At the 2011 Disney Legends ceremony, held at the D23 Expo, Jodi Benson performed "Part of Your World" from The Little Mermaid after accepting her award.
I think all the singers of the 90s Disney Renaissance should get together and go on a massive tour.
hahaha that would be awesome
And i would totally watch it!
agreed
+Kyle Mikesell -EEYUP!
+Kyle Mikesell -Shame Disney Today is just well crap! i love old Disney better!
I miss the days when the voices for animated characters were selected based on their vocal & theatrical talent, not their celebrity status.
So true
I have high hopes for Moana. Since they chose a total unknown, I'm very hopeful that her voice will be something special. If they chose her simply for her nationality, well, that will be somewhat disappointing.
We'll see! I'll have to check that one out.
agree
Bethany oh my gosh same! Now all the voice actors are increasingly exclusively attractive young celebrities.
As a disabled person this song means so much to me.
Thats sweet! I hope the best for you
i'm disabled as well and never thought of it like that. whoa.
Well I am homebound so yeah i don't get out much lol
I wish you all the joy you can wish for!
thank you :)
1:30 When the audience answered to Jodi “Street!” I shedded tears. This song brought the grown-ups to their childhood.
Haha
Looking for this exact comment while crying 😂
I feel like she's still 16 with that voice
Jacinth Sabado she wasn't even 16 when she 1st voiced Ariel.
Doesn't matter when she recorded it. Im saying she sounds really young -___-
Jacinth Sabado She was like 28 but it doesn't matter, I agree she can still sound so young (she did sound ~16 when she played Ariel) - an excellent actress :3
I agree!
Matthew Randell it's not 28 I think she's in her 50s probably she's in her 60s now
I want moooOOOOOOOOREEEE
*cameras shuttering ferociously*
I know right! Lol
Bubbles ಠ_ಠ lol i know
Bubbles ಠ_ಠ lmfaoooo yaasss
Bubbles ಠ_ಠ Ready to STAAAAAAAANNNNNDDDDDDD
*repeat the cameras shuttering moment
It's like she's saying "I want more shuttering cameras" then the cameras started shuttering... Lol XD
I dont know, but this just made me tear up. My childhood came back to me and I miss it.
FreedomWall x same
FreedomWall x I'm balling right now. I miss it so much. MY cousin and I watched this movie everyday next to the Christmas tree it sucks growing.
Don't worry, soon you'll get to relive it all with your kids or grandkids. I know I do!
hi
FreedomWall x same here, 90s kids represent!!
1:50 - 2:10. The way she elongates “THEEEEEESE waters” and “warm OOOOHHHNN the sand”. Exactly like she did in the movie. So perfect.
My dad took my mom to see the Little Mermaid for their first date😊
That's so sweet ☺️
sweet💕
Awwee
+Madeline Dawson My dad, Lion King. haha
Aaw! So cute😊
I love that giggle when the guy yells 'FEET' and she points at him and says the line I think that's so precious.
Agreed, probably takes her back to when she first recorded it.
myhoneybringsallthebeestomyjar yeah other live performances people yell out feet
@@nukacolanut9274 I still love Little Mermaid (Carter Jenkins on Aliens in the Attic/Lego Ninja-go and Tangled/Chipotle in Los Angeles).
@@nukacolanut9274 what about you?
She can not be replaced 🥹
As a CARTOON no.
I second the previous comment. As a cartoon/animation, she cannot be replaced.
However, I truly believe that if taking "childhood" and "originality" away... Halle's version brings more connection to the song and really make you believe she is really feeling what she is singing.
*SHE IS ARIEL!*
@@th3ch3ss Well, I think jodi better expresses Ariel’s curiosity and sense of youth🤔Halle’s version makes me feel like she has been through a lot.But of course both Jodi and Halle sing soooo well.
She's still got it.
She probably sang her kids to sleep every night with this lol
I'd be too happy if I was her child. 😂
Yeah XD
I betcha it would never fail.
If it is, I would probably thought I gave birth by a mermaid lol
Nice
You can tell from her facial expressions that she's become Ariel. She's totally in character as Ariel and it is beautiful to see and hear.
