So. Damn. Good. Keep going...the climb to TH-cam fame shall be glorious and filled with delightful stories and scooby snacks of wisdom that will create value for us out here trying to figure it all out. Scratch that, it just did.
Great video! Shared it with some founder friends of mine, one of which I convinced just last week to not go searching for VC money. This raise first culture encourages founders to concentrate on raising vs. developing a great product. Subscribed! (Also, forget TikTok, TH-cam forever)
You are so funny with your first video. Congratulations! I'll be sharing because I love what you had to say about lifestyle business versus a venture backed business. As a TH-camr myself (62 videos and counting since the beginning of the year), so much of it gets easier. But, like you, I struggle with keeping my videos to 6 minutes. I am lucky if I can keep them to 10 minutes. You aren't my target market but you might enjoy my videos. Tuesday's was on angel investing. Saturday's will be on social media and branding (my experience).
This is great. Didn't know that I want to know this until I watched it. Plus, slightly jarring that you're laid-back, self-deprecating and motivated to help others learn the basics about your field...not how I envisioned (my stereotype of) a VC. Visited Brad's site after hearing him on Tim Ferris podcast, which lead me to this. Keep up the good work, I'm looking forward to parts 2, 3.
Dude you killed it. I hope you continue this nonsense which is funny and informative at the same time. I have been amazed in the ag industry that the ag tech ventures spend more time raising money then they do acquiring customers. It is time consuming. Cheers
It's great to see VCs who are also educators. And on that same note, please don't edit out your digressions, it's nice to be able to follow your train of thought. The way you went over the Dentist example step by step was illustrative.
When you're kids are learning their ABC you teach them never to take candy from a stranger, when they're learning their MBA you teach them never to take money from a V C. Yeah, that works
This is awesome. It's a topic I've been riffing on in my personal writing, now coming out of six years working in VC and VC backed startups, and feeling a strong pull in the other direction. What's your main objective with these videos?
Well - great stuff but it is not like there are only two types of businesses - lifestyle or vc backed :) it is more like regular business vs vc funded tech startup style business. In fact about 90% of businesses are in the first category. Also tons of big huge companies started out as regular businesses and just grew really big - they are not “lifestyle” (a favorite vc term to put down any business that does not want to go their route) or vc funded. Like Walmart, Mailchimp, and many many many others (there is a whole great book about it called Building on Bedrock that has a lot more examples).
Fantastic video, love the sarcasm. Keep up the great work!
Hilarious AND useful. What a great combo. Now subscribed 😄

Chris--I really enjoyed these. Whoever thought you would aspire to be a TH-camr someday--at least I can tell my son I know a famous TH-camr
Ha! Great to hear from you. Did they cancel the state fair this year? Hope your doing great.
Venture Kills funny-they did cancel my fair lifestyle business this year...first time my family will miss it in 42 years
I’m hooked. I had a Great time watching. Subscribed.
You like to ride your bike around Boulder? So do I! Let's go ride! Love the content! can't wait to hear more!

Love the content, hate the switching of the zoom :) Content is so good though, that I will definitely watch part II

Made me laugh out loud several times! Great tips of course also!
Good brand of humour
Who knew a venture capitalist would make me laugh out loud several times? Great first topic. Subscribed. Try not to bore me (jk, loved it).
I'll try to make several loud noises in the next video to keep your attention
I'm already getting the feeling that this will be required watching for the next PIE cohort 😂
no, it's good for the soul! keep going. this is how it starts.
More please (says the ex lifestyle founder who ran miles from VCs) 😁

Etan Efrati thanks! The goal is education.

"that sounds so stupid.." 🤣
Nice. But lose the artwork. Anything that intersects your head is bad.
