Tiger Sanitation: Brand New Freightliner Econic Heil Python Garbage Truck

- Never thought I’d see the day that Tiger would be buying Heil. After only purchasing McNeilus for basically their entire existence, Tiger decided to purchase a Heil Python, since the city of San Antonio primarily buys those. Ever since their first batch of Econics came in, they have really taken a liking to this chassis and it looks like that is what they will be buying primarily. I was driving around Tiger’s massive Tuesday route a couple weeks ago just to take a shot and see if this truck would be out. Surprisingly, I found it on its very first day on route! Since it was the driver’s first day using this truck, they sent him with a helper to move some of the cans so it would be easier to grab them. This driver used to be in a ZR and he was getting used to the mechanics of the Python arm, the biggest one being that it needs more clearance to grab carts. It will be very interesting to see what Tiger decides to purchase in the future. While I have mixed feelings on the looks of the Econic cab, the paint job on this truck looks super cool. What a combo. It’s funny to see this European cab with a Python crawling the streets of suburban Texas like a fish out of water. The mismatch between Heil’s tri-grips and Rehrig EGs is on full display here too. Sooner or later I would think they’ll return to their ZRs, but good on them for trying something new.
Definitely is getting interesting seeing these pop up more and more here. This route was primarily Rehrig EGs so it was interesting seeing the grippers handle those. I expect them to return to ZRs too, especially since they are more efficient for their routes.

Yet another Econic! First time I've seen one paired with a Heil/Python body to my knowledge, looks good in my opinion. Passenger side/second driver side sure does look like a bus entrance with those folding doors lol. Always nice to see a brand new truck too, I'm impressed with Tiger's unique fleet recently! Awesome video and great find!
To my knowledge this is the first video of an Econic Python to be posted. Definitely not a bad looking truck but still has that bus ascetic haha. Definitely will be interesting to see what Tiger decides to get next, glad you enjoyed!

Those hydraulic hoses didn't last very long I bet with the clean out door down. Broke a hose or 2 like that before.

Nice video, sure is one interesting combination! I’d imagine this is one of the hardest ASLs to learn so I feel for the driver lol these Econics sure are growing on me though, I really like how nice this one looks in Tiger’s colors. Wonder if they’ll stick with this combo or branch out even further. Great catch!

Not quite sure but it’s a normal size fuel tank
