I think it also has to deal with what the focus has changed to. In the past, it was mostly using real-world analogues or science to explain stuff in video games. Once he got to FNAF and Undertale, a lot of it shifted to theorizing about the story. Not only are these less interesting and completely unrelated to the science he's used in the past, but they can be disproven so easily. He makes a theory about FNAF's story every few months, and a lot of the time it's proven wrong by the next piece of lore. Then again, that's never stopped him from saying that the developers are wrong. Nothing says "theorizing" like saying that the storytellers are wrong about their own stories. And the worst part is, he did the EXACT same thing with Film Theory. He started out by talking about stuff like "What would swinging like Spider-Man do to your body?" and "What are your odds of winning The Hunger Games?", but then he went right into videos like "Dory is just faking her short-term memory loss" and his many theories about Star Wars (one of which was almost leading to him saying something about how speculation can hurt our perception of media, then turned right back around at the end and said "No, it's the filmmakers who are wrong"). I honestly don't know why I'm still subscribed to him.

Personally, I find MatPat's theories fun. Even if a deal of them aren't amazing, I feel like he has a genuine energy behind most of this stuff, and that he enjoys doing it.
Yea, while I dont keep up to date on most of them I think people take him way too seriously
