got into the series about nine months ago, with xc2. now after having played the rest of the games (including x) and currently going through ng+, the nostalgia hits hard. it hasn't even been that long, but these games are something special.
ShadowSkyX By far, it's incredible. Easily my favourite town theme in the game, maybe of all time. I absolutely adore it. I don't even know why! There's just something about it, something so calm and peaceful that I have to always have Torigoth at night, never day, even though the day theme is also really good.
ShadowSkyX Mine would have to be the Leftherian Archipelago. That is just pure beauty (especially with earbuds). This theme is lovely too. What I said about XC1's area themes still rings true here: night themes are generally better than day themes (in my opinion).

I recently restarted the game (for obvious reasons at this time lol) and as i was enjoying the story and reached torigoth... i decided to slowly walk around at night, as i did for hours back in the day. So, i stumbled upon some npc's (the ones u can't talk to tho) who were playing their instruments at a corner next to the stairs, with a few other gormotti listening and cheering. And for me it was nothing but stunning. I've been at this place so often, so long... but i never met these gormotti making music. Which was actually there... a few meters around them u hear the little guitar piece. Such details... this is passion. This... is art.
This single song got me through some rough times. I would just throw this song on and grind through the day doing what I had to do to get by. Now I’m in another really rough situation- listening to this song always helps.

This music and the garfront village are the one that stood out the best for me. Xenoblade 2, i dont really get why many people disliked this game. Its one of the best games ive played along with torna and on the same level as Trails of Coldsteel 3, Persona series, Suikoden and Finalfantasy 9. I wont forget this game.
Especially towards the second half, it really pulls at your heart strings and I genuinely felt emotional when playing through the game. I genuinely loved these characters and wanted more
It's absolutely one of the best Japanese games in recent years, and I've got around 250 hours into it, as I always return to the game from time to time. Only truly bad thing I have to say about the game, is at the end how many cutscenes there are, which was a bit annoying. Also that one zone is locked away even after you finish the game. But other than that, what an amazing experience to play through.
I mean, I can't speak for everyone and I guess we all have our preferences, but I can explain why I personally really didn't like the game and felt massively disappointed by it if you're really interested in knowing some of the reasons people might have for disliking it...
Xenoblade 2 in particular really thoroughly wormed its way into my heart and is really special to me. Just, I love the cast so much, all the amazing music and just it's nice to just exist in it and theres so much to do. That said there genuinely is a lot flaws holding it back... Like just how many menial tasks and grinding filling out the average affinity chart consists of, having to get many rare blades through a gacha, waiting real time with the game on for the merc missions, having to reearange your party whenever you need to do a field skill check, grinding for drops for weapons chips or aux crystals, playing tiger tiger 500 times over to get poppi maxed out... Like it's a game I love but it's also something i do have to add asterisks onto when recommending cause theres a lot of flaws most of which could be fairly easily fixed but like it's hard to blame someone too much for not liking it for some of the gameplay decisions. (tho is they dislike for any other reasons their opinion is invalid)
The crazy part for me is that it feels like the Gormotti in Torigoth are playing this and not a part of environmental soundtrack. The soft strings being played by young up and coming musicians, the children gather around to listen by the fire, the percussion in the background sending waves through everyone's chest, it really gives an aura of wholesomeness and peace in a hostile world.
I'm taking this as a personal headcanon due to the start of a certain someone's Hero Quest actually has her humming the Torigoth theme (at least in the localization, I think a different song is used for the Japanese version) AND due to Future Redeemed canonizing some songs already lmao

Xenoblade 3 Spoilers: Hearing Nia hum the beginning of this theme when recruiting her as a hero was something. I also like to think it confirms all the area themes exist within the xenbolade universe(s).
Keep finding myself coming back here. As flawed as this game is, it's one of my favorites and it's very important to me. Looking back at the time I initially spent with it, I think I subconsciously used it to cope with a pretty bad break-up. Wish I could experience it for the first time again. Was super magical and enthralling, beat it over the course of spring-break.

Been on a binge of relistening to the whole OST and this one always gives me the most Nostalgia. It oozes the feeling of warmth and comfort so damn good. It's like a welcome back to the game and all my memories of it keep lingering in my mind. I truly love this game man lol

I first heard this theme when I exited Tora's house after you were being chased. Having this play when you had that brief moment of tranquility standing on the bridges and looking at the stars and pyra flickering fire out of her hand and wearing the hoodie was one of the best atmospheric moments in the entire game for me.

A bizarre game from out of time. Its flaws really make it a suckerpunch of nostalgia for an era of gaming where ambitious titles were hindered by tech limitations. Its heartfelt moments can feel so contrived and lost in translation, but in another moment it will feel so genuinely human because of those imperfections. Its like the game borders on self-satire but when it works, damn it really works.
Listening to this automatically brings me back too the upper deck balcony area with the guy watering the plants and you have a straight view at the glowing World Tree at a distance. Magical. Purely magical. I would live in this game 100% if i could.

When this started playing, I had to do a doubletake. I could swear I heard it before. So I used the "What's this song?" feature of Google Voice Assistant and whistled the tune and it thought the theme song of _The Outer Wilds_ was playing.
If I were to rate the sounds 1: Music 2: Cutscene Sound effects 3: Revive sounds 4: Switching blades 5: Voice acting 6: Combat. Music is even better than freaking S K Y R I M music, and that's saying a lot.
