    The most often overlooked aspect of the Arwing is ironically overlooked here. The Arwing is *absurdly* durable. Its boosted shielding can withstand flying through a planet-cracking laser for 80% of its total blast. (The Gorgon Laser is described as a planet cracking weapon).

      It's a complete shame. There aren't too many games on it and the lore is severely lacking. This franchise could be like the Nintendo version of Halo or Mass Effect in that regard but they choose not to do that. Metroid however is much more lore heavy.

      There's a fan written sequel story called "Sunrise Over Lylat" that manages to streamline nearly every game into a single time line, while providing tons of backstory and lore snippets to make the universe so much more expansive and rich. It's worth a read, even if updates have slowed over the past year or two.
      The writing never gets stale, even after steady progress over 9 years of writing. The overall tone is your standard SF space shooty goodness with a huge infusion of both Ace Combat and Battlestar Galactica. I'd recommend the story to any fan of the Star Fox series.

    By this logic, the Wolfen would soon become the fighter of choice for the empires which would want to expand their area faster, as the lasers are much more powerful than the Arwings and its Hunter form is faster than the Walker. The Arwing would probably be the fighter of choice for peacekeeping organizations, and it’s also gonna be used on the offensive just as much as its shields are superior(to the Wolfen). Ultimately, the Arwing would ruin Star Wars and the Wolfen would ruin it even more.

    By most standards, especially one on one the ArWing would win simply due to its more versatile and cost effectiveness. The X-wing would perform better however in the aspects of durability, longevity, and the significantly lower costs (seeing as how the ArWing was sent out in extremely limited numbers at first). ArWings also needed constant upgrades to keep them in the pinnacle of operating conditions.
    In short: ArWing simply would win 9/10 times in a one on one dogfight but in terms of performance in an all out war where experienced pilots are often times a luxury the X-Wing would win merely due to its drastically lower costs, durability, and most of all sheer longevity (given that proper maintenance for their fighters was a luxury at best for the Rebels, this lends them bonus points in that department.)

      Its Arwing, not ARwing pls edit. It infuriates my soul lmao, but yeah Arwing's the choice to go for an Elite group, and X-wings are more on an infantry level. Something to keep in mind (which I've put on my own comment along side some of Arwing's history and lore) is that G-Diffusors need EXTRA care and handling otherwise they fail and explode. However you are wrong in that durability thing. Arwing is simply WAY superior than an X-wing in every single aspect.

  • @Civilunit
    @Civilunit 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    The Arwing actually has allot of interesting history to it and the heart of it's success and troublesome design comes from it's Gravity Diffusion system that it uses not only as a power source but also to bend the laws of physics. For most space craft the idea of inertia Dampening to reduce the stress of gravity on both pilot and ship is nothing new however G-Diffusion allowed a pilot to reduce its effects but also to control Gravity forces against it.
    The first model Arwing and the most famous in Starfox and 64 had the first hybrid G-diffusion system installed making it a space superiority fighterWhile early versions used a hydrogen fuel system this was replaced by Starfox assualt for a full G-diffusion system like the Wolfen-II in 64 allowing it even greater control and has actually a wide variety of different models and types that fit different roles.
    Expensive and complicated to fly it shares allot in common with the X-wing but over all it's design is a beast and its development in the Cornaria air force is much like going from a P-51 mustang to an F-15 allowing a long range multi-role fighter to hit deep into enemy territory pretty much unmatched.
    It is probably no accident though that these two ships share the basic profile, mission specs and transformation features that likely helped create the Arwing we know today. From humble Triangle polygons to sleek state of the art war machine, if Luke Skywalker was a furry fox there is no doubt he would feel right at home in an Arwing.
    Arwing all the way but the X-wing is certainly the roots to its Iconic look and nature.

