I'm having so much fun with my Lich Feyform Shifter and I'm already excited to replay as a Trickster/Legend Manticore and Demon Base archetype. I want to at least try Demon Wolf before its fixed, as it is crazy busted right now.
Something fun to note. Since Wolverine's Major Form gets to pick up two Rage Powers at lvl 8, Shifter lvls count for Rage Power lvl requirements. This means two lvls of Base Barbarian allows any shifter Archtype to gain pounce as early as lvl 12 with the Extra Rage Power Feat even if they don't have access to Dinosaur or Tiger Major Forms. This is especially handy for Fey Form.
@Diomedes that's the point. The actual dragon archetype is weaker than other options. A regular druid is a better dragon. Shifter only gets up to dragonkind II in their form. The only thing they have going for them is the ability to shift into a dragon at level 9. I just wish there was something unique for the archetype to make it a worthwhile selection.
Theres shifters in P.F? Well how about Paizo make an analogue race/ species for dragonborn, aka Dragonkin/ Dragonfolk or something. Having clear heritage from Chromatic, Metallic, even P.F analogue Gem dragons. Paizo is great at catering and aping after ex DnD 3.5 refugees so why not?

Not what Im after. Dragonborns were created purely by dragons, perfect mix of dragon and humanoid without tails and wings. And just to throw it out there, Draconians are dragon-like humanoids born from corruped/ meddled with eggs of chromatic/ gem/ metallic types. At least universally, usually and most known is the Dragonlance evil metallic ones. Draconians vary in having tails and wings. Half-Dragons are rarest and always have tails. Dragonborns have neither. Seems folks confuse them, understandibly. Much draconic, much learn. Oh and Kobolds appeared from the first drops of dragon blood a.f.a.I.k 🤔

This is exactly what I needed. I have played PF1e for a while and knew the shifter was sub optimal. I was pumped when they announced its addition to WotR, especially plans to expand on the tabletop version. Work has been crazy busy recently and I haven't had time to sit down, parce through the changes and apply it to a character. This did all that and more and I really appreciate it. Keep up the great work dude!!!
Kind of weird they don't let you use Ulbrig's Shifter Archetype Griffonheart for your own character. It actually seems pretty good, you can grapple enemies so basically like Overwhelm in Dragon Age (though even better cause not limited to humanoid targets). I'd imagine it's great for charging and disabling big bad spellcasters like in DAO. Plus you get Rake which is two extra claw attacks on grappled enemies, so basically decimates any low STR enemy. Just installed a mod called "Tabletop Tweaks" which adds Griffonheart and a "Holy Beast" shifter Archetype. Should be fun!
I wish the minor aspect would shut off when combat ends like the skald’s group rage. The number of times I’ve forgotten to turn it off after combat one to notice when my 11 minutes left is now 3 minutes is too many. But I am enjoying the base class. None of the subclasses interest me except maybe the nightmare fuel Feyform.
I just am bummed Manticore is ranged only tbh. Its stylish but being able to do like claws, fangs, wings, and stings would have been neat. Am looking at potential interactions now that the spikes are considered thrown. Wasn’t working with some Rage Powers but did with the one background trait.
tbf imo manticore is the strongest even though it is solely ranged. you never lose any damage due to over-killing. ive been doing a fey playthrough and its sneak attack is really good as well tho.

@@NotQuiteAllHere ye I agree, was bummed by the dragon shifter. I feel like there are so many ways to turn into a dragon in wotr that a class entirely dedicated to it just comes out lackluster unless you do a lot of tweaking to make it work.
I think Wild Effigy might be good if you intend on playing one with an armor and low Wisdom maybe. But i don't know if your AC from armor is kept while in major form?
You don't keep your armor, but mage armor works. You can also regain your unarmored defense by taking a level in monk. If you go Wild Effigy 18 / Monk 1/ Empyreal Sorcerer 1 with Master Shapeshifter and Archmage armor as mythic abilities you should be very tanky
I would normally give owlcat crap for their inconsistent design of classes (assassin being an absolute joke for example) and lack of support for some (kineticist has what, a handful of items and a tiny bit of support in lich?) but this seems very well integrated in the base game

