More fun with Pentatonics. Let's go!
beautiful a new flavor to our playing
Damn ! there is more and more to this our pentatonic scale. I thought I have seen it all and then here you are with another colour.
dear Mr. Rich, that all makes sense....very hip, thanks!!
Thank you. And my condolences for your hard drive.
Another great lesson from my favorite you tube educator (and i follow more than a couple). You really should consider compiling your stuff in a method book. I believe your approach is super valuable and unique.
Thank you so much. I've been thinking a lot about a method book. I appreciate the encouraging words. It would be great if I could make this happen.
@@richbrownbass In the meantime I've started compiling my favorite lessons into a doc with links to the vids. I love the triads, sequences, arpeggio and pentatonic stuff so much that I want to make different bits part of my warm-up/early practice routine before I start working on tunes, transcribing or reading. The rhythm stuff is special and gets it's own dedicated time.
You are an incredible educator!!!
A great way to start the day...fresh coffeee and a new lesson!I will dive into it.Thanks for the inspiration!!!Great lesson!LG Niko
I love this. So simple, so damn funky. Thank you
Sir i love how you explain the lessons 🎸🎸💯💯😁😁
This is simply the best explanation of Pentatonics I've ever seen. Thank you...SUBBED
That's so great to hear! Thanks very much, Michael.
Kool. Love the way you look at this.....
Great lesson.
Mahalo again for the great lesson. I love how you come up with these tasty patterns.
Mate u explained that on my brain level. You are unique brother. Thankyou soo much ❤
Thanks for you channel my friend great lessons , great explanations , i am learning quite a lot ;)
I've not tuned in for a while , Rich. Thanks for your teaching us in such a laid back manner. I have to get playing again ! Hope all is well in Toronto, Ont
Thanks very much, Liam. All is well here. I hope all is beautiful where you are.
Another great one! Thx RB!
Great lesson Rich!
This hit different! Off to the shed for some work.
I’ve only learned bass from listening to records my whole life. These lessons are opening doors . Great stuff
I learned the same way until I was in my early 20s. Digging deeper opened up a whole new world, and had me levelling up exponentially! Thanks for the kind words.
I appreciate your teaching. You're one of the most complex and great sounding bassists, yet you teach such amazing "simple" things that sound amazing. An interesting dichotomy. You are one of the best bassists in the USA yet you return to the basics and spread the love. Excellent. ❤️
I know where your theme song is! It's playing around and around in my head. Loved this lesson and will be trying it out in a song very soon.
Very cool, Rich.
Hey Rich, great to see you again. Thanks for another excellent lesson, I really enjoyed this one. Peace and love.
Thank you, as always, Philip. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Mind blowiing sir now i realize the worth of my jazz fender Vstring , verry great
That’s a great way to look at pent. Awesome as usual.
Thanks so much, my man.
Thanks, Good Stuff!
thanks for this exercise & approach, Rich! It’s really helpful and a nice alternative to scalar approach exercises for pentatonics - thanks again 🙏
My pleasure, Larry. Thank you for watching. (And thank you VERY much for joining the channel.)

Cheers
I am really glad I found your channel. I am working hard on your exercises. And I really appreciate your time and expertise. Thank you
Thank you for watching, Lee. I'm really glad you found the channel, too. lol
Love this approach to Scale Tone Patterns! Super useful :D You always sound so amazing, I’d love to hear what you’ve got running into(amp/D.I., Pedals) Barring how obviously sultry that F Bass is out the gate ;) Hope you’ve been feeling better 🎵
supercool i just discovered this just know and improvise with it , whats interesting i combine them with pentatonic inversions , sounds cool too. thanks for the lesson i appreciate
Thanks Rich.
Thank you for sharing this exercise. Very nice.
Yet another great video. I would be curious to see lessons "specifically" for 5 string basses. I play your exercises by taking the D on my B string as the starting point (when it implies the G minor pentatonic scale), but I was wondering if you have any "specific" exercises. Thank you!