A lot of singers start to lose their voice when they get to Jodi’s age, but she’s still got it.
I love her facial expression she does to convey how Ariel felt in the moment of this scene. I’m excited for the new little mermaid but this movie changed *everything*. Thank you Howard, Alan & Jodi!! You all defined an era.
hats off to the grown ups in the audience that said "Feet" and "street" they know whats up
I suddenly wish I was Ursula so I can steal her voice. It's perfect!
Bella K lol! 😂
Bella K I think we all do
Ily
SAME!!!
HHHHAAAAA HAAAAA HAAAAAHAAAAA
Bella K never have i wanted to be the antagonist until i saw your comment! Haha i’m sure we all do, that voice is so soothingly calm, so alluring like a real 🧜♀️
This women needs more love, her voice and expressions as a choir girl , gives me chills.
Nothing can beat the original, Jodi is the best ❤❤❤
If it was anyone other than black no one questioning so much 😵💫
Nah Halle can sing for sure, we’re just nostalgic and have a hard time letting go of something we grew to love so long ago.
@@mariane7241
Everyone should know their place. If you were born black you can't play a white princess. Don't forget your place.
@@NikanorushkaDisgusting ass comment.
I like the original version because it’s easy for me to sing.
She's still got it!
You go Jodi!
Konanza oh yesss!!! She still sounds EXACTLY the same!!! I loooooove her!!!
she's so pretty and older
She never lost it 🥰
Jodi Benson is beautiful!
nearly 30 years later and Jodi's voice as Ariel still gives me chills.
+Gary Woods II It's not as pristine as it was 20 years ago. It was of key, and pitchy in this performance. At parts. Still beautiful, and this song is just amazing!
Not me
it been 18 years, but your right she is still amazing
imani smith You're*
+imani smith The movie came out in November 1989... making it almost 27 years old.
어떤 버전을 들어도 오리지널이 최고다... 최근에 이런저런 버전이 나와서 들어보다 귀 정화하러 왔습니다. 당신이 최고에요.
Her voice is so heavenly ✨✨💖
Watching her sing almost made me tear up I'm not even kidding
Same here not gonna lie
Im 34 male and i almost never cry...im tearing up hard ..ill admit it. Maybe because it reminds me when I was nine and nothing was terrible in the world.
29 and crying
God, her voice is beautiful.
Tgv ex
It sure is!
And my fav undersea toys are Disney princess Ariel/little mermaid and mermaid Barbie dolls, a submarine, a cruise ship, a toy boat and plush aquatic animals or/and sea creatures
Which makes me a big fan of Disney and Disney Pixar and Sometimes i take them with me to the indoor and outdoor pool at WDW or Disneyland
And I’ll swim with ‘em and do creative or imaginative play with ‘em whichever i prefer
Only a pro could give such an amazing, nuanced performance in the face of all those cameras and a rowdy audience. Jodi, you're amazing. A jewel.
Jodi benson pronunciates her words better and stronger. I will give her that. She sounds better! ❤
Wow she is the only one that her voice did not changed. Actually I love her the most. Little Mermaid ahhh such an amazing childhood memories. Tears in my eyes. Wish all this to come back.
PDC Ghada lea Salonga's voice hasn't changed
PDC Ghada susan egan (aka megara) didn't change at all. both have very similar voices ❤️ and very underrated
And Lea!
Jodi: What's that word again?
Random people in the back: STREET!
PhantomifyEponine 😂😂😂
Something I’d do. Can’t wait for Disney on ice
PhantomifyEponine
Jodi: whats that word again?
Peter Griffin: Bbbbirrd bird bird the Bird is the word 😂
After all these years her voice just never changes Jodi has the most beautiful voice and I feel like no one can replace her for the voice of Ariel.
Do you still think that .?
Wow, over 20 years later and this song is still as beautiful and meaningful as ever
By next year, it'll have been 30 years
1 - You can tell she is really singing and not lip syncing.
2 - I just now realized that Ariel only had one song during the movie. Strange.