The feyform still gets the minor aspects added to feyform from tiger mammoth when you would normally get chimera aspect. If you get my meaning you dont lose much of anything in exchange for this as you said superior rogue shape. Thanks! Love you and crpg bro, slandered gaming. You gave me a break from the last spell!! Energized Wild Shape, Raking Claws, Frightful Shape and Wild Spells all have Major Form as a requirement - At least the first three have some potential use in Shifter builds, I would have thought (and my current plan for a Trickster Fey just got a whole lot more interesting with the last one for UMD and other Mythic spells)?
Hey id love to see a vid on your favorite character creators in rpgs. Not just ones that have lots of options for how your character looks but skills, traits, background, relationships, etc... that end up being important in the game.
Shifter is amazing addition. In my actual game I have my Azata sorccerer a in front line are Aivu and my Mercenary dragon :-D. And you practicaly dont need any weapons whatsoever. Before the end dragon has 9 attacks per round and awarage 65 damage per attack (with all the item) and 61 AC. Its probably not closed to perfect but on normal or darring dif I practicaly eat every enemy. And is cool as hell to have 2 dragons in the front line (dragon shifter at 20 level is pretty huge). By the way some items from last DLC arena are pretty strong. Multiatack with other natural weapons are good as well when only attack from Fury has a penatly on attack rolls. On lower levels shifter works more like unarmed monk with claw attacks but the moment you get dragon form its no reason to use normal form at all (only to change gear).
picked blightdruid with shifter, it is working really well as a crowd control brawler our griffon buddy being able to not only fly on top of the backliners, but also making them all nauseated by just being there is really good there is also a lot of new feats for druids, it is really a massive upgrade for them too, beaten the base game when it came out with an elemental rampager and i am trying it again with it and omg it is good
I think the biggest miss for the Shifter was locking Feyform into an Ankou/minor rogue. I play one in pnp, and turning into a Muse in early levels to get 5 ranged touch attacks that deal sonic damage has been incredibly useful.

