Your flowers are gorgeous. Your entire allotment is thriving. Thank you Sarah. Also if you plant thyme or dill with your cabbage plants they will help keep bugs off with their strong scent. Lavender will help keep aphids off.
Good afternoon the reason that your radishes didn’t grow bigger was that they were too close together. They didn’t have room for grow. You are doing wonderful with your allotment
Your plot is looking beautiful! You look so nice in your gorgeous fern blouse. It makes me laugh that you grow veg that you don’t eat!!! Your sweet peas and and wild flowers are amazing ❤
Hi Sarah. How nice to see you out on a summer's evening instead of the rain. The sweetpeas and flowers look lovely in the different pots. Sad to see your cabbages attacked by those darn critters grrr. Loved the video and seeing all your efforts turning to fruition xxx
I thought pumpkins grew on the ground. Ours spread along the ground and not up. In fact they spread from where they were planted onto our lawn which was 10 feet away from the stalk.😀 Your plot is looking lovely.👏
Jam pots are perfect for those glorious Sweet Peas, so many colors, wish I could smell them too ! Bloody caterpillars, wish I knew how to get rid of them ☹ at least you evicted the ones you caught sneaking around. Glad to be back enjoying your journey, now to catch up on the rest ! 🥰🥰 xx
@@juliemcolgan1446 my first year of successful growing I believe it was the pinching out I did at about 18 inches tall and then cutting the flowers really did make many more grow
Sarah as a novice you are doing quite well with your allotment. Wish I was there to help you. You got some pretty good looking radishes although I would probably thin them out a bit.
Squish them they come back if you throw them, check inside the cluster for tinier ones also looks for eggs around the cabbage head they hide in there, look under the leaves for eggs and larvae. 7 dust (spray or powder) helps with cabbage bugs. Sweet peas are beautiful. Garden looks great! ❤
Once your poppy pod turns brown cut the top off and save them seeds in side pods .,,your cabbage leaves check for dots of eggs take packing tap around your hand inside out ,or sticky side out and tap the eggs with the sticky side they will stick to the tape without hurting the plant ..
Absolutely astonishing how you've put your allotment into order, I'm gobsmacked, I think that your kidding us on that your an amateur Sarah lol, really congratulations on your success
@sarahsallotmentjourney well whatever it was that influenced you it sure worked, have you thought about turning this series into a book?definitely worth thinking about Sarah I'm sure it would be a great hit
Radishes, carrots, beets all have to be thinned out when they come up so they can have space to grow fat! Dust the cabbage, sprouts, broccoli or pillers will eat them gone. I plant marigolds beside mine.
It is so hard when you get a plant growing only to have something come along and ruin it for you. I am thinking you have to put the netting on straight away when you plant things and not give the moth a running start.
Sarah, the Cabbage White butterfly's are looking for places to lay their eggs. Which they lay under the leaves. So your lovely netting has probably trapped any eggs laid inside. So when the eggs hatch the caterpillars 🐛 then eat your leaves. Then they fly up and become what you found....the chrysalis. All that lovely cabbage cut. Wish I'd seen you doing that cabbage massacre. 😂 I'd have volunteered taken them home for tea. 😋 Including holes. I know you hate veg but i love them. Cabbage (darker the better) I was so pleased you gave away your glut of radish. The red ones looked good. Your black ones were so sad looking, but i think maybe they were just a bit too close together. Its all a learning curve though. You win some, you loose some. Trying is the joy of growing isn't it. Plus I'm sure the children loved eating some, fresh from the ground. Crunch crunch. Great job done. I'm glad your enjoying your allotment journey Sarah. By now, you should be thinking about whats next. Im watching this in October. I'm looking forward to sering what next year brings. A decent spring and summer for starters. Plus full luscious crops will be nice. Your sweet peas were beautiful. How pretty they are. I can almost smell their sweet perfume from here. They grew so well. X x
Love watching you ,thanks for the ideas on the lattice,I had some left of stakes and pieces of lattice that I put together and made 4 lattice areas in my garden ..making some signs too and took some old fence boards ,painted them got some stakes and made two garden beds next to my front door area at my condo ,,it was approved as it turned out really nice ..thanks for all the ideas ..love your allotment.. beautiful
I see you love fresh flowers but the ones painted on teapots and cups, not so much and that's OK Your flowers are lovely. Fresh flowers makes me smile. I've rarely seen a garden that looks so neat and tidy This could well be your place of peace...good for you Sarah, you've worked hard to make it that way. Woulld someone explain to me how allotments work? Are they for people who don't have a garden/yard at their house or apartment? Do people have to pay a fee? Are allotments different sizes?
Allotments are plots of ground rented from the local council or landowners they do vary in size - they pay a yearly fee (it varies depending on which area they live in) anyone can have an allotment there's huge waiting lists though they've been a part of gardening for hundreds of years but were definitely encouraged during the wars when we had food rationing as vegetables were not rationed you could grow as much as you could

Here's what I'm thinking , maybe the cabbage moths laid their eggs on the leaves before you netted them ? Or maybe you should have used a staple gun & secured the netting at the base of your bed on the wood so no caterpillars could crawl up under the netting , get up inside & have a feast ?
Hey , we live & learn from one another ! I'm so glad none of the bird seed landed in ( what were they ?
