I fell in love with that bow at first sight - back then it was still called the RCX17. Sadly every time I saved up the money for this beauty life happened and I had to spend the money on something else more important than my hobby. Still hoping that one day I'll own one...
I got this bow this December and it is phenomenal. Super accurate, fast, looks fantastic. This is definitely a luxury bow, so if you are willing to swing the luxury price tag it doesn't disappoint.
I just purchased this very bow after seeing your review and Grizzly Jim’s review. This bow is amazing and feels wonderful to hold and shoot, absolutely nothing I can find fault with in this bow.
Bought the riser for use as a hunting bow, I liked the deflect of the riser as I feel it adds to its stability. This video is correct when stating this bow has less vibration than cheaper bows and as a result it is quieter upon release, which is a significant positive attribute for a hunting bow. Also more stable than one would expect from a 17" riser
I purchased a second hand RCX-17 Black and finally got Arrows to match it. Most of the staff at the Archery Store were eager to pick it up and try it out. It's a beautiful bow, the power from it is phenomenal. I'm not that talented with barebow but I wanted a barebow other than my chunky Olympic style recurve, the "Black" came up for the right money and it was money well spent. If you ever have the opportunity to purchase one that's in good condition. Do not hesitate it is a fantastic bow.
what you got there is the rcx17, the black Wolf says black Wolf on both the limbs, and interesting fact about this bow is that the nano tube carbon they have used in the limbs actually absorbes vibration, at least that's what the people from win and win say hehe
I trust manufacturers to report dimensions, specifications, etc. but rarely do I trust the literature that makes claims that are difficult to quantify. One quantification that I have yet to see is exactly how and how much carbon nanotube is used in the resin they boast. I mean, that stuff is EXPENSIVE. I mean, Goldschlager has gold in it, but not enough to amount to anything more than a glint in the bottle. How much carbon nanotube is required to make a performance difference in a recurve limb??
first and foremost I love your videos. I think they're amazing. thanks for all the info. any chance I can request a review for the Win & Win Black elk?
I bought one of these a couple of years ago. It's a W&W branded Black Wolf. 60 inch tip to tip, 45lb. I use 500 spine Easton Axis trad carbon arrows, 100 grain tips, 29 1/5 inch length, 4 inch feather fletchings. My draw is 29 inches and I shoot off the shelf. it is a glorious bow to shoot, no hand shock and a nice looker. And boy, is it a fast shooter - YES. Expensive - yes, but a beautiful bow - absolutley. My other bow is a WiaWis Olympic recurve but when I get tired of target shooting, the Black Wolf comes out and we have fun in the woods. Only problem is t'other half shoots left handed & my bow is right handed! I think I'll earn some browny points getting her a LHS black Wolf for a prezy......... This is a NICE bow........
@paul wazzer. Did you bareshaft tune the 500’s. Just ordered a 60”@45#. My draw is 27”. Curious about the bh, and np you ended up with. I ended up going with a different string and a accutune adjustable side plate. I plan on shooting off of shelf. Haven’t decided on what material to use. Any recommendations? Ty
@@milomilkman I didn't need to shoot bare shaft. They were going exactly where I was aiming. The other half got her LHS black wolf 45lb but due to her shorter draw (27inch) we had to put more weight on the points - 125 grain. They now shoot straight and she has got some very good results with it. I make my own bow strings and the type of material I use is BCY8190 fast flight with angel majestey end loops. Hope this helps......
Making my way into the ilf selections and have had my eye on the Samick Discovery or the Hoyt Satori, but after this video now looking at the black wolf... would the black wolf be considered ideal as a hunting bow? Rugged enough and able to handle weather conditions?
I love this bow but I bought it used and could not bring myself to pay full price for it. The deal breaker for me is that it doesn't have "sight" bushings which for a hunting bow is used 99% of the time for a hunting bow quiver. I know there are other types of bow quivers I can use but they have gotten to be expensive and some are heavy and the ones I can attach on the sight/quiver bushings are attached together so you can remove the quiver and arrows in one piece when you get to your blind if you don't like to shoot with it on. W&W really dropping the ball on that and not knowing their market, very frustrating.