@FlameUser64 hey so apparently my previous reply was removed, but you're welcome. I love this class and I'm glad someone else is finding joy in it. Absolutely ask your GM about the charisma thing cause it makes sense. Also, if your GM is generous, you'll get the attacks for the CR20 Whisperer.
The ruleset is largely the same, the biggest problem is the options that exist in WotR but not Kingmaker. WotR added a lot of classes, subclasses, feats, and of course the mythic paths, so builds that involve taking a dip into some of those classes, taking specific feats, or use mythic abilities to really come online are going to need some tweaking. It's certainly doable, but without those, it might be another class would serve just as well. There are also differences based on the specific module: In WotR you're fighting demons the vast majority of the time, but I don't recall many, if any, in Kingmaker; it's much more Fey-focused. There also isn't the ludicrous enemy overtuning in Kingmaker, at least not to the same degree, so things aimed at bypassing insane amounts of enemy AC and the like won't really be as necessary past a certain point and you might want to take a build in a different direction.
Currently playing my first MC Shifter game as Weretouched. It's a ton of fun. I dipped into Vivisectionist for the sneak attacks and mutagens and it seems to be working really well.
Something fun that I'm experimenting with on my Shifter (in PFS not WotR) is playing a Shifter with a one-level dip into a Steelblood Id Rager Bloodrager. It allows me to wear Heavy Armor (Stonemail/Dragonscale Plate) while also gaining a Rage that gives +6 Strength, +4 Con, +2 Will at the cost of -3 Armor (counting in a -2 Dex). Also debating on using the Beaststrike Club for some shenanigan. 1d6 Club > 1d8 spending a Wildshape > 2d6 While Raging (1-handed club btw). Could take a -2 to hit and make it a Large club to turn it into a 2-handed weapon with 3d6 Damage.
Hi I'm playing through wotr and I'm having..... a problem, basically I used hilor to "hire" a mercenary ,i.e. create a custom party character, and made em into a kineticist earth/fire build atm ,lvl13-14, 11 max burn, my problem is that I should be able to use magma blade but it's blacked out and I can't use it but I can use magma wall with pushing n bowling infusions as well as maximize and empower metakinesis if I toggle on gather power low but I've tried every possible combination of things to try and use magma kinetic blade and the game still refuses to let me use it even when I push the burn to zero, please I need help
Something else worth mentioning why the Feyform Shifter is just a better rogue is that the full transformation is a 'large' size creature. The extra reach you get from being large is amazing for a sneak attacker. It's much easier to get off a full attack from a safe position and lets you sit behind your tanks and sneak attack over their heads as if you are using a polearm, dishing out your massive damage from outside enemy reach. Honestly a lot of the time you aren't even outside their reach but the AI seems to not like attacking past someone they are face to face with so it still works. I know this doesn't sound like much but it really makes a huge difference.
I'm having alot of fun playing as Dragonblood shifter and the early transformation with Dragonkind I and being able to stay in the form with Master Shapeshifter mythic feat is great it let's me play pretty close to an actual Dragon. But the class is very very lacking with the upper levels Master Shapeshifter mythic feat makes Greater Wyrmshifter seem like bad joke. They should have at a minimum included the Dragonkind III and Wyvern in this class and to do it right some alternate dragon forms like Plague Dragon and Abyssal Drake throughout to set apart form others.Overall it's fun and I'll stick with my current theme probably take 5 levels Dragonheir Scion and definitely the Golden Dragon Mythic Path to kind finish this dragon theme character I'm doing.
I Play fiendish in my Playtrough and i am very sad about it xD but my Portrait dosent Work for normal shifter. So i maybe cheated Defensive instinct on him and now its little bit better to Play xD
Finishing my demon run atm using demon forms. Something i hope that is not present for the shifter is a bug i ran into for the marilith demon form. If you save a game in demon form ( my demon forms last 24h) and reload that save. The natural attacks from the demonic form get replaced by either demonic claws or you turn unarmed. This is especially bad on marileth cause you lose six long sword attacks that turn into one claw or unarmed attack. Allready let owlcat know. Issue on console btw
Awesome now I know how to stat these boyos. I'm always confused on how I should stat a class when I'm trying out something new in Pathfinder especially if it recommends something outside of "int/wisdom/charisma for casters, strength for martial." Thanks for the help!
Thank you for assembling this. Good information and definitely colors me intrigued. But the real question: Is the DLC character a better exemplar of the class than anything we could build without making it into something no longer shifter?
His aspect and death from above ability is extremely strong but feyform is still stronger imo - more attacks and full sneak attack progression is utterly disgusting. with lunge I was full attacking almost as often as he was, depending on map size. Feyform comes online earlier too, you can wreck anything at level 4 while the griffin form doesn't really start going until level 8 or 9 or whenever death from above turns into a full attack.
@@neuropantser5 Good answer. I made one, didn't go fey form, because I'm planning to go Legend with this character. So I can get Sneak Attack from another source. But still finding it very strong in the early game. I suspect it may fall off in a few levels. (Or would, if I wasn't multi-classing and getting the Legend Stat Boost.)
I'm stuck. Do I start a run and make Wenduag a Manticore Shifter because she has the ranged Feats already, or a Spider-focused Shifter because she fits it visually? Convince me either way!
about to play WotR for the first time. Would it be wise to start with one of the base game classes or jump straight into a Shifter build. This vid sold me the class.
shifter is a super easy class to play compared to like 90% of the others. The only downside is you're going to want to be in your shifted for 99% of the time after you pick up the Master Shapeshifter ability
You could, or use the amulet that does it as well. Depends on your build though if you'd want too though, in some instances that feat could get you more damage.

