H&K VP9SK review: One of the best carry pistol's out of the box

  • My review and experience with one of the best pistols I've owned period and one of the best pistols I've seen come out of the box. No need to buy an aftermarket trigger, aftermarket night sights, aftermarket grips or really anything but some ammo and maybe some extra magazines and maybe a weapon light.
    After 3,000+ rounds of +P+, +P, 9mm nato cartridges, Underwood and even some Buffalo Bore this pistol barely looks like it's been used. It's crazy how well the finish has held up and how well that barrel can take the abuse.
    The H&K VP9SK LE is an absolute joy to shoot. It will make you want to shoot it more and more and ergonomically it's the most ergonomic pistol I've ever felt. Just overall it's a very well designed pistol and I've made modifications to almost every gun I own... except this one and my other VP9s and P30 pistols.
    Even Glock and Sig Sauer don't offer the quality and features that the H&K VP9SK LE can offer but it is really depending on your preference. But one of my favorite carry pistols is the H&K VP9SK LE.

    I own many Glocks, Colts, Springfield's. I have to say the HK VP9sk is the most comfortable gun I've ever shot. It feels like it was custom made for my hand. I liked it so much I bought a second in another color.

    The VP 9 SK is a fantastic gun. I recently purchased it and couldn’t be happier. If you do not like the European style paddle release for the magazine, you can purchase the VP 9 SK B variant which gives you the traditional button release. That is the one I purchased. It is extremely well-built and Has spot on accuracy. You won’t be disappointed.

    I just traded off one of my VP9 full size models for a nice used VP9SK, I have been looking for a nice used one for a while and finally found someone who had one and was willing to trade for my VP9. Came with 4 mags and night sights and I couldn't be happier. This is going to be my every day carry and I can still use my holster from my full size VP9.

    Just bought one this year. Came with a Damascus cerakoted slide, holoson SCS, and 4 total mags. Not to mention the extra 4 from magapaloza. I am absolutely and completely in love. Best 9mm I’ve shot in my opinion. Don’t even touch my other edc.

      Great choice and a sweet setup. Even 2+ years later and I still believe the VP9SK is one of the best carry pistols out of the box. They even added features too.
      The only thing I would add would be a light and a nice holster. A full size VP9 is a great addition too.

    I have owned many different semi auto firearms and used to be a big Glock fanboy. But when I shot the SK, I ended up trading off my G19X which is also a good weapon but can’t be compared to the H&K. I will NEVER trade or sell my SK. The trigger is the best I have ever used and it is the most accurate I have ever shot. And when you pick it up and take down the weapon, the craftsmanship is really evident. Anyone who gets one of these will need no other handgun unless he is hunting out West and needs a sidearm such as a .44 magnum or .454 Casull for bears.

      I mentioned the European style magazine release and how I prefer that mag release as opposed to the button press and it's bc of this gun that I've come to really like the paddle style now. I did gloss over the charging ears however. I could've probably made a 60 min long video on this firearm with more B roll and range footage too.

      Honestly, I have not been disappointed with Olight. I have some that are still working after 6 years of sitting in hot cars in Florida all summer or in winters in Indiana.
      Holsters are a product that the more you spend, the less you'll see on your return. While I stick in the middle with Werkz holsters as they last, hold retention for more years, my WeThePeople holsters have worked great for my Olight weapon light pistols. Another budget brand I've had great experiences with is FDO Industries which are sold on Amazon. I use both WTP and FDO holsters quite a bit still even though I have more expensive Tier1 and Werkz holsters. Tulster is another brand I like but is in the same price range as Werkz.

    Here's a problem with this gun, you MUST change your strong hand grip to drop the empty mag to replace it. You would also be faster to darken the dots on the rear sights. A quality gun but not built for speed. Thanks.

    • @2amichaelj
      @2amichaelj  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I can't really think of a sub compact gun that's built for speed. You could debate if this is really a sub compact gun too as it's almost the same size as a G19. Training does go a long way however. While I'm not as fast as say my modded G19 but then again, I've also put $750 of extra parts in that pistol too. Being able to have a RMRcc red dot would be ideal on the H&K VP9SK LE.
      The paddle magazine release I don't have to break my strong hand grip to utilize, which is why I prefer this style. Most button presses I do. I guess it's depending on the size of the user.
      You bring up fair points but I would ask, what gun out of the box is built for speed of the same size and price point? Maybe a Canik TP9SF?

      I do carry it but I have to be aware of my clothing choice more than my other carry options. The Glock 19 gen 5 is the exact same width (to the tenth of an inch, 1.34") as the H&K VP9SK but I can conceal my Glock 19 easier so go figure.

      @@2amichaelj I'm sitting here trying to decide if I want to switch from a G19 to this. Changing platforms doesn't come cheap, mags holsters, sights,etc.. and I'm pretty comfortably vested in my 19 with all that already. Not to mention can buy 2 Glock mags for the price of 1 HK mag. The more I think about it, the more I think not. Probably a great option with plenty of features, I'm sure, but not enough to justify changing up edc platform this late in the game....
      did I just sound like a Glock fanboy? Damn...

    • @2amichaelj
      @2amichaelj  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@1970banjoman if I had the extra money and I could find this H&K VP9SK LE for the $400 like I did, I would buy one and keep the Glock. I don't really like selling guns anymore but you're right it's an investment.
      How much do you really need however? I have to ask myself that a lot. Really all I need for this H&K is a decent holster. The sights and trigger are great... the LE version comes with 3 magazines and I've actually seen prices on the 13 and 15 round H&K branded magazines for $35 recently if you really want some more. I'm not trying to talk you into purchasing this firearm but I hardly need a reason to buy a gun these days as long as I can afford it.
      I'm the type who likes to be proficient in many different weapons and manual of arms so I rotate my carry options between 4 guns in the summer and 6 guns in the winter. My main carry is a Glock 19 gen 5 however. The H&K VP9SK LE is the only gun I haven't "upgraded" because I'm content on how it is. The Glock 19 gen 5 I've invested over $750 on top of the price of the gun.
      If you haven't shot one, I would at least try to find a range that you can shoot it, feel it, experience it, before you make a purchase but I can tell you 1. Guns don't lose a lot of resale value, especially if you buy used. My used guns I've purchased are worth just as much if not more than what I purchased them for. 2. Having options isn't a bad thing and sometimes I've purchased a part for a pistol, installed it and had issues running it. So I'm glad I had another gun to carry until I could get it to cycle reliably (installed and loctited a comp on my Glock 19 gen 5. Didn't cycle 115 grain range ammo.) 3. That Glock 19 with all those accessories you won't recoup the costs for and the holster, mags, even trigger aren't worth the resale value to gun stores. That's why I don't trade in or sell my guns unless I know I know someone interested in the package for a fair price.
      Idk it's a hard one brother. I will tell you, if you search you local pawn shops and gun stores for used H&K VP9SK LEs, you can find them pretty reasonable for $500 or less, even with all the extras you're looking for. I'd at least look to see what's available. A lot of times I'm just browsing and I find a steal of gun just sitting there, shining in the case at an unbelievable price and I tell myself "God, you must want me to buy this".