Most of the capital ships in the games seem like the equivalent to well armed Star Wars frigates. Yeah in the warship department, the star fox universe is lacking there. In area 6 (SF64), most of those warships seem to be small, lightly armed, and lightly armored. Along with no shielding. They wouldn't last too long against imperial ships. And in Assault and Zero the firepower has increased (In assault the range and rate of fire is greatly increased and zero, individual ships have absurdly powerful beams of plasma that they fire.) but most ships have still have no shielding. Not to mention Venom ships have laughable overexposed weak points. In zero Venom super ships like the Granbe (With its shields. Which I think is the most capable ship in the Lylat system to fight imperial ships.) and the Salvadora with its 12ish heavy plasma canons could do the most damage. And the area 6 boss in 64 would probably also be a large threat with its laser, large amounts of missiles and phasing tech.

      The only real threat I see to the arwing from fighters from star wars is the missile boat from TIE fighter. And only in space. In atmosphere, the arwing will go completely unchallenged.

  • @nacaicon1593

    Honestly, the Arwing is a no brainer for the better fighter. The problem comes from the fact you need an ace pilot to really make the most of it, and an ace tech to keep it in peak performance. X-wings require much less maintenance and skill, making them much cheaper and easier to field for a navy.
    You mentioned the upgraded Cornarian fighter, and while it's true its design was based on the Arwing, its durability, power, and cost were much reduced. I think a comparison between it and the X-wing would be more interesting- at least, if we had more data on the Star Fox side of things.

    Even though it is the image in the thumbnail, the SF Assault Arwing design that is most slept on variant; I am glad it was brought back for Battle for Atlas :) It is the Arwing design that really matches the size and shape of what you would expect from a true interstellar-capable heavy fighter. It is much larger than the reported size in the wiki, and rightfully so; it is almost the size of small cruisers, but much, much faster. I'll bet it is about the size of the Millennium Falcon in length and breadth, but much "taller".

    I figured the Arwing would WRECK an Xwing in combat.
    -Relatively compact design (you can see this in perspective in Starfox Adventures and Assault. Bear in mind that Fox is 5'8").
    -Has the ability to not only fly much faster in atmosphere but accelerate and deccelerate INSTANTLY without killing the pilot. Thats like putting rockets on a Porsche Taycan Turbo S (an already very fast car off the line). The G diffuser also would theoretically grant the ability to supermaneuver (dont know what it is, look it up).
    -Superior armament. The high power lasers fire in a much tighter spread, making the fact that you get only two and not four a moot point.
    But it DOES have a few flaws:
    -The roll maneuver that overcharges shields is disorienting and makes it difficult to track enemies.
    -Rear visibilty is obscured and the pilot would be more exposed by the glass canopy. The G diffuser units and rear positioning of the cockpit would also block some side visibility.
    -Because they're exclusively used by Starfox Team members, its easy for the enemy to identify. But this could also be used to intimidate the enemy.
    -Losing a wing disables the side lasers altogether and also negatively effects stability even in space for some reason.
    -No seperate counter measures to deal with missiles. But maybe you won't need chaff if you can either roll and have the magnetic field act like an ECM, or try to outmaneuver it.
    -And finally the fact that gamplay never has the Arwing come anywhere close to its established canon abilities.

    The only thing I’d say, is that the Arwing is the main protagonists in the games meaning it has lots of health and advantages. If you look at the Xwing piloted by the player in Roque Squadron it is just as good and you even single handed take out like 3 star destroyers in a Battle of Endor level, just like jet fighters in other games , you get far more missiles and can take more damage than the actual jet in real life.

    The arwing is one of Nintendo's most interesting underrated space vehicles, as it can decimate fleets, other underrated Nintendo space craft include the hunter gunship from Metroid, as this gunship is capable of being used via remote control via the varia suit to perform bombing runs, another feature is the following: whilst dogfighting, the occupant can lend their offense to the gunship and finally there is the Expy of the battleship of the holy imperium of man itself, capable of destroying the wish granting machine known as nova

    • @marrqi7wini54

      It's because many games don't give much detail on the ships, making proper breakdowns harder to do. The sci-fi franchises Halo and Mass Effect are exceptions because they do give a lot of lore in that regard. Metroid has a lot of lore but it's more confined to planetside creatures, bounty hunters, and aliens you have to fight. Not on vessels and fighters. Except maybe on Samus' personal gunship.

