Nice video Rob, and the Liddle looks a nice spate river. I agree that leaky waders are an absolute pain. Nowadays I just get a pair of cheap Scierras in the winter sales and feel lucky if I get a whole season out of them. Good tip, get some Sealskinz waterproof socks, at least they will keep your feet dry when worn inside leaky waders😂.
Thanks, I was wearing sealskinz too! They work upto a point but when the water is coming in that much it gets wicked down inside the socks. I've given up on breathables and am awaiting delivery of a pair of Vass waders.
Thanks for uploading this video. I really enjoyed it. I entirely agree with your philosophy regarding killing the odd fish or two and have been doing that for years. Sea trout in particular where I live in the Northern Isles are an endangered species so catch and release is necessary. A pound and a half to two pound fresh caught sea trout is an ideal size for my wife and I. Great to see you prepare, cook and eat your fish. Thanks again.
Excellent video and most enjoyable Rob. Totally agree with you taking the odd Sea Trout from a river that still seems to have a good run of fish. Your right a nice fresh Sea Trout on the table is hard to beat. Great cooking as usual 😋 Cheers 👍
Beautiful Seatrout, even the small ones were things of wonder. By the way, you desperately need some new Arthur Negus chest throttlers. Lovely to share your adventures, thank you for making it possible.
@ It’s an old chestnut from when my friends and I used to fish Cow Green Reservoir for wild brown trout. They always seemed to be rising just out of reach of our thigh waders. One wag suggested that what we needed was Arthur Negus Chest Throttlers, a reference to how he used to wear his trousers way above his belly leaving little chest on view. For the next 30 years chest waders became Arthur Negus Chest Throttlers.
Well done , it was nice watching you fish , and the sound of the river was very therapeutic. Made me drool watching you cook and eat that lovely Sea Trout 👏👏
Lovely video Rob, thanks for sharing... Liddle looks an absolute beauty of a river, very envious of you living so close... Good to see you enjoying the fruits of your labour as well... Quick question, the app you use for river levels? Which one do you use? Looks excellent Tight lines for '25!!
Many thanks, it's just called the River App, available from Google play or apple store. It's very good as you can save all your favourite gauges on 1 screen.
Looks like you have rebuilt those waders now you know what to look for when you buy a new pair . Turn them inside out and see if all the seams are taped and sealed. Your dinner looked great . It’s ok to take a fish now and then and still work towards conserving them.
@abakerslife yup. Apparently, you take it off the boil for 5 mins before soaking the grounds. No charge for the tip😉 I'm also a uneducated boiling coffee man🤣
Sea trout are now increasingly rare these days, so every one killed is one less to breed, multiply and preserve the species. No one fishes for food anymore, its not exactly economic with the cost of gear, permits etc. Fish barbless, handle properly, put them back and buy a rainbow trout from the fishmonger if you really want a fish to eat before there's none left.
I'm afraid I respectfully disagree but welcome your feedback. I release 99.5% of the fish I catch and stand by the justification of my actions as outlined at the end of the video. I don't want to eat a farmed fish, fed on pellets made from wild fish, to me they taste horrible.
Spot on attitude to catch and release and enjoying the odd fish taken selectively. The abuse some are getting online for taking a salmon or bass for the table is getting ridiculous.
Great video sir there's no harm in taking the odd fish especially if there's a decent run of fish sea trout is the best eating fish for me better than salmon to much politics about it now it's the angler's that's keeping rivers alive with the money they spend to fish and the clubs that run the waters if cormerants and otters and the rest of the predators can munch through stocks of fish people shouldn't be moaning about an angler taking one or two fish a season
I agree with that. It's not only offensive to animal rights, it's unmanly for a grown man to treat fish as toys for their amusement or so they can brag and boast about what they caught, even if it suits PR, sales and marketing. I was raised to fish for food. Catch and release shouldn't be treated as normal, it's for conservation reasons.
Bizarre double standard you go by,James.Humanity now outnumbers its prey no matter where on earth they are.I fish to marvel at my quarry’s valor, cunning and beauty. I need not kill any at all.
I understand what you're saying, but I don't think anybody, especially catch and release anglers like myself, treats fish like toys for entertainment. Pretty much all catch and release anglers fish for the beauty of the fish and heavily use fish safety regulations, and because of this, the fish lives to see another day, the anglers happy, and no harm was done
I’m headed to your neck of the woods in a few months. So glad I found this channel !!!!!
Plenty of great fishing in my locality, we are actually spoiled for rivers.
Another fine video. I think I need to build an outdoor oven!

