That video was fabulous! The beautiful scenery, the editing, the captioning and the music were all just perfect. I can not travel so this was special for me seeing the countryside, the cities and visiting the bookstores. I truly felt like you were taking us along. Thanks for the hard work I know it took putting this video together. I loved it. Just wonderful.

Beautiful Stockholm library. Made me imagine what a lifetime of reading must be like inside our minds.

Thanks for taking us on your journey. Stockholm City looks so spacious with it's wide streets and pedestrian areas, but I love the historical buildings and feel of Gamla Stan. Everywhere is so clean. There's a distinct lack of clouds in those piercing blue skies. We've got plenty spare if you want some. I'll definitely have to visit The Science Fiction Bookstore when I go to Sweden.
I admire you willpower to resist the temptation of the Tolkien section and Greven av Monte Cristo. Those stylised Agatha Christie books caught my eye, too, and I quite fancy that hardback of Le Mort d'Arthur. I like getting lost in a warren of stacks, but there's something magical about a circular library where you can see everything and you're literally surrounded by books.
I love a bit of liquorice, but chocolate liquorice (mentioned in The Jealousy Man) seems a weird taste pairing, to me. I hope you went in the cheese shop. I'm eagerly awaiting your cheese haul. Unless it's liquorice cheese, and then I'd have to unsubscribe :)
You got some really good (and floppy) books. The Book That Wouldn't Burn was one of my faves from last year. You get a bit more from the epigraphs if you've read his other books, but it's a really imaginative story and I can see you liking his writing style. The Starless Sea was like getting lost in a dream. Gorgeous language. No idea what really happened or what it meant. It'll be interesting to get your take. I have 2 weeks left to wait for my hold on Hyunam-Dong Bookshop. It sounds cosy and hopeful but maybe it'll be a bit too twee to be believable? I can understand the mixed reviews of Tomorrow x3. Lots of good, IMO, but it also gets quite dark, has a weird relationship and a slightly too good to be believable character. It might be one of those books whose enjoyment is heavily dependent on mood.
BTW, did the 19th century costumes on the cover of The Night Circus not 'say' historical? :) Have a great weekend and enjoy your new books.

Stockholm is maybe my favourite place, and all these things are part of why^^
We were lucky with the weather, it seems to have cleared up just for our visit!
Oh, for sure, I easily spent nearly an hour at the Science Fiction Bookshop, I highly recommend it!
It was difficult, but I had to limit myself, unless I wanted to get a whole new bag to drag with me😂 But there is always next time!
I think this is the only circular library I've been to, and I think it's just lovely. There are more rooms spread around, but I always head straight for the Rotunda every time^^
The liquorice and chocolate combo seems to be relatively popular here, but I prefer just chocolate myself^^ The cheese store was overwhelming, it was like a bookshop - hard to know where to start😆 But there is definitely no liquorice cheese, so rest assured!
Ahhh, I'm so excited to try all these books out and see what I think!😁 I'm hoping to squeeze them in before the end of April, but we will see.
Haha! I assumed they were just costumes to do with the circus, but I should have known better😆 Needless to say, it was a very happy surprise!
      Happy weekend to you, too^^

Awesome video, all of that beautiful architecture in a reasonable walking distance, I'm jealous! Also, The Stockholm Public Library 14:48, on the bucket list.

It's difficult to walk through Stockholm and not just stare at the buildings you walk past haha!
Oh, rightfully so, the Stockholm Public Library really is such a lovely space^^

What a lovely city! And that library - Wow! It's a shame it has to be closed for so long. Your book buying was remarkably restrained, considering the number of bookshops you visited. We would not have had your willpower.
One of our favorite things about TH-cam/Booktube is getting to see places we almost certainly will never see in person. Thanks for sharing your journey with us!

      Truly☺️
Haha! Believe me, it was *difficult* to keep myself in check, but I really didn't want to have to bring a whole new bag with me on the way back, even if travel is so easy by train, so I only had so much space to work with - but I luckily get to visit Stockholm relatively often, so there is always next time😁
It's my pleasure! I'm so happy that you liked the video^^

Such a lovely video. Stockholm is the only nordic capital I haven't visited, I've been to Gothenburg, Malmö, and Lund but Stockholm is definitely on my list. Looks like a beautiful city 😊

That's so kind of you to say, thank you! Stockholm is a place like home to me, as the Swedish part of my family are Stockholmers, so I am definitely biased, but I do really love it☺️ If you do visit it one day, I think you'll find it worth the trip!

