Maybe your uncle knows something about the gathering that wouldn't be good for you all to be involved in. If he's a good person generally, and you have no reason to doubt his intentions, just advise your mother to be relieved and grateful, and to send the couple a gift, because the Prophet said (salla Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam) it increases love. I've experienced it when I've been really hurt and angry, it does soften my anger, alhamdulillah. If your uncle forgot, a mistake is ok. If your uncle is generally not kind to your mother, like the above poster ma shaa'Allah so beautifully put it, be the coolness of her eyes. Remember you're not responsible for your mother's emotions, nor for fixing another's poor decisions. But, in shaa'Allah your goodness is needed now more than ever in shaa'Allah. May Allah ease your mother's sadness and bless you for caring for her, ameen.