The reason the dragon shifter is good, is the strength bonus isnt a size or inherent bonus, but a polymorph bonus, so it stacks ith enlarge/legendary proportions as well as enhancment and the inherent bonuses from books etc.
@@neuropantser5 my point was about dragon shape. Other dragon forms give a size bonus, so they dont stack with enlarge, and because the other shifter forms give an inherent bonus, they dont stack with the books or potion, where as the dragon does stack with both.
natural attacks do not interact with TWF at all. You make both claw/spike attacks at your full BAB without needing that feat, and you don't take penalties like you would for TWFing with weapons.
Druid, wizard, arcanist, sorcerer and dragon bloodline eldritch scion can all turn into dragons by mid game. And any class that specs into dragon disciple prestige class. Or anyone that uses a dragon form/shape change scroll. Or anyone with a brown fur transmuter party member. So anyone can become a better dragon than dragonform shifter lol
Doesn't Feyform also give you the Druid Spellbook when transformed? Being a Rogue and a Druid at the same time seems pretty strong. Base Shifter= Fighter Feyform= Druid and Rogue Rageshaper= Barbarian Shifter Effigy= Tank shifter Only bad one seems to be Demon/dragon, which is just there to roleplay the demon/dragon mythic path.
@@neuropantser5 People say that, but can you explain why? It seems like it could be handy to cripple/disable a target. Expecially a caster I can't kill with a full round attack.
@@GuatemalanJedi they're not disabled, they just get a penalty to attack rolls and dexterity and cant take move actions. a caster especially wouldn't be affected because that barely interferes with spellcasting. say you're in tiger form and you pounce into the backline to hit a squishy caster. if you grapple you do one attack, a little damage, and you keep them from moving. they hit you with icy prison or disintegrate next round lol. now say you're in tiger form and you pounce. you're level 9 and have shifter's fury so you do six fucking attacks and you gib that squishy caster in 3, plus his friend 10 feet away because you have the lunge feat, and you knock off half the health of the archer.
@@plemgrubern they de-shift ulbrig during dialogues unfortunately (which is annoying bc it turns off shifter's fury) but not the PC lol. so could imply, for instance, that sosiel is getting railed by a velociraptor
Yeah I actually asked the devs about it, because weretouched seems obvious, they said it would have required a complete rework of several systems for it to function properly for some reason or another.

I'm currently playing both shifters, MC tiger and Ulrig, as in the video. Totally doable on unfair, and I like it very much.
It's been really fun so far and a few powerful archetypes. Just wish the dragonblood one wasn't so weak in comparison.

The issue is the lack of the third dimension of movement that most things with dragon attached to them are balanced for in the table top format.
Also the shifter is just a bad class in general for 1e pathfinder

Pathfinder got that covered as well. Wyvarans are kinda like medium half-kobolds / half-wyverns.

Dragonkin are playable in Starfinder and can be back ported to Pathfinder 1e if you wanted

Shifter sounds like about the best option for Through the Ashes campaign since the weapons you find there suck miserably
You can also use an Amulet of Agile Fists to add your dex to damage
That seems to be not working at the moment at least it did not work for me during my personal testing (child of the maticor subclass)
It works for me. Don't know about the manticore, but the usual shifter does work.

Yo I started Kingmaker last week, how hard it is to adapt Wotr builds to Kingmaker?
The ruleset is largely the same, the biggest problem is the options that exist in WotR but not Kingmaker. WotR added a lot of classes, subclasses, feats, and of course the mythic paths, so builds that involve taking a dip into some of those classes, taking specific feats, or use mythic abilities to really come online are going to need some tweaking. It's certainly doable, but without those, it might be another class would serve just as well.
There are also differences based on the specific module: In WotR you're fighting demons the vast majority of the time, but I don't recall many, if any, in Kingmaker; it's much more Fey-focused. There also isn't the ludicrous enemy overtuning in Kingmaker, at least not to the same degree, so things aimed at bypassing insane amounts of enemy AC and the like won't really be as necessary past a certain point and you might want to take a build in a different direction.