Okay good choice going for the paperback edition of The Book That Wouldn't Burn. I just read it (thought it was fantastic) in preparation for the sequel and I unfortunately got the trade paperback. It's one of those awesome versions where you can barely open it without completely cracking the spine😔
That sf store is my local bookshop btw! You can really walk around for hours in there if you don't have anything else to do😅And I've honestly never been to all the other ones you visited, and I live here lol!
The Starless Sea is interesting, I'm about 100 pages into it atm.

    • @josietalksaboutbooks
      @josietalksaboutbooks  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

Oh noo, the poor spine! Yeah, I'm very happy with this edition, floppy paperbacks never let me down^^
No way! Oh, how lucky🤩 I loooved the SF store, and absolutely believe you when you say time there is easily spent. I felt that myself haha, walking around there! Ah, there are so many bookstores in this city there's no time to visit even half, and when you live a place it's too easy to say "another day"😄
I'm looking forward to getting to The Starless Sea, I'm so intrigued👀 I hope you end up really liking it!

This was a LOT of fun. Thank you for taking us on this adventure...to the bookstores of Stockholm, Sweden. Probrably never going to go there ourselves, but just in case...we have a blueprint on the "hot spots" for book nerds.
Have to admit, that I got a little dizzy about halfway through. It just may be me, but I couldn't handle the quick movements inside the bookstores. I had to stop the video, and close my eyes, then restart the video. It felt like sitting in the back seat of a car on a winding road. Oof. Marie was fine, so it was probably a "me" problem. Though, I though yoiu might want to know about it. Just in case.
Looks like you've picked up some great books. Looking forward to seeing them reviewed (eventually).
    Again, thank you.😅

    • @josietalksaboutbooks
      @josietalksaboutbooks  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

I'm happy you thought so! This is by no means every bookstore worth a visit, but this was all I could fit into one day😆 Next time I go, I'll visit some other ones that I've wanted to see in some other parts of Stockholm^^
Ah, yes, I know exactly what you mean, and I'm really so sorry about that😞 It bothers me, too😅 I just didn't realise this was what it would look like until I was editing, and unfortunately I didn't know what to do about it at that stage🥲 I'm still not sure if it's because of my phone camera or if it was just too much movement from me or if it's a mix of the two, but at least now I know to be more careful! I promise that next time I attempt to make such a video I'll be far more aware of quick and jerky movements^^
Thank you both for watching anyway☺️

@josietalksaboutbooks - Neither of us know ANYTHING about video production (sorry). One thing that Marie thought "might" help, was as certain points...slow it down (like a Zack Snyder action scene). Now, that's us talking about something that may not be readily available in the editing suite that you use. If so, don't worry about it. It probably only effected certain people.
Other than that...we love, love, loved the video. Wouldn't want to stifle your creativity on these Vlogs (which we TRULY enjoy).
BTW, did we understand it correctly...that the National Library (or whatever it was called) will be closed for TWO whole year (2025 to 2027)? Goodness. That is a LONG time without the ability to use the library. Sad for the public, that's for sure.
      Thanks. Talk to you, later.

Before I started my channel I'd never really edited a video before, so I'm learning everything as I go, and my hope is that over time there'll be steady improvement in all of the videos I make, so I'll work on it and keep getting better😁
I'm glad you enjoyed the rest of the video despite that though!
Yes, that's right - there will be a lot of maintenance and even some renovations, and I think the process will be so slow because they have to do a lot while being quite careful🧐 As I understand it, though, the books themselves will still be accessible, just not the spaces within the library?🤔 I'm not sure how they're going about it. But I agree, so I had to take the chance to visit it on this trip!
      Have a lovely evening😊

I tried to enjoy your video, but many of the captions weren't on the screen long enough for read, and since they were in white, were impossible to read when against a light background. A real shame.

Jupp, it's definitely not perfect - I think I might try voicing over next time I try making one of these, and I'll see if it's better that way🤔 Thanks for stopping by, anyway!😊
