There’s a lot to be happy about with small and simple! When it’s as easy as it is to go jump around the neighborhood and get a riding fix, I can’t think of a better bike
The seat gap preserves the tank paint and the seat fabric wear and tear, plus you could put Christmas cards in there when you go around delivering them to local friends or to the mail box maybe? 🤷♂️😅
Cool video, been watching for the better part of a year. just a tip, in your description you can use time stamps by just typing the time in the video where that chapter starts, ie if you want to skip to 5 minutes and 30 seconds in, type 5:30 and it creates a link that takes you to that time stamp without reloading a whole new youtube page starting at that time. just a bit quicker, and easier to skip around. not huge, but it helps. again, thanks for your content, keep it coming!
Interesting walk around of your modified Monkey bike. I prefer the looks of my standard Monkey, especially the looks of the exhaust. I am only a plodder, not aggressive rider like you, so mine has no deficiencies for me with regard to performance. The only modification I have is footrests for a pillion. I and my pillion weigh 120 Kgs ( 260 lbs ) so the standard rear suspension doesn't bottom out. Similarly Honda say the Monkey is good for 160 Kgs (350 lbs) of weight. In Thailand we have no ABS option on the Honda Monkey but the bike on the road new is only US$3,100 here in Thailand where it is manufactured for the world market.
Thanks John, great walk thru on your mods. I've done most of them. Just ordered the MNNBX MTake and seat bolts. Do you think there is anyway of "painting" the silicone pipe on the MTake? Or maybe wrapping it in electrical tape?? I find the Battleship gray grossly unappealing, although a vast improvement to the "lunchbox"! And many folks replace the ECU to tune everything properly. Which one would you use? Thanks again John and cheers from the PNW!
Glad you enjoyed it! I’d try a flexible paint, maybe even Plasti-Dip to change the color of the intake. Either DHM or CJR for reflashing the stock ecu. They’re the only ones in the game to my knowledge
you helped me decide on putting a deposit on a 21 monkey supposed to ship on the 9th they say its gonna be blue..cant wait to get it ...i like your channel
Awesome vid. I'm going to buy two pit bikes for my boy and I to goof around on pavement, gravel roads and some dirt-mud. Which is your fave? Monkey, Grom, Trail 125 or maybe a crf110 ? Thanks.
I found your channel looking for a 125cc cam install because I’d like to get the Honda Trail 125. Then I subscribed because your videos are top notch and you seem like a great dude. Question: What was your top speed with that new cam? Thanks
Thank you, I appreciate that! The cam will really come into play when you have the intake and exhaust to optimize the increased airflow the cam will allow. On the trail, I think it’s going to be very much a trail bike and totally not something that will go much above 50-55 on the street. Also, changing that snorkel intake would be a shame as it’s a cool design. I too am getting a trail and am looking forward to it!
@@John5XR I'm excited to hear you're getting one too! I look forward to the videos. Yeah, I won't be changing out the snorkel...probably just a better breathing filter (if that's available) and better flowing exhaust. I'm planning on doing the Trans America Trail next August and would like to be able to reach 60 comfortably on the highway stretches. Maybe with a cam and some sprocket magic I can make it happen.
Ah, ok now that makes sense. Well I feel the tires made a huge difference in my speed, the knobbies will slow the bike by a few mph. The cam might be a good option for sustained high speed riding, and while it would suck to lose the amazing looking pipe on the trail, you’d be losing a lot of speed potential by not having a free’r flowing exhaust
I've learned so much from you, Thanks. I have a question, my 2019 Monkey's brake light only works when using the brake lever not with the foot pedal, is that normal?

@@John5XR Much thanks. Wow I feel like a dumb head. I did my screen/spinner at 600 miles based off internet poppy poppycock. If you add the tank riser, keep in mind it requires a little drilling (easy) on the front tank Mount, and some metal cutting on the stock seat (harder) to allow the rear spacer to fit. If you have the Kitaco seat you won't need to cut anything in the seat but will still need to drill the front tank mounts. The look is great overall, just a little tricky to install.
Hey John, I’ve watched many of your videos, and I find them all pretty helpful. I recently bought a 2020 Monkey and have been loving it, but am disappointed in the performance a bit. I’m trying to keep it as stock as possible, but as I’m trying to increase performance I’m doing one mod after another. Im a student in Tally, and the thing that bothers me the most is the low top speed. I hate the feeling of cars passing me. My goal for performance is really just to keep up with traffic so I can feel safe. So far I’ve got the full system RS-3 exhaust, I have a 14t front sprocket coming in, after all your mods do you have any recommendations I can hone in on to reach my goal but without doing all the mods you have. I was considering doing the intake and a racing cam, and last resort a big bore kit, but if you doing think they’ll help much or there are better options I don’t think I’d want to put the money into them. Also, what would you recommend for gearing? I thought about doing the 36 back sprocket, but then I thought I heard you say that it actually hindered your top speed even though you accelerated faster. What back sprocket would you recommend if I could just pick up a couple more MPH? Also… Sidenote… I heard you say that you had the man out of the box billet black rear suspension but you didn’t like it so you took it off. If that’s true would you happen to sell that to me? I’m also in Florida. Hopefully you can help me, thanks for all the videos!

Hi Candace! Thanks for this amazing comment and for watching my channel! There’s a few questions that I’d need to ask about your speed goals before dialing in some recommended mods. Most importantly, what top-speed would you want to achieve? The 70-mph mark is hard to hit on a bolt-on equipped (Exhaust, Intake) Monkey unless you’re really lightweight (not sure what you weigh, but for me at over 200lbs, the best I could get was around 60 on a flat road, fully aero-tucked, which isn’t practical. Sitting comfortably 55-60. I’d say I can go between 65-70 now fully tucked, and 65 comfortably, but did need the cam and ecu tuned in addition to the rest of the mods to get there. My “recommend 65-70 combo” would be: full exhaust (no cat), intake, TB Parts camshaft, DHM ecu tuned for your specific parts, and a 14/36 or even 14/37 gear combo. I still can’t hit the rpm limiter in 4th gear with my 14/36, so the step up to a 37 would get the bike closer to that limiter and max out the engines capabilities. Without the cam, the 14/36 will yield better acceleration, but won’t help top speed. If you wanna go beyond 70, I’d suggest the new DHM high-compression piston or big-bore kit, as the easy bolt-on’s won’t get you there. Also, I have knobby tires that hinder top-speed, so with stock tires you’ll get a little more top speed than I do with my mods. An interesting note is I have almost the same mods on my 14’ Grom but with a 14/37 gear combo, and I was able to hit 67mph using the Monkey wheels and tires, so I’d assume the Monkey would be able to hit 70 on the stock tires as I always felt it was a touch faster than the Grom. Hope this helps! I am willing to sell the MNNTHBX shocks as well, shoot me an email me and we can discuss the shocks: john.r.adamczyk@gmail.com
Best way to go faster is get a bigger much heavier less cute bike. Otherwise maybe a sport windscreen and lower bars so you are tucked down a bit would be easier than cog ratios and speedo alterations. You might get 3mph faster if you spend hundreds on air intake, exhaust and remap, but I think a monkey is a short wheelbase lightweight bike that’s meant to be enjoyed riding in a leisurely way. Thus cars will be a lot faster, even if you do squeeze another 1hp out of it.
