Everyone of a certain age is strolling down memory lane right about now! How can you not love this song when you cried right along with Alex when Ellen broke his heart? The happy footnote is that they they have been married in real life for over 30 years! ❤
Personally, I love that 2 teen TV idols of the 1980s [Michael J Fox and Kirk Cameron] both married their in-show girlfriends and are still happily married to this very day ❤
I bawled my eyes out watching that episode of Family Ties, and every time I hear this song, I am right back there in the throes of all that teenage angst. 😭💗😭
This is one of the very few songs that chokes me up. This is the Gen X version of Unchained Melody.
One of the most beautiful songs ever, and one of my favorites.
Are you speechless?!! Understand! I loved this song from the first time I heard it in the ‘80’s! Love your reaction!!!
Thanks for playing Billy Vera. All of us old dogs in our 70's love this song. The ladies loved this song. It's pure singing, no autotune,
great lyrics, great musicians in the Beaters. You don't hear music like this style these days. Great reaction, too.
Still loving this song
Classic Song Classic Singer
This is THE best torch song ever. Billy is nearly 80 years old now. With that voice, he should have been VERY big. I heard him sing this song in person about five years ago, and the pipes still work great.
Dang, I forgot just how good this is! So much emotion. Thanks for reacting!!
Great album all together ❤️
This is a once of lifetime performance
My favorite heartbreak song!!
One of the best songs ever!
One of the best 1-hit wonders ever.
I'm 55 and of course first learned this song when it was used years after Billy recorded it, in "Family Ties".
This song and particularly this version is one I've loved since the 1980s and I love that Michael J Fox and his future wife are still together to this day!
This song is my top favorite. Gets me deep in my gut and heart every single time I hear it.
If you stay ill sibtract 20 years from mt life has had me in a choke hold for 35 years
You really can’t do a breakup song any better than that. It’s perfect. And it’s live.
Four! Count 'em. Four saxophones. Not one. Not two. Not three. But FOUR!
This is one of those songs that no matter how many times I hear it I will always appreciate and revel in how beautiful and touching it is. It's just so, so good.
I'm baffled at the age of 61 never having heard of this singer or this song.
It was a one hit wonder I think
IMHO one of the best ever written .
I love how when you find these gems, I'm reminded how much I loved them back then...thank you
I Love This Song!! One of my all time favorite.
It was definitely everywhere after being featured at the end of that Family Ties episode
Yeah, he did that. I am old enough to remember when this first came out. I loved it then as I love it still now.
Great reaction love that song. So great live, gosh those instruments.
Showing my age here but I have this song on a 45 😂. I was obsessed with it back in the day. We all loved Michael J. Fox and were heartbroken along with him, well his character Alex.
❤
You chose the right version of this song!!! I was hoping that you'd react to this one!!!
Yeah. He does it better than anyone else.
@@lauradewey5748 I've never heard or even wanted to hear anyone else sing it!!!
What a song! I remember it well!
If this song doesn't make you cry...idk man.
First White Artist to play as a back up singer at the Apollo Theatre .
He wrote for a lot of popular singers
Love this song.
I'd give Anything to go back to that time..💔🙏
If you ever get a chance to see him, DO IT!!! He's fabulous. Been a fan for decades.
Are you the angel that was dating frank?
Problem is that he's 80 now and not performing much.
As if the song, the piano and singing wasn't great enough - those 4 saxophones are just filthy ❤💛🔥🔥🔥
This song was HUGE; it was featured in a very popular sitcom at the time, Family Ties. I just remember it being on every station, all iver MTV too!!
Billy Vera also did a few TV themes later. A couple of the more popular ones were for the shows "Empty Nest" and "The King of Queens".
Thank you SalvoG for your reaction to this incredible piece of music.
I loved this song on the first time around. Never watched Family Ties. ☮️❤️😎
Ooohhhh a classic right here. Always will see the train station from Family Ties in my minds eye.
It’s been many years since I heard this song & there is no way I am crying 😢
❤ One of my all time favorites !
This song is phenomenal. I am glad you are watching this versus the one on the show. I think I’m the only person that never watched Family Ties even though it was on during my teen years
Those must be The Beaters on that stage with him.
He wrote this song years earlier but never finished it until he went through some real life heartache of his own.
Saw Billy and the Beaters several times at a little club in Santa Monica call, At my Place. Very very good live, he can really sing and the band is great, met billy and most of the band as the club was a small venue. Billy is very entertaining with stories and has a great sense of humor. One of the best live acts I've witnessed and I've been to a lot of concerts.
OH! BILLY!
I used to know him when he was in the movie Buckaroo Banzai. I worked at Fox during that time,in the art department. We had this awesome party at the Sepulveda dam.
"The Wonder Years" also caused many prior songs to "chart" when they were featured in various episodes.
I loved The Wonder Years. My oldest brother (13 y.o. in 1968) told me how spot on they got it. I was too young to remember that time period.
I had forgot about this song and instantly i was 22 and driving around listening to it on the radio my relationship at that time. Thank you fir your review❤ ❤❤
Yep, many people of a certain age are now in their feels, with either their own irl memories or scenes from "Family Ties" flashing in their heads. Thanks for dragging up the feelings associated with that one! (She says, with both a small smile and a little sadness. Was not expecting those specific memories today! 🤦🏻♀️)
wow thank you for making my day again !!! This song was a huge part in a certain chapter in my life and you just brought me back :)
I have always loved this song & I could not listen to it for many years after a breakup with a person who I was so in love with. Came across this song 4 years ago and I love it just as much.
Wow....haven't heard that one in a while. Great song.
Had never heard this song until hearing it on Family Ties. Like many others, I went out and bought the album the next day. The whole album was great!
Billy became very popular during this time. He performed on the tonight show starring Johnny Carson. He also had an appearance singing some music in the 1987 movie "Blind Date" starring Bruce Willis, Kim Basinger and John Larroguette. From the aforementioned, you'll definitely want to check out some of his other songs... "Oh What A Nite", "Here Comes The Dawn Again" and "Let You Get Away".
This was my mom's all time favorite song.
This is one of those lump in your throats and hold-back-the-ugly-cry songs.
That was in-cre-di-ble! I had only ever heard it on the radio and it did nothing for me. Another example of the live version being better than the studio version.
My ex boss played drums in this band. He’s not in this video though.
Classic memorable tune … Unlike today’s techno, forgettable songs. No auto tune stuff …
Sorta reminds me of Josh Grobin getting his start as a high school kid singing at the prom on 'Ally McBeal' back in the 90's

Oh it is so cool that you heard this! Can I recommend? Jeffrey Osborne “Stay with Me Tonight” please and thank you
Great song and artist, Jeffrey Osborne.
I don't know why but I never caught on to this song.
Love this song.
