    I've been playing bass for just around twenty-five years....with some periods of down time.... And for most of the time I've been playing I've made most of my lines and grooves based off of the three fret spacing.... Never really knowing what any of that meant.... But I've been pretty good at playing by ear through all this time.... I've been watching and practicing your Pentatonic videos for about the last 4 days.... And I've got to tell you that my playing skill has almost doubled just with those few videos....I can't wait to catch up on the rest of your material.....that k your for blessing us

    "You know what that is"...the FUNKIEST note in the world! I yelled it before you said it, thank you sir. Intervallic exercises are paramount to unlocking the fretboard and becoming familiar with sounds and utilizing modes to the fullest, instead of just hearing the same scale from a different starting point, etc. They expedite the ability to improvise, it's like unlocking a power in a video game, it's everything...i cant tell you how much I appreciate your lessons and your attitude. God Bless!

    Wow, this is really interesting. 👍
    I find thinking about Bass notes to be simple enough that I don’t rely on shapes like I would on guitar.
    But THIS is really really interesting. And it’s definitely a SHAPE that we can think about it in.
    Fascinating, unexpected, and really cool sounding.
    What a brilliant find! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

  • @tasteapiana
    @tasteapiana 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Use that as a passing tone run during a III7 to ii* modulation and, with just enough chorus pedal intervention, you got Jaco at those moments he would close his eyes and sink down into better than heroin land. Remember, in Canada, they call it oatside. Therefore, we can call it anything we want. What's it a boat? or What's it, a boat? I still don't know wuhthafc they're on, but it's something and it obviously works for them. Rock on.

  • @franksmith4383
    @franksmith4383 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for the info Rich! It feels like a pentatonic based on the phrygian mode, in this case "A" phrygian. But I haven't sorted out why it works. I guess since the relative major is Bb, you can play a variation of the phrygian off that "A", and get those color tones, instead of the very inside sounding Locrian (relating it back to Bb)