I just bought this bow for hunting in Spain. Got the 62” 40# limbs but my draw is 29.5” and I will adjust the tiller to give me a couple extra up to 46#. Dying to get my hands on it snd get it out in the country on a hunt!
I wonder how this one compares to the Hoyt Satori. They seem very similar. I own a Satori and the only drawback is the weight of the riser, although the heavier weight does give a bit more stability to the bow as compared to a lighter riser. I'm curious to see how this one feels. What do you think NU? Do you tend to prefer a lighter riser?
Thank's NUSensei, I have been looking for a new multi purpose bow. I currently have a Bearpaw Hopi for hunting but I would like to have the ability to have a hunting bow that can take arrow rests. I love carbon bows and was looking at the WNS FC100 to use for hunting and field. I am 6'1" and I have a full 32" draw so my Hopi stacks up to 52Lbs. Do you think it would be better to get the FC100 and have the ability to put sights on it or the Black Wolf? I am so torn now between the two bows???
Hmm.. It very much reminds me of my Hoyt Buffalo. (Same price too I think). I'd be very interested in testing the black wolf out for comparison. I don't like the look though (or more specifically I think the modern look is ruined by the wood grip).
hi there thanks for the vid , a question below .. is it still one of the best high ends, after 3 years with the samick sage i would like an upgrade that is a bare-bow nothing Olympic and i ran into this and it being a win & win any advice @NUSensei or fellow archers i am on 35 pounds happy with it and a 26 draw length doing alright on a 20 Meter and 15 M target shooting
That's one sexy bow, but, how about something which costs a bit less second hand, like a hoyt buffalo? or something similar with short 17" aluminum risers and composite limbs made from wood and glass fibers with ilf fittings?
I'm looking to upgrade my recurve and had my eye on this for some time. How does the grip compare to that of the samick sage? I have a sage and my hands guys around the grip nicely
That is a great review of that bow and someone like myself would love to have one like that, but it is too expensive for my money. I am new to bows and will have to get one which is cheaper, yet have quality built into it also. I wonder if Ben Pearson is still in business producing bows since I would like to buy one of their brand if it is made in the U.S.A.
Hi, beautiful bow. As I understand it belongs to a group of hunting bows vs target bows. These tend to be smaller. This Black wolf tops at 62''. Similar to an also beautiful Hoyt Satori risers. My bad luck is that I shoot 68'' - I have a draw length pf 30''. For some reason all the beautiful well designed recurve bows I find, are from the hunting group and are too small for me. I know you said that we can shoot from smaller bows, but I'm worried about limb stacking. Is me (a 68'' shooter) shooting from a 62'' bow a big problem - that's 6'' difference after all? Or is it nothing and I should just go ahead and find a bow I like?
Too expand my question - I know I won't damage a bow like that, you made that clear in your video about too small bows. My question is about my shooting comfort. I'm worried that at some point I'll just stop shooting that 60'' or 62'', because shooting from a 68'' is just so much more pleasent. Is a difference in shooting a 6'' too small bow noticeable?
I’m currently shooting a basic Samick sage “62 and gotten pretty comfortable with it , just thinking would a “60 be best for hunting? Would it make a difference? Or what would be the difference? Any help would be great as I’m new to archery
Hey, i'm having a bit of problem getting hold of Win & Win, do you have any idea of what the maximum poundage of limbs that the riser could take? I.e; would it be able to take 85lbs limbs?
Sounds interesting until you mentioned the short riser. Guess in a hunting scenario it would be easier to carry, but, me having a 32.5" draw, I'm probably better off going larger than my current 25" Cartel riser at that price point. Still nice to hear about various bows out there, however, as I've never heard of this one before.
Man, I'm really glad you made this review I'm thinking since a year to buy this one to step up from backyard to starting competition, but there is just one small issue, what category to compete in. I shoot traditional or as some say instinctive, that is why this one is so appealing, on the same site I'm in EU and have no idea what IFAA category would fit this bow the most, what would you say?