Didn't realize that until I saw this comment! Too bad, she's amazing.
Jonathan Wright Probably that is because in the most scenes of cartoon Ariel wasnt able to speak as she lost her voice to that villain.
Jonathan Wright She had another song called "One Dance" But it was removed
Alexis Hitcher
On the wiki page for the soundtrack it says she reprises "Part of this World", so maybe she has the same song twice?
Jonathan Wright she does it happens after she rescues Eric
It's surprising...she actually sounds just like she did 27 years ago 😄
she's amazing, isn't she?
Wazowski's Apprentice Unlike Page O'Hara. 😞
Wool TheonlywaytogetanewthreadinaNemo Yep unfortunately...
Yishai Thau The poor unfortunate soul..........
@@missa5157 yes she is :)
Its embarrassing how many times I've repeated this song
😂
Same lol
I cried so bad to this, my mom passed away December 6th 2018 and we would sing this all the time. I miss her so much
Sorry for your loss :( at least you can come back and know she's listening and singing up there with you
I’m know it’s hard right now but you’ll be reunited with her one day. And she’ll show you the treasure trove of heaven with more dingle hopper thing a mabobs than you could ever imagine. Up where she walks. Up she’s run. Her halo glistening all day in the sun. You’ll both be free and again she’ll be...part of your world.
You can tell in the exact moment she starts singing, she becomes Ariel. He eyes and hair and facial expressions says it all. It's glad to see after 3 Little Mermaid movies she can still do it! Love you Jodie!
Jess Fae I think that also has to do with the fact that she was a Broadway performer before voicing Ariel. She said she had a problem giving the character emotion when voicing at first.
Also the tv series ☺
When Little Mermaid first came out it was huge the way Frozen is now.
Mike the best ya
Mike the bestTN tu un of
Mike the best do you know what that magical feeling is called? nostalgia. great modern disney films have the same amount of magic as the old ones, you're just blinded by nostalgia to see it.
Mike the best I never said it's nostalgia if you don't like Frozen. I said it's nostalgia if you hate on a new film while comparing it to an older film that is critically inferior. There's a difference.
Mike the best exactly. Which is not a valid reason to criticize a film in front of people. I can understand if you say you don't like the plot or anything like that, but saying older films are better is not a good enough excuse to criticize it.
she is beautiful.....her voice too. she is true princess
She is the best for this no doubt
I would attend this over ANY so-called pop concert. This I would find the unstoppable joy in me, and I'd be on my feet!
....how the hell are you still alive? Didn't you fall to your death?
Frostfire613
That was the movie adaptation of my life that you're talking about. I have been reborn and am enjoying my iPhone 6+ in place of the antiquated Palantirs.
Saruman the White I understand that the movie got your death wrong, but do you mean to tell me that the books we have now, which were recorded from the Red Book of Westmarch, written by Peregrin Took, a bystander when you were killed, are also wrong?
Joel Henderson
I've been sent back. No YOLO for the Istari.
Cheers?
Saruman the White
I realize that you are much older than me, and much wiser, so please forgive my impertinence, but why would you have been sent back? Gandalf was sent back by the valar so that he could complete his mission; but you betrayed your mission. There is no reason for you to be sent back, is there?
Just imagine guys, your mom being a disney princess's voice !
There's a sweet story about Ilene Woods who voiced Cinderella, as when she went to the premiere with her family her daughter would point at Cinderella on the screen and say "That's my mummy!" and an older lady, not knowing who the little girl, was remarked to her friend, "Isn't that sweet, that little girl thinks Cinderella is her mother!" and she really was :)
That be so awesome
Ip
Freya Mary that's very cute
My mother could be Ursula.... lol
One of the BEST Disney songs out there. RIP Howard Ashman. Who knows how many more awesome songs like this he could have created.
Best Ariel ever. Thanks for making my childhood character come to life. ,❤
I love the guy who shouts "feet!". I love how Jodi smiles warmly back. Don't worry sir, she's got this lol
I can't imagine how proud and grateful her children are whenever hearing this on the movie. She immortalized Ariel by this beautiful song :)
Marc Adams
Bring ur Parent to School day:
Teacher: who’s your parent little Jimmy?