Cheers 👍
Many thanks, if goosanders and cormorants eat a dozen fish a day who could ever begrudge an angler eating one or two per season.
It's a great video. Congrats to the nice fish 👍👊
Thanks 👍
Another great video mate 👍
Thank you kindly

Thanks, I can't work out the reference to Arthur Negus but I do have a pair of Vass non breathables on the way.

Thank you kindly, I do quite like poached fish but roasted would be my first choice.
Truffle mayo fancy nicely done chef

The repairs didn't last 5 minutes 😅
I've finally bitten the bullet and bought a pvc pair. I've given up on breathables!
Nice video prefect bite to eat well done
Thank you kindly
Cracking video. Like the little cabinet you've got to keep spare flies in your van. Can you buy those? Keep the videos coming 👍
Thanks, I bought the internal drawers from eBay (sold as jewellery drawers I think) and built around them.
@abakerslife Great job. Thank you 👍
Truffle mayo - I'm gonna check that out!
Highly recommended, from Aldi of all places.
Great casting - what line are you using? Thank you for the video! Love it
Thanks, it was a Rio outbound scandi line
Nicely said. Welsh lads have been coming up to Durham and river Wear as they consider it the best sewin river in the UK.
Thanks, I love the Wear but it wasn't a great year for seatrout by all accounts, more salmon than sewin this time.
Fishing was good, food was good ..all was good:)
It's the simple pleasures in life that make it worthwhile.
Loved the video as always pal. Question, what net is that you’re using?
Cheers, it's a Sharpes Belmont. It's a good size but I think the handle could be sturdier.
@ Aye, it looks like the perfect size for the fishing i do! Mainly Grilse runs with the odd larger fish.
Great video. What app are you using for river levels. Look really good
Thanks, it's just called the River App. It's for kayakers but it's very good.
Thank you!
I love watching spey casting. I'll have to invest in a spey rod. Are you using a sink tip or sinking line?
It would have been a floating line with a 10' slow sink polyleader
Man fantastic meal you are a good cook did you make that oven yourself?
Thanks, no it's actually a lightweight fibreglass oven that I used to have installed in a trailer.
nice to see fish coming off the Liddle, usually overshadowed by its big bruv the border esk, good vid as usual, but... boiling water in a coffee pot?
Thanks, apparently it fished well this summer.
Am I supposed to put it in cold?
@abakerslife yup. Apparently, you take it off the boil for 5 mins before soaking the grounds. No charge for the tip😉 I'm also a uneducated boiling coffee man🤣
Great video Rob, may I ask what rod you’re using?
Thanks, it was a Hardy Ultralite nsx 13'6" #8/9

Ever hear of catch and release ?
Yes and I practice it 99.9% of the time. Try watching the dozens of other videos on my channel where I release fish after fish after fish.
Spot on attitude to catch and release and enjoying the odd fish taken selectively. The abuse some are getting online for taking a salmon or bass for the table is getting ridiculous.
Righteousness is not a virtue I celebrate. If we all tread lightly on the earth we'll be alright.

Many thanks and well put.
Catch n taste for research 😋
Just had to make sure it was as good as I remember
Fishing is a blood sport and taking the odd fish is absolutely acceptable in my opinion. I fish and hunt and make no apology for it.
It's how we have lived for most of our time on this planet.
Breathable waders are the biggest con in fishing imo.
I second that. PVC from now on