Shorter, smoother, fucking faster! But a little less forbiving, carbon + short bow is not a forbiving set up... My Black Wolf shoots at 245fps average with 60#@32,85". I have à friend that has a Buffalo 60#@28,5" that shoot at 190fps. His old 1983 bear kodiak do 188fps average.
Awesome bow. I am missing a few bits in the review: can it be shot of the shelf (without plunger/rest)? are there replacement grips ? I see they are screwed in, so I guess they can be removed by the user. The price is actually very good for such a high-tech barebow.
That bow can be shot off the shelf, but you may need to "beef up" the side plate quite a bit. The RCX17/Black Wolf is cut way past center. The grip can be replaced, but I don't know if any "standard" Win & Win grip will fit or if you need a special grip for this one.
Good product but : a) riser comes only in one size (17") so it's not possible to make a popular 64" bow with long ILF limbs. b) it's possible to shoot from the shelf but there are no options offered to adjust the cut of the shelf (centered or passed) so you have to DIY. That's a negative for a 500usd riser. For both these reasons I finally bought a 19" Hoyt Satori riser and took out my old SF elite limbs that wanted to take some fresh air :D
I only bow hunt and I went the 19" satori riser with medium 65lb black wolf limbs. They are far nicer than the Hoyt satori limbs. The black wolf riser was just way to lite for me I need some weight in a hunting bow. But that's just me I guess.
The way the bow sounds when you fire it, it should be called the black lion. Very nice, I think I'll leave this bow til later, after I've practiced with a beginner.
I use a Hoyt satori 19” riser medium black wolf limbs. 65lb 200 FPS hunting set up.very happy. Black wolf riser grip wasn’t for me and riser was to short and most importantly way to light but that’s just me.
The Black Wolf is too expensive now IMHO. I bought it around 2 years ago when it was still known as the RCX-17 and got it for way under $700 - back then it was quite competitive in its price segment. And don't get me wrong - it's an absolutely superb bow for those who like traditional shooting and yet the benefits of modern technology and engineering.
I have the full bow. Meanwhile I also replaced the string with a fast flight one and instead of shooting off the shelf I use an arrow rest with a plunger (no stabilizer though since I am doing semi-casual shooting in the woods and value mobility over barebow tournament performance). I am on the lookout for higher poundage limbs now though and won't be getting the RCX/Black Wolf ones since I find them to be overpriced. To kinda-sorta match the bow colors and the nice carbon finish I will probably be getting the SF Archery Velocity limbs.
This was one of the risers I was looking at but ended up going with the Satori, since their in the same tier I'm always interested to compare the two. If you like the carbon look I recommend trying Uukha's limbs. I recently got a set of Uukha Ex1 Evo2 Curve Recurve Limbs, great limbs very quiet once I found my right brace height for my rig.
Thanks for the tip with the limbs. They do indeed look as if they would be a match. Don't like the look of the Satori riser though - getting too much of an Olympic Recurve vibe from it and the RCX17 / Black Wolf is lighter due to being all carbon. Purely on the aesthetic level I like the look of the Hoyt Buffalo risers - although Satori are one notch up in quality.
can tell youre struggling to pull that thing lol.. kinda how i feel on my smaller bow. what size is this one? my main target is 70" 40 lbs for targets..hunting 62" 50lbs might be nice to upgrade my psx stalker lol.. but it is ILF the riser you seem to praise very much why not just sport the riser with your W&W 45s? i could throw my SF's on it lol... get some extra long limbs? at least for targets but for hunting can you add a sight? its a high end hunting ILF bow pretty friggin cool lol. would like to know what its capable of as to attachments
yep you are pretty over bowed there, can be a great hunting/3D rig. (I know u commented on arrows in ur vid.) Also the limbs/bow is so loud cuz those aluminum arrows are too darn light for that recurve, should have at least 8 gpp for #50, but a 500 grain arrow would be nice for great KE and a legit FoC on arrow. You are almost pretty much dry firing it there, don't void warranty folks..