Currently playing my first MC Shifter game as Weretouched. It's a ton of fun. I dipped into Vivisectionist for the sneak attacks and mutagens and it seems to be working really well.
Something fun that I'm experimenting with on my Shifter (in PFS not WotR) is playing a Shifter with a one-level dip into a Steelblood Id Rager Bloodrager. It allows me to wear Heavy Armor (Stonemail/Dragonscale Plate) while also gaining a Rage that gives +6 Strength, +4 Con, +2 Will at the cost of -3 Armor (counting in a -2 Dex).
Also debating on using the Beaststrike Club for some shenanigan. 1d6 Club > 1d8 spending a Wildshape > 2d6 While Raging (1-handed club btw). Could take a -2 to hit and make it a Large club to turn it into a 2-handed weapon with 3d6 Damage.
Hi I'm playing through wotr and I'm having..... a problem, basically I used hilor to "hire" a mercenary ,i.e. create a custom party character, and made em into a kineticist earth/fire build atm ,lvl13-14, 11 max burn, my problem is that I should be able to use magma blade but it's blacked out and I can't use it but I can use magma wall with pushing n bowling infusions as well as maximize and empower metakinesis if I toggle on gather power low but I've tried every possible combination of things to try and use magma kinetic blade and the game still refuses to let me use it even when I push the burn to zero, please I need help
Something else worth mentioning why the Feyform Shifter is just a better rogue is that the full transformation is a 'large' size creature. The extra reach you get from being large is amazing for a sneak attacker. It's much easier to get off a full attack from a safe position and lets you sit behind your tanks and sneak attack over their heads as if you are using a polearm, dishing out your massive damage from outside enemy reach. Honestly a lot of the time you aren't even outside their reach but the AI seems to not like attacking past someone they are face to face with so it still works. I know this doesn't sound like much but it really makes a huge difference.
I'm having alot of fun playing as Dragonblood shifter and the early transformation with Dragonkind I and being able to stay in the form with Master Shapeshifter mythic feat is great it let's me play pretty close to an actual Dragon. But the class is very very lacking with the upper levels Master Shapeshifter mythic feat makes Greater Wyrmshifter seem like bad joke. They should have at a minimum included the Dragonkind III and Wyvern in this class and to do it right some alternate dragon forms like Plague Dragon and Abyssal Drake throughout to set apart form others.Overall it's fun and I'll stick with my current theme probably take 5 levels Dragonheir Scion and definitely the Golden Dragon Mythic Path to kind finish this dragon theme character I'm doing.

I Play fiendish in my Playtrough and i am very sad about it xD but my Portrait dosent Work for normal shifter. So i maybe cheated Defensive instinct on him and now its little bit better to Play xD
Finishing my demon run atm using demon forms. Something i hope that is not present for the shifter is a bug i ran into for the marilith demon form. If you save a game in demon form ( my demon forms last 24h) and reload that save. The natural attacks from the demonic form get replaced by either demonic claws or you turn unarmed. This is especially bad on marileth cause you lose six long sword attacks that turn into one claw or unarmed attack. Allready let owlcat know. Issue on console btw
Awesome now I know how to stat these boyos. I'm always confused on how I should stat a class when I'm trying out something new in Pathfinder especially if it recommends something outside of "int/wisdom/charisma for casters, strength for martial." Thanks for the help!
I actually did the fey form shifter as my tank, stack ac and have 20% concealment permanent on top
Thank you for assembling this. Good information and definitely colors me intrigued. But the real question: Is the DLC character a better exemplar of the class than anything we could build without making it into something no longer shifter?
Not super sure what you mean your wording is a little awkward. But the new companion does have a unique subclass which is extremely strong.
His aspect and death from above ability is extremely strong but feyform is still stronger imo - more attacks and full sneak attack progression is utterly disgusting. with lunge I was full attacking almost as often as he was, depending on map size. Feyform comes online earlier too, you can wreck anything at level 4 while the griffin form doesn't really start going until level 8 or 9 or whenever death from above turns into a full attack.
@@neuropantser5 Good answer. I made one, didn't go fey form, because I'm planning to go Legend with this character. So I can get Sneak Attack from another source. But still finding it very strong in the early game. I suspect it may fall off in a few levels. (Or would, if I wasn't multi-classing and getting the Legend Stat Boost.)

