Hello, thanks for great review. I just bought that chainsaw do to some pruning, got fed up with using manual saws all the time. Got it on sale for a great price with free 2.5 Ah battery and charger. Since I never used a chainsaw before, I'm not sure if oiling is working properly on mine. I got a bottle of oil included, filled the reservoir and did couple of test cuts. All seams to be working fine, but the chain looks dry to me, I don't see any oil or feel it on my finger when I run it on chain. I also tried running the saw close to cardboard as mentioned in manual, but didn't get any oil spray visible.
Mille mercis for your video. I've discovered that the packaging of the chain fitted quite perfectly to maintain the body of the chainsaw during the assembly. Is it a coincidence ? I don't know, but I do have pictures to prove it ! Many thanks from France 😀
Nice video. I´ve got mine two days ago and I didn't expect to put it on such demanding work as I just did. You are completely right about the anti-kickback feature: it does limit a lot of its ability to cut larger logs or branches. I'm also about to extract mine. Overall it's a small giant. Happy with the purchase.
Great review Russell, very impressive. A few back cuts in first would stop the branches splitting on you. Take a rest and have a cold beer, you deserve it.
What a GREAT demo. I too have a Bosch Drill Driver with two 18 V batteries, so I was hoping Bosch made a mini chainsaw. I am a 5 foot or 152.4 centimetre woman, would the mini chain saw be light enough for me to handle? Thanks ...
Does better than I would have expected from a cordless, especially the diameters. Looks like you've got quite an estate there, no wonder you don't want corded. I wonder if the tip guard is really to stop plunge cuts which might overload the motor. You're right some will use it one handed.
@@RussellPlatten Yes I noticed. At the moment I can reach most things with our ancient (corded) 12" Black and Decker on the ground anyway, but in future... maybe.
One more question, you removed the safety tip, but I noticed other brands of Mini chainsaws have a totally different safety system... Would you mind commenting on the over all safety of the Bosch Mini Chainsaw with that unusual restrictive safety tip you removed ? .... Thanks
The safety feature is there for a reason and prevents kick back. But, it also restricts the cutting capacity and overall versatility of the saw. If you remove it you are removing a safety feature. I have used chainsaws a lot over the years and have been on the receiving end of kickback using a 16" petrol chainsaw. I needed 13 stitches to my head and was very lucky as it did not pierce my skull. This saw has a slow chain speed and stops very quickly when the trigger is released and I was comfortable removing the tip. It does not have the normal breaking system which physically clamps the blade in the event of a kick back. The tip completely prevents kickback, which is caused by the chain at the tip of the saw riding up the cut at high speed and throwing the saw back towards the operator. If you remove it you are adding more risk. I did it because I wanted the versatility, but you must make your own decision. :-)
Cool review as always Russell...Looks pretty good for a battery operated chainsaw 🙂 Hope all is well with you and your wife and your enjoying the summer 🙂
Quite impressive, I've just bought a cheap hawksmore 18v 4.0ah £120 from toolstation and I think it's great . I thought it would be a toy compared to my big sthil but for trimming out it's a contender to rival my mac110 top handle .
It is fixed on with rivets and you have to drill them out using a drill bit that is slightly wider than the rivets Ian. I ended up using a dremel with a grinding tool to finish removing them if I remember rightly. If you do too, make sure you clean the bar thoroughly before using. :-)
Mine has been stored on a shelf for a few weeks and there is a very small oil deposit on the shelf, less than a drop. I suspect that it was residue from the bar. :-)
For my father-in-law it will be perfect. Thanks for the video.
Many Thanks Russell, you're a great teacher. I just assembled one that I has just bought the way you are teaching us. Now I need the oild.
Glad I could help William! :-)

Great review, thanks. If you were knackered after using up a 1.5mah battery, then my 2.5mah battery should last me days :)

I think it is a great little saw! :-)
How do you remove the anti-kickback feature ?
@@KristianDuusstergaard u just unscrew it
Excellent review. I will be removing the kickback cap also.
It is a fine saw! :-)
Thank You for the great review. Just bought one ! Any tips on how to remove the anti kickback positioned at the tip?
thanks for the vid ! regards from Holland!

Thanks for the test. This Bosch is great. Regards
Thank you, Bosch is great! :-)

Yes Pauline it is not heavy! :-)
Great job 👏🏼 thanks for the video and greetings from Germany 🙋🏻♂️
Thanks for watching. Greetings back from the UK! :-)
Great vids on this Bosch chainsaw. Bought one today. Cheers.
I used mine a couple of weeks ago David. It is very handy! :-)

I am impressed with the saw's performance Emma. I used it one handed a couple of times myself! :-)

@@RussellPlatten Thanks Russell for that detailed & thorough reply to my question.
Awesome job. Thanks!
I used it today to cut a few overhanging branches down. :-)
I’m surprised that Bosch doesn’t have a 18V chainsaw except this one.
I reckon they would sell if Bosch manufactured one Justin. I love this mini chainsaw. :-)
Thank youI for the review i am thinking to buy one
Glad I could help! :-)

Very good review
You seem to have a very large garden
Yes, it is a very large garden Leslie! :-)

I like mine. It is quiet, light and very effective at lopping reasonably large diameter branches. The battery life is very impressive too Kevin! :-)
@@RussellPlatten yes light and handles well , I'm trying to get a spare battery for mine but toolstation don't stock them as yet .
Maybe go on a proper chainsaw course. For your own safety and knowledge. They are very educational courses. I do recommend
Cordless and chewing through huge thick tree branches you'd think you'd need a petrol saw for. Impressive.
It is impressive! :-)
Ciao gentilmente mi può dire come si toglie la protezione sulla lama ..perché hai ragione limita i tagli grazie
Can the batter be used with the Bosch blue tools or juts the diy green versions
These batteries are only suitable for the home and garden range of equipment Jason. :-)
How do you take off the anti kickback feature?

Must admit I was impressed as well. Good to see old school, f**k the ppe and get stuck in about it🤣🌲👌
LOL - Way too hot for any of that Brian! :-)
Thank you sir.
Glad I could help! :-)
İki adet batarya ile mükemmel bir cihaz oluyor kesim vede kullanışı harika tavsiye ederim mükemmel bir alet
Kabul ediyorum. İyi bir testere. :-)
How did you remove that annoying tip guard??
I had to drill out the two rivets. :-)
This chap needs to be taught how to use a chain saw correctly!
He does John! :-)
My Bosch chain has got an oilleak when i store it . is this common ?