Nah XD 6gpp is well, with carbon arrows and string silencer, it's perfect. This bow is really quiet, i think that the resonance of the room where the test is done...
😂 some people crack me up... the arrow he says he is using is heavier gpi than the one you recommend. How would you even begin to know if he's overbowed, i see no evidence watching the video...
omg. I didn't expect u to make a review of a hunting bow. OMG. u a hunter? I was so glad you didn't exclude the black wolf just because it is a hunting bow. thx
current W&W risers like InnoMAX or WiaWis have the same keyhole style dowel receiver. I have Inno MAX for about three years and it has same limb pocket setup.
If you get a chance to compare this to the Hoyt Satori that would be awesome, its really hard to find people who have shot them both. (I realize your a W&W guy and may not have access to one though)
The only thing I don't like about my Black Wolf is how loud it is. I glued down some felt where the limbs connected to the riser. As well the underside of the bolts the keep the limbs in place (tiller adjusters? I forget what they are called). I ordered Bow Wrap camo patterns for the limbs so when I'm hunting the actual carbon fiber of the limbs won't get scratched up. And I also glued felt to the bow wrap area where the strings sits on the limb (no glue on the actual carbon limbs itself). The bow is much quieter without any Ft.per.Sec. reduction. All in all, It is a great bow. Super light. Very little recoil when shooting. But if you are a hunter, be prepared to silence the $H!t out of it.
Nice of your buddy to let you show us that sweet bow, thanks all round. I'm sure you will be coming over to the Dark Side and shooting 3D sooooooon Murhahahahha
I just ordered this bow today. Is there a particular rest you would recommend for it? Does it require a plunger and a rest that works with one? And if I shoot off the shelf, will I need to build it out any? Thanks for the great video!
I think The Black Wolf's limb pocket is the norm for all high end W&W risers since Innomax. They say its stronger than the traditional slide-in style pocket. I don't know about that, but after getting used to the newer style pockets, the older style feel a bit flimsy. There's nice click-click sound and it feels like a bolt of a rifle to attach the limbs to the riser.
Damn where was this bow when I went for the Hoyt Gamemaster II last year ... I am replacing that one with a WNS FC-100 because tournament rules do not allow for the gamemaster to be shot, to wide when unstrung. Also, where does one find this and similar bows? Its not shown on the official W&W Homepage
Who wants to loan NUSensei a TradTech Lobo 17" Carbon ILF Riser for comparision to this Win & Win Black Wolf Recurve Riser ???They are both Carbon; they are both the same price for Riser Only.
so I'm getting into archery and in another video NUsensei made he says that if you know for sure your going to be getting into archery for the long term you would be smarted to drop more money on a good bow, is this that bow? NUsensei even has a video on avoiding cheap equipment
The Black Wolf is more like a luxury bow. You can enjoy archery with something half this price, but like with luxury buys, it's a beautiful thing to shoot, if this is your sort of thing.
wow, Nusensei thank you so much for the quick reply. I will admit I am very partial to this design, i would also like to ask then if there are any other bows with this look or a cheaper alternate model? If not would you have any suggestions for an ILF bow? I intend to take whatever bow i get hunting
thank you NUsensei, I will turn my attention towards those bows to see if they can't dissuade me from overindulging ^_^ post note- I shoot lefty. sadly the discovery is off the table for me since its righty only.
They're both very different beasts. The Bear Takedown feels like a very high quality traditional bow, while the Black Wolf is a distinct modern sporty feel. It comes down to *why* I would shoot the bow rather than the feeling.
Well I'm getting back into archery after about 15 years away. And while the sage has worked well for me to get back into form, I'd like to get something higher end this spring. This and the bear takedown are my top picks at the moment, though the Hoyt Satori looks very nice as well (but a bit higher price tag, and between you and the Koreans at Rio, W&W looks pretty nice) I'm currently just shooting in my backyard, but I'm interested in finding a club in the future.
can you do video on Amazon $54 allum bow ...they look nice.. idk ?i nvr pay more than $100.. no way .. cant justify cost when people hungry.. homeless. ect.. ..when i was kid/
Well, the power is choosable, you can get an 62" on 60lbs and you will penetrate cooking pots like a buter, but will cost you accuracy...so pick a gold middle point..about 40lbs on 60",will do fine..also this bow is not for beginers..you wont feel difference between an 150$ one and this if you dont have few years practice...so ,save some money, they are good quality units on a 150-200 $ range...they are more suitable for hunting as on a field you will probably do some cosmetic damage to your bow,and you definetly wouldn't like it happening to a 800$ unit..
