It took me a while to really appreciate Counterattack… and I guess because the weight of the song didn’t make sense until I understood everything there was to know about Mythra through Torna. Engage the Enemy… my favorite use of this one was when it was used when Shulk was talking to Melia during the engagement of the Telethia. I had recently lost someone dear to me and this song with Shulk’s words to support Melia’s feelings of loss really hit home. It’s such a powerful track… turning emotions into music. The Weight of Life… just when you thought the sense of adversity couldn’t hit harder and the composers drop this. When they used it for promo ads to the game, I thought this was pretty good. Then I hear it in game and it’s just “oh shit,” just holding back tears. And now when I listen to it, I’m just holding back tears. The XC3 soundtrack sometimes just gives off this sad vibe of limited time. It’s like being fully aware that this could be the last beautiful sunset or starry night you or someone closer to you will ever have… and you’re just stuck in that moment as the song plays. Finally, when the flute comes in… you know this song is just sending itself and it’s predecessors off. This is the most beautiful of epilogues. I’m still in disbelief a song could make me feel this way.
Weight of Life can summon water through the eyes of a human. Magic is too short of a word describe its very power and draw on the human soul. I decided to not listen to it until I witnessed the scenes it was included in. Dear me, I was not ready to wipe my eyes when Noah and Mio were wrapping things up. Nor was I ready for the team to be entirely in sync in-tune to the melody. The song could perform on its own, but it was a part of the gang. Giving that spiritual wavelength spoken languages fail to emanate. Goodness me, I'll say, I said enough. May Xenoblade be THE game other sequels and future franchises aspire to be.
Weight of Life is really a masterpiece and it really hits home on the feeling that "life's supposed to be so much more than this endless war". And the tragedy of how everyone is robbed of just that.
Ugh, Xenoblade is just too good to handle. Read any collection of the comments and listen to the music, and it’s only too apparent how much work has gone into this masterpiece of a series. Not even mentioning the characters and gameplay.
"I'll kill you!", "I just couldn't help myself, I ate 'em all up!", "Looks like he's had his wings clipped". Engage the Enemy supports so many amazing moments, the scenes sync up so well with the music. The other songs are amazing but Engage the Enemy will always be the GOAT.
They are all the goat. Xenoblade 2 and 3 have lots of other songs to use in these type of scenes but xenoblade 1 relies a lot more on engage the enemy but I understand why they would do that
I like the song, but hearing the other 2 themes in there made me wait for the climax of one of them, and when it didn't come, I started comparing 3s theme with 1 and 2 as I listened, and it definitely brought down the awesomeness of the song for me. I think it was because I developed an expectation in my mind after hearing the other themes in there.
It should play during Issurd fight and during Z's final phase, the song would start when Melia and Nia leave their "Gundam" and join the fight, then Weight of Life would be the battle theme, It would stop in the piano part and then loop, untill you get Z's healthbar to 0, then we would switch to the cutscene where we would have the JRPG final speech to the villain with the last part playing as Z vanishies My main problem with Z's defeat was how his final cutscene looked underwhelming and this would certainly fix it for me... Honestly, i'm thinking of editing it like this and posting on TH-cam (the problem is that i can't record on my Switch so i would need to take someone else's gameplay)
Engage the enemy is when you stand up to resist a greater force Counterattack is when you get awaken, you know what you need to fight for. The weight of life is when you know you have to do it now or never.
Counterattack is the kind of jam you pick yourself back up from having a broken life up until now. Where you begin to look forward and appreciate everything around you, slowly understanding that you had bumpy roads but at last, you are ALLOWED TO SCREAM FORGIVENESS TOWARDS YOURSELF! And fly at the side that have made great change without realizing that we are all capable of doing just that for one another!
@@carlos-zy7vx no, it's in Xenoblade 2. It plays in a few cutscenes. The first one I can think of is right before the first fight with Malos in Chapter 1, after you awaken Pyra.