about to play WotR for the first time. Would it be wise to start with one of the base game classes or jump straight into a Shifter build. This vid sold me the class.
shifter is a super easy class to play compared to like 90% of the others. The only downside is you're going to want to be in your shifted for 99% of the time after you pick up the Master Shapeshifter ability
Would you be able to use the mythic weapon finesse to convert the claws damage bonus to full Dex?
You could, or use the amulet that does it as well. Depends on your build though if you'd want too though, in some instances that feat could get you more damage.

The reason the dragon shifter is good, is the strength bonus isnt a size or inherent bonus, but a polymorph bonus, so it stacks ith enlarge/legendary proportions as well as enhancment and the inherent bonuses from books etc.
the other shapes bonuses stack with enlarge etc too - I always throw enlarge on griffon guy
@@neuropantser5 my point was about dragon shape. Other dragon forms give a size bonus, so they dont stack with enlarge, and because the other shifter forms give an inherent bonus, they dont stack with the books or potion, where as the dragon does stack with both.
So does this class "need" two weapon fighting or rather does it work with this class?
natural attacks do not interact with TWF at all. You make both claw/spike attacks at your full BAB without needing that feat, and you don't take penalties like you would for TWFing with weapons.

Druid, wizard, arcanist, sorcerer and dragon bloodline eldritch scion can all turn into dragons by mid game. And any class that specs into dragon disciple prestige class. Or anyone that uses a dragon form/shape change scroll. Or anyone with a brown fur transmuter party member. So anyone can become a better dragon than dragonform shifter lol
Doesn't Feyform also give you the Druid Spellbook when transformed? Being a Rogue and a Druid at the same time seems pretty strong.
Base Shifter= Fighter
Feyform= Druid and Rogue
Rageshaper= Barbarian Shifter
Effigy= Tank shifter
Only bad one seems to be Demon/dragon, which is just there to roleplay the demon/dragon mythic path.

@@neuropantser5 People say that, but can you explain why? It seems like it could be handy to cripple/disable a target. Expecially a caster I can't kill with a full round attack.
@@GuatemalanJedi they're not disabled, they just get a penalty to attack rolls and dexterity and cant take move actions. a caster especially wouldn't be affected because that barely interferes with spellcasting.
say you're in tiger form and you pounce into the backline to hit a squishy caster. if you grapple you do one attack, a little damage, and you keep them from moving. they hit you with icy prison or disintegrate next round lol.
now say you're in tiger form and you pounce. you're level 9 and have shifter's fury so you do six fucking attacks and you gib that squishy caster in 3, plus his friend 10 feet away because you have the lunge feat, and you knock off half the health of the archer.
Is there any reason to ever get out of wildshape after getting Master Shapeshifter? Other than getting through doors and tight hallways..
to change gear. and because having the KC be a dinosaur or fey assassin thing in dialogues and cutscenes looks silly asf

@@plemgrubern they de-shift ulbrig during dialogues unfortunately (which is annoying bc it turns off shifter's fury) but not the PC lol. so could imply, for instance, that sosiel is getting railed by a velociraptor

Yeah I actually asked the devs about it, because weretouched seems obvious, they said it would have required a complete rework of several systems for it to function properly for some reason or another.
