    MYSTERY SHOCKS! Huh?! Well, yeah, pretty much! (EDIT: While I still call these Mystery Shocks because there is not a brand name on them, I think it's more appropriate to call them "TB Parts 330mm Honda Monkey Shocks" as TB Parts now has them in stock)
    Ok, so I call these "mystery shocks" because TB parts sent them to me to try when I reported back that the DNM shocks were too stiff for me. They didn't say what they were, and they're not on their website (at that time), so I honestly don't know what they are! I do know one thing, I REALLY like them!
    I definitely recommend these as my "budget shock of choice" for the Honda Monkey. I haven't tried every shock, but do like these better than all of the other shocks I've tried so far.

    P.S. Think progressive spring rate is the opposite way round to how you describe - spring coil further apart = softer section, coils closer together = harder section (it’s why the DNMs feel harder, because the coils are
    overall closer together).

    Hi John, really appreciate your videos, love my Monkey 125, and although I’m just a road rider over in the UK, your Monkey mods give loads of handy info for getting the best out of my little bike. So cool to see your son loves two wheels so much too!

    • @John5XR
      @John5XR  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Craig, I appreciate that! I’m trying to do more road stuff too, Florida really isn’t that fun to ride in the roads on a scooter though. Yeah, the boy is fostering his own two-wheel career and it’s a fun ride to be along on!

      John5XR , that’s so cool - bet the little guy will be doing dual vlogs with you in years to come :D Stay safe during these uncertain times, but appreciate your informative videos, much appreciated 👍🏻

      He did some great motovlogs at the MX track and I’m trying to get him to do more of them, but he’s hot and cold with it 🤷🏼‍♂️

    There’s a ton to shock springs, wkd on a friends pavement sprint car and went to the Eibach factory with him a few years back while racing in California. King of the wings series. They sponsor him so we got a really cool tour of the factory. Progressive, non progressive. Almost infinite amounts of spring rate depending on the wire and how it’s wound. Was very cool to learn how they turned wire into all the different coil spring options available!!

    Thanks for this review. Just ordered a set. I’m heavier than you (250lbs) but hopefully just cranking them down a bit more they will work well for me. If you bottom them out hitting jumps, I should be cool hitting some bumps on trails and the roads. We will find out!

    • @John5XR

    Thanks for the video. I took off the stock shocks and replaced them with some used ones from a 750. They work better than stock. But i would still like to have a better pair. The stock ones are just not enough for us big guys. LOL!!! The black ones look good on the red Monkey.

    • @John5XR
      @John5XR  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are a good middle ground between stock and the stiffer options I’ve tried. It’s most likely all in the spring rates, but they feel good to my 200lb self 👌

    It would be interesting to see if the remote reservoir Ohlins are actually worth the premium price they command. They do have a good reputation with the sports bike riders.

    • @John5XR
      @John5XR  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love the Ohlins on my Grom, so I’m sure they feel great on the Monkey, but man they’re expensive!

    Hey John, big fan great content. Looking to upgrade my 2019 Monkey Shocks and have been following your videos. I am about 205 and strictly ride on the street around town and prefer chrome and looking to spend around $200 for the set. Which do you recommend. Thanks !

    Are these shocks good for the heavier rider among us (me)? I can ride the stock monkey just fine, but bottoming out is regular occurrence. Just wondering.

      Man in the Box is selling them for almost double what TB is selling for. I almost made that mistake of ordering from them.

    • @John5XR
      @John5XR  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I’m a big MNNTHBX fan, but the better buy was direct with TB 👍

    • @MrHennessE
      @MrHennessE 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John5XR yeah, I’m a huge fan of MNNTHBX and will buy everything else from them. Lol. Next mod will most likely be an exhaust and this savings is helping that happen sooner than later.

    • @flint4fire
      @flint4fire 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So you all need to look closely at the shocks that tb is selling there not the same as the ones as MNNTHBX shocks look at the springs there different there better shocks than tb’s shocks that’s why tb’s are allot cheaper best pay more for better progressive springs at MNNTHBX....