I can still hear the voices in the cutscenes when I listen to counterattack but I can't say the same for the other two, even though they're all great. 2 just holds a special place for me.
Same here. I think I can recite some of those lines for each of the songs that plays. Engage the Enemy: "I'LL KILL YOOOOUUUUU!!!!" Counterattack: "You're pretty sharp, for someone that's just woken up." "You awoke at last, Mythra!" "Pyra! Mythra!" "Apologies, Rex. Worry not, all is well. I am lost no longer." I sometimes wonder if Counterattack or Drifting Soul was supposed to be the "Engage the Enemy" for Xenoblade 2 as both songs occur during key moments of the game; but The Weight of Life easily stands alone for peak Xeno 3 music!
I dunno what it is for me. But the old engage the enemy is way better. Something about the voice doesn't sit well. There's also a part best the end that has symbols right before the song kicks back up. It's not there in the new version and I loved it
Can we appreciate the fact that 3 songs are absolute bangers and are really difficult to rank. By the way, it is such a shame that wheight of life was so unused ...
"A-AAAARGH TOO MUCH THE POWER OF MONADO IS TO MUCH !!'' "YOU WANTED IT SO NO YOU CAN HAVE IT ! MUMKHAR !" "I'M BETTER THAN ALL OF YOU, YOU'RE THE ONE I'LL FINISHED '" "DIEEEEEEEEEE" "STOOOOOP!"
In my opinion Weight of Life is the weakest one because of how underused it is in the game and i think that It deserved more epic moments (personally If i listened to You Will Know Our Names Finale without knowing anything about XC3 and the song's name, i would think that It was this game's Engage The Enemy honestly), still a banger song Now Engage The Enemy it's so epic that made Fog King look like a incredible villain on FC lol, also the DE version's Opera singer makes me always have gosebumps (i know it is written wrong)
Still prefer the old version of Engage the enemy. Why? Cause the vocals don't overpower as much. It sets the mood more bleaker... The muted vocals are good, but especially when the higher notes are hit they overpower the instruments and take away from the drama abit. That's just a personal preference though. See it as Sadness and Anger. The instruments the current emotions going in and out of the charaters and the singing their sadness. The muted vocals eventually harmonize with the music... but not overpower it, cause anger and attacking is what matters, grief is there but will come later.
Personally I think the vocals getting a boost makes it more emotional weight and UPS the drama. Idk how you don't get that reponse from operatic vocals over rock guitar.
I personally find the voice "excessive" in the new one. There is the part where the voice holds on for too long and singing too strongly. It also covers the poliphonic effect of the voices together in the previous part, and i much prefer those in the old version
I find that I like most of the original XenoB1 music more because a lot of the instruments get overshadowed in the definitive edition in a way that is detrimental to the tone sometimes. Still good music, but my preferences lie with the original.
I was NEVER ready for any moment Engage the Enemy played. Every cutscene that had it synced perfectly with the climax of the theme.
It’s literally the perfect song. Every cutscene is timed so well. It’s amazing how they make the cutscenes mean so much in the same amount of tine

I sometimes wonder if Counterattack or Drifting Soul was supposed to be the "Engage the Enemy" for Xenoblade 2 as both songs occur during key moments of the game; but The Weight of Life easily stands alone for peak Xeno 3 music!
Bro I need to see the gang as Ouroboros again in some epic scene with Weight of Life playing frr
I dunno what it is for me. But the old engage the enemy is way better. Something about the voice doesn't sit well. There's also a part best the end that has symbols right before the song kicks back up. It's not there in the new version and I loved it

Is that Dunban Over There?
Yes
Can we appreciate the fact that 3 songs are absolute bangers and are really difficult to rank. By the way, it is such a shame that wheight of life was so unused ...

THESE GAMES
For me Engage the Enemy and Weight of Life are tied for first place. I like Counterattack, but the others are just too good.
In my opinion
Weight of Life is the weakest one because of how underused it is in the game and i think that It deserved more epic moments (personally If i listened to You Will Know Our Names Finale without knowing anything about XC3 and the song's name, i would think that It was this game's Engage The Enemy honestly), still a banger song
Now Engage The Enemy it's so epic that made Fog King look like a incredible villain on FC lol, also the DE version's Opera singer makes me always have gosebumps (i know it is written wrong)
I like the original’s voices