I fell in love with that bow at first sight - back then it was still called the RCX17. Sadly every time I saved up the money for this beauty life happened and I had to spend the money on something else more important than my hobby. Still hoping that one day I'll own one...

no doubts rcx 17 is superb riser. the sound of it being shot is unmatched in my experience (was with uukha)
who wants to lend me 800 bucks
I'm looking to upgrade my recurve and had my eye on this for some time. How does the grip compare to that of the samick sage? I have a sage and my hands guys around the grip nicely

You can shoot Barebow, or Bowhunter with this bow, but not Trad Recurve. (TR is for wooden risers only). It is a very smooth but high performance bow.
So how does it compare with the Hoyt Buffalo or new Satori?
Shorter, smoother, fucking faster! But a little less forbiving, carbon + short bow is not a forbiving set up...

Yes, it's designed to be shot off the shelf. I imagine the grip is replaceable.
That bow can be shot off the shelf, but you may need to "beef up" the side plate quite a bit. The RCX17/Black Wolf is cut way past center. The grip can be replaced, but I don't know if any "standard" Win & Win grip will fit or if you need a special grip for this one.
thanks for the info.
Hi buddy just wondering what arrow rest is on the black wolf? And where can I get one ? Cheers
Does the riser feel more like aluminum or wood riser as for cold temps
I only bow hunt and I went the 19" satori riser with medium 65lb black wolf limbs. They are far nicer than the Hoyt satori limbs. The black wolf riser was just way to lite for me I need some weight in a hunting bow. But that's just me I guess.
This is a lovely bow, I just wish the designer's would have added the sight hole bushing's, so you could mount a sight.
Did you get the full bow or just the riser?
Purely on the aesthetic level I like the look of the Hoyt Buffalo risers - although Satori are one notch up in quality.
can tell youre struggling to pull that thing lol.. kinda how i feel on my smaller bow. what size is this one? my main target is 70" 40 lbs for targets..hunting 62" 50lbs might be nice to upgrade my psx stalker lol.. but it is ILF the riser you seem to praise very much why not just sport the riser with your W&W 45s? i could throw my SF's on it lol... get some extra long limbs? at least for targets but for hunting
can you add a sight? its a high end hunting ILF bow pretty friggin cool lol. would like to know what its capable of as to attachments
pls...small loan of $800
yep you are pretty over bowed there, can be a great hunting/3D rig.
Covers for the limbs= It's so fluffy I'm gonna die!
Is the sight window tall enough to do a chin anchor?
I just bought it!!!! Wish me luck
How's the bow treating you?
Out of curiosity, how many people ask you about Howard Hill?
It seems like old 'legends' are often forgotten in alot of growing/popular sports.
If you get a chance to compare this to the Hoyt Satori that would be awesome, its really hard to find people who have shot them both. (I realize your a W&W guy and may not have access to one though)
Nice shooting mate. You look good.Love the wolf too.
Can you provide the brand name of the wrist sling?
Thanks for the review. I've been coveting this one for a couple of years but haven't bitten yet. I think I'll bite soon.
Hi, what plunger and Arrow rest is fitted in this setup
Anyone know what stores have this in stock? Looking around for it, but nothing to be found.
How much stacking does one have if there draw length is 31” ?
Hey nusensei, I know, old video..but.. what is the arrow rest that is mounted on the blackwolf? Its not a plunger button, what is that? Thx
It's a stick-on rest. I don't remember the exact model.