Jimmy: The little mermaid :)
she it the best voice from arielle thanks for many fantastic dreams and time.
God shes beautiful and so talented! I love her!
Is it just me, or old disney princesses' song are better than Let it go?
***** I love classics ^__^ I hope that Frozen would become a classic too.
Not just you, let it go is trash compared to the songs from Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, etc.
I have no idea why everyone loves Let it Go so much. I personally prefer the reprise of "For the first in forever". Let it Go simply doesn't sound like a Disney song. Too "pop-ish"
Let It Go is a pleasant song with a nice piano intro, but Part of your world is exquisite and wondrous.
Nope same here!
Excuse me while I cry hysterically.
Same x
The last chorus where she sings "when's it my turn?" is well produced. Even though Imma straight 40 year old man and have little in common with Ariel, that chorus makes feel like there's something on the horizon beautiful enough to keep living for. 😮
I love both version of the song. They both have beautiful voice. But when I hear Jodi's voice it brings back childhood memories. 🥲 I will definitely support both versions of the movies. 👏🏽😊
her eyes are like the exact same as Ariel's
Disney often puts physical characteristics of their voice actors into their final character designs.
that's so cool!
I agree with u but i think it's not her eyes only. Her movement and her passion are the same too :)
Kittipanful She has the same smile and facial expressions.
that's a tradition that animators have-- to make the characters look like who voices them
it's amazing how she can still sound amazing at this age. By far one of the best Disney songs composed! end of discussion
I was just saying the same thing! Iconic.
She's only 54...not like she's 80
+theproperenglishman check that...still in her 40s here
She still looks up,like she’s still Ariel in her grotto ❤
Good comment
It is not Jodi Benson, it is Ariel herself. Her singing is magnificent.
One in the same
Absolutely!
damnn she killed it
She killed it because she IS the actual singer who did the original song for the movie.
Jesse Wong um.. i knew that already
musahalia styles If you knew that already, why would you say she killed it? Of course she's gonna "kill" it. Duh!
Jesse Wong By saying she killed it i assume its a good thing
Jesse Wong felt the need to say it.
Her voice... sounds sooo young. Ohmygosh.
The people saying the words to the song in the back made me smile so much. Saying “Feet” and “Street” ... what made me simile more is ... they were adults! They were probably young children when the movie came out and couldn’t help but finish the song with Jodi ... it made them feel like children again :)
Love both versions. I think the animated version will continue to stand the test of time. Thankfully, it’s not a contest and we can enjoy both 🥰
Whoa, she sounds beautiful, exactly like the movie! She really, really acts the song. I'm actually crying. I just commented on the Broadway version saying that I wasn't sure Jodi's version of the song would work well onstage... I was SO WRONG.
It's her song, she was the original voice and character of 16 year old Arial. 20 years later she sounds amazing like no difference.
Don't forget that Jodi is also a broadway actress.
I wish I was there to experience this so magical!
Lol your username. Awesome
omg totally me too! I love disney and I always will. this was part of my child hood
Kaedyn Potter why thank you :)
Ali Dawson hahaha never too old for disney :) & agreed i loved the little mermaid
You could tell the audience loves her performance 😭❤️👏🏻
why isn't this girl as famous as some singers who don't know how to sing, her voice is perfect and + live
*cough* taylor swift *cough*
Noa Sabbah yup
nostalgia!
aka Jacob Sartorious lol
That is actually true for most Disney singers/voice actors. Have you heard Judy Kuhn (voice of Pocahontas) live? She's amazing, as they all are.
hypnotized by the mermaid's voice... D: so awesome...
I know her voice is gorgeous... but can we talk about how well she aged? Damn, if I could only look like that when I get older....
THANK YOU SIR
Gotta be rich
KeepMovingOn helps when you're beautiful when young
Well, she does have mermaid blood. 😉
*I'd do her everyday!*
1:19 to 1:21 I love how she sang the part "What dyou call them.." and someone shouted "feet!" 😍😍😍
*actually I love how people interacts with her 😍
but I didn't hear anybody shouting "feet".