Excellent lesson! I've been looking for ways to make fills and such sound less "scaley" or just hitting similar licks a lot. This is gonna give me a ton to work on. Thanks!!
You've got some great lessons on sequences which I really appreciate. Amazing stuff.
Wow great lesson. I have been playing bass for 3.5 years now and this is just what I needed to change up my practice.
Once again another very good/useful technique building lesson..Bassist to Bassist great teaching..🎵
Always appreciated, brother Terrence. Thank you.
Nice one Rich. I just had to take some time off and I really needed something new and interesting to get the groove flowing again so mission accomplished. I can always count on you my friend.
That means a lot. Thank you, David.
Great lesson as always. Thanks again Rich.
Thanks!
Wow! This means more than you know. Thank you so much!
Great stuff Rich! 😎
Very useful tools. I really ❤️ your Jazz bass and the tone you’re getting.
🥳👍👨🏻
Awesome! Thank you! Having fun practicing with you!
Hey Rich, I recon I have learned more from you in a couple of months, than what I learned in the last 50 years!
1st view 1 St like 1st comment awsome lesson 🤟❤️
Always learning something really hip and useful in your videos ✌🏾❤️
Interesting concept Rich. Never saw it played in that way. Very cool 👍🏻😁🎸
I've grown more musically in the last few months practicing different exercises I've picked up watching your videos Rich Brown than any other time in my life... Hand's down! Allowing me to navigate the fret board more effortlessly mostly by muscle memory! Mission accomplished!! You are highly recommended to all my fellow bass player friends! Thanks again & keep it groovin man! 💯🎸 ~JB~
Thank you so much.
I've been playing around with these pairs with the addition of the flatted 3rd in the case of major as discussed in your other pent lesson. Sounds super cool.
Thanks man. I'm stuck thinking about modes and arpeggios.... This will help.
This is just the clearest and great lesson on pentatonic. By the I wrote you hundred of times (even on Facebook) how can I have private lessons with you?
Thanks for the lesson! sounds really good.
this aschalew from ethiopia . u r great teacher. love u
Thank you so much, Aschalew. 🙏🏾
Also, very very cool exercise ❤️🎵
Very cool! Thanks man!
Happy Easter Mr Brown!
Thanks, Billy. Happy Easter, brother.
Great exercise
Great lesson, Rich. Good vibes to your poor hard drive! 🤕
Thank you, my brother. Hope you and yours are all doing very well.
I absolutely love pentatonics now. Try the Balinese pelog scale. It's like a pentatonic phrygian. Very very jazzy. I used it on a trance jazz solo one time. Oh man! Sounds like when Kenny G went a little ethnic in his music. Very nice as usual rich!
I'll check that out. Thanks for watching.
Thanks again for more fantastic content. Hopefully that hard drive was dedicated to only a theme song.... :(
I wish. 😞 Thanks very much for watching.
Yes, Weather Report Jaco!
I picked up this exercise during the pandemic from an Aguilar bassist, can’t remember his name. It is a super exercise that can put your left hand to work!
I have been practicing both descending and accessing on my own. But for some weird Reason never occurred to me to mix them in between patterns. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
outstanding, thank you! hope you recover that smooth intro
I hope so, too! Thanks, man.
Rich Brown, my head just got blown the f*%k off!
LOL! Thanks, Chris!
Do you do private lessons? I am in Oakville and would be very interested.
Hey Rich how about mixing major and minor pairs? Huh?
🙂
You can download and use audio hijack to record your song from a previous video and then you can have the mp3!
Thanks for the tip, it's really hard to hear you..
RIP Brownstone Theme 🙏🎵
😩
I understand the system of the idea but I can't really figure out how you place the fingers not even slowing the video down
Time for a new theme then! ;)
Can you recover that song by turning one of your TH-cam videos into an MP4?
I could, but I wouldn't be able to make those clean cross-fades at the end of the theme.
RIP hard drive
I did fine with the minor but found the major more challenging.
The shape of the major can pose some challenges for these exercises. But practice is all about familiarizing yourself with new ideas. You'll get this for sure.