I think that's the most beautiful bow iv ever seen
Nice of your buddy to let you show us that sweet bow, thanks all round. I'm sure you will be coming over to the Dark Side and shooting 3D sooooooon Murhahahahha
How does this bow compare to a Hoyt Durado? they look rather similar
Thanks for the review NU,great looking bow.Is the arrow rest & plunger from Win & Win also?
The rest is a DIY bit from the owner.
Thanks mate, what would you recommended for a Martin Panther. Thanks for your time
it's a NAP Centerest flipper. designed to be quiet
Thanks Thorin appreciate your reply mate, are you the owner of the bow?
more the cohabiter but yes
Haha, creepy looks you give the camera when shooting the bow ;) Nice review though! Keep em coming!
Haha yeh those looks happen every time He shot a doozy , I can tell by the sound of the arrow hitting target 😂
I just ordered this bow today. Is there a particular rest you would recommend for it? Does it require a plunger and a rest that works with one? And if I shoot off the shelf, will I need to build it out any? Thanks for the great video!
I don't have any specific recommendations. Use what you think will work well for you (or look nice for you).
Well...I personally don't really like the look of modern recurve bow, but this black beauty looks gorgeous to me.
Custom performance hunting or barebows. Are 1500 dollars now. So the ultra modern Black Wolf is impressive.
Received one of these yesterday - both riser and limbs now made in China.
What arrow rest is used on this bow?
Damn where was this bow when I went for the Hoyt Gamemaster II last year ... I am replacing that one with a WNS FC-100 because tournament rules do not allow for the gamemaster to be shot, to wide when unstrung.
Also, where does one find this and similar bows? Its not shown on the official W&W Homepage
The official page lists their target products. Their trad line is under the Black label (www.winandwinblack.com)
NUSensei Thank you for the link! Will keep it in mind for the future ^^
Who wants to loan NUSensei a
TradTech Lobo 17" Carbon ILF Riser for comparision to this Win & Win Black Wolf Recurve Riser ???They are both Carbon; they are both the same price for Riser Only.
both made by win and win as are the limbs by tradtech as far as i am aware
Are they?
I had no idea at all.
Teach us tips for aming, sensei
what is the material of you re target?
so I'm getting into archery and in another video NUsensei made he says that if you know for sure your going to be getting into archery for the long term you would be smarted to drop more money on a good bow, is this that bow? NUsensei even has a video on avoiding cheap equipment
The Black Wolf is more like a luxury bow. You can enjoy archery with something half this price, but like with luxury buys, it's a beautiful thing to shoot, if this is your sort of thing.
wow, Nusensei thank you so much for the quick reply. I will admit I am very partial to this design, i would also like to ask then if there are any other bows with this look or a cheaper alternate model? If not would you have any suggestions for an ILF bow? I intend to take whatever bow i get hunting
Samick Bear Hunter / Samick Discovery is very similar.
thank you NUsensei, I will turn my attention towards those bows to see if they can't dissuade me from overindulging ^_^
post note- I shoot lefty. sadly the discovery is off the table for me since its righty only.
What arrow rest is that ?
I bought one, excellent bow
Would be cool if they made this as a one piece. A traditional bow with modern materials.
So, having shot both of them, do you prefer the Black wolf or your Bear Takedown?
F U guys. After 2 years of thinking - I ordered mine yesterday :D
The main problem, like every winwin Black or compound bow, is that it is stupidly hard or impossible to get them in left hand !!!
where do you buy your bows?
can you do video on Amazon $54 allum bow ...they look nice.. idk ?i nvr pay more than $100.. no way .. cant justify cost when people hungry.. homeless. ect.. ..when i was kid/
the limb pocket is the same as the nano max.
0:23 That look!
Thank you
Do you powder your release tabs?
I personally don't, but it's something that many people that can help with a smoother release.
what are thise nerf guns on the back ?
i am instant in love.
can you change the handle? I hate non low grips. can u change it? thx
CARBON NANOTUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUBES
It has a window too small for gap shooting.
Sorry for my stupidity but this bow is the most powerful?and this bow is made as well for hunting?...Thanks
@@mihaipuscas919 thank you very much bro i really appreciate your comment...all the best :)