Shandana khan Sadiq mohmand no but you can see her pointing to someone and smiling
+Shandana khan Sadiq mohmand you could actually hear it if you pay a closer attention between those lines
DJsLps yes...I saw her pointing... But didn't hear any body shouting
This song is so beautiful and Jodi does such an amazing job with it. Oh, how I wish they'd still write like this.
Her smile is SO beautiful 😭😭
It's 80 degrees outside and I got a chill...just like I did in 1989!!!
it’s been 30 years and she’s still got it. wow😍
omg on point, so perfect, right in the heart
ALL THESE PRINCESS VIDEOS ARE MAKING ME SO. EMOTIONAL.
Oh yeah, the Belle one just made me so warm inside. I showed it to my mom because she loves beauty and the beast just as much as I do, she of course liked the video.
Wow. Her voice hasn't changed over the years. Amazing.
Ariel 😢❤❤❤❤
This is making me so emotional but this rendition is beautiful and with the new version out, just wanted to circle back and show appreciation for this classic! 🧜🏻♀️
She has such a princess voice ❤I love it😍
They should totally make a third movie as Melody as an adult.
Oh, I had no idea!
Gonna watch it right now, thank you~!
I personally didn't like the little mermaid 2. :S
Nah. Never liked Melody. Ariel's much better than her!
She still sounds the same not only singing but talking too.
Her voice is incredible omg. After all these years too!
Goosebumps
It's amazing how Disney brings people from all different ages together... It makes everyone feel young again, and adds the same nostalgic feeling to the kids. That's why I love it so much.
I am getting so teary eye... This played a big part of my life and how I felt when I was a little boy who felt like ariel.. THANK YOU SO MUCH JODIE!!
Her voice so young 😭😭
WOW, she sounds amazing and I'm going to cry.
She is phenomenal. Ariel has always been my favorite Disney princess, and to see Jodi sing this live is magical!!! She is wonderful!
Gosh, when the music drops out and it's just her and she's totally nailing it, and then the one or two awkward shutter sounds...and then even the photographers realize they're ruining a moment
a free trip to my childhood THANKS!!!
She even has the same smile as Ariel. Wow, what a performance!
Yes!!!
Okay, I'm watching this and crying and I have no idea why.
Me 2
It's the memories! They're getting to me! ;(
Nostalgia? Hahah. I know girl I feel you
Omg. I'm crying too. >.
Same here
my grandma (on my mom's mom) used to love it when my cousins and I would sing this song to her. We were so shy when we were young so it was like pulling teeth to get us to do it! Years later, she started getting pretty sick. She knew she didn't have long, so she made a trip out to see me and my family (we got as much family on my mom's side as possible to come out too. they live in B.C. and Manitoba. we live in Saskatchewan.) And we went out to our local bar, drank, and sang karaoke. We sang this song for her on the way home from the bar, lol. It was a happy, wonderful memory that I will always treasure and I have a feeling she did too. With that in mind, this song always made my eyes sting with a bit of happy tears, even though it's been a few years now since she passed. Love and miss you always, Grandma.
that made me cry. What a beautiful story!
😢😢😢😢

2:59 truly touched my heart. I remember Ariels voice sounding so sad cause she hoped she could be above the sea. In this, I could really tell Jodi was bringing that back.
Jodi Benson is the best. This performance brought me to tears.
I love to sing along with Jodi Benson because she is always taught me how to keep on moving keep on climbing for the star, my dreams will come true. Thank you for so much (Jodi Benson ) I love you too. God bless you.
I really love this song to the extreme.
That's soooooo interesting to watch
You're not
danielxmiller yeah!!!!
I think part of what makes this video make me smile is the fact that when jodi sings "whats that word? etc...the crowd answers and she just smiles:)
The little mermaid is the best❤️ I have an Ariel and flounder watercolor tattoo going across my ribs😊
she transported me back to my childhood :cc 💗🙌