  • @eddyblanco7210
    @eddyblanco7210 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Put it this way;
    A T-65 X-Wing starfighter piloted by SW's best, Wedge Antilles
    VS
    Arwing 1(You can say 2, but I'm sticking to 1) pilot by Fox McCloud
    Wedge is 'god tier' on piloting skills in anything he flies. With or without the assist droid unit, Wedge can take on one on one dogfights along with space armadas. X-Wings, on the other hand ARE kind of weak. Think; If a Tie Fighter is a manual shift, then X-Wing is automatic. Without the assistance of a onboard droid, most starfighters would get decimated in the cold darkness of space. So the pilot inside counts for a lot!
    Fox isn't no slouch & has far more canon than is ever mentioned. Put him in a Arwing starfighter & you are asking for a 'quick death'. The Arwing doesn't look as menacing as the X-Wing, but it more than makes up for it. Adequate shielding, sturdy firepower & a smart bomb that clear a path of almost anything. & the flight capabilities are ridiculous & endless to list.
    Wedge would put up a long enough dogfight in space, air or near land/water. But once Fox gets tired of it, 'press that S/B' button & Wedge better jump hyperspace out of there or die trying.

    • @marrqi7wini54
      @marrqi7wini54 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'll do it here myself. In comparison to star wars warships, the great fox actually isn't all that great. It only has 2 heavy plasma cannons as offensive weapons. (Granted they're more powerful in star fox assault due to upgrades but it would take many shots to go through the shields of star wars capital ships.)
      The Battleship Halberd. (I'm assuming we're talking about the version in the games not the anime. Also let's use the brawl version as a reference since its the most detailed and future Kirby games use this model.) Well the role of such a ship is truly a role of supremacy. Meaning it's best used when there are no ships that are around or that surpass its power. (AKA vessels like the subspace gunship in SSBB or the access arc in KPR.) It has been believed that it has a count of 150 guns across its surface. Which depending on the game can use slug rounds or anti air flak artillery. It also has a fair targeting system. Both facts combined mean that it excels in going against small snub fighters by the use of a highly thick flak screen.
      Compared to other star wars vessels, this would be an absolute nightmare of a ship to go against with fighters but other capital ships would have an easier time dealing with it. The Halberd has no shields and uses slug weapon that don't go too much faster than the speed of sound. It could have a really hard time cracking through shielded vessels. And in star wars, there are some really large warships in the galaxy.

    I love the X wing, but you have to give the Arwing credit where it's due. Problem is, I thought the Arwings Starfox used were only as good as they were because Slippy had worked on them as opposed to coming straight from Space Dynamics. The two advantages I'd give the X wing over the Arwing is the fact that X wings come with a hyperdrive by default for FTL while the Arwings have to be carried into battle by a carrier. The other advantage is its ability to be produced and train pilots to fly it mucn easier then the Arwing's prototype status.

    • @marrqi7wini54
      @marrqi7wini54 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I give you that but there are some key differences on the uses for each fighter.
      The X-Wing has its use to fight in an intergalactic rebellion so not only do you need as many pilots as you can get, but many defected from the empire as well. So it is a bit easier to get pilots.
      The Arwing is used to fight an open intersystem war, with elite mercenaries doing precision strikes on enemy strongholds and destroying deadly super weapons while protecting vital assets and territory. Meaning in this instance, you don't need more pilots, you need a small team of some of the best pilots.
      Two different ships for different types of war.
      Also the technology in each is a bit different from both series. With star wars actually being less advanced than the star fox universe in most technologies excluding FTL. (Which I'll talk about right now.) By the time of the empire and onwards, hyperspace capable snub fighters were becoming greater and greater in importance. Before that, most star fighters didn't have hyperdrives like they do now. Even with the hyperdrives, if the X-Wing were to need to fight in the Lylat wars, hyperspace capability might not be so valuable. You need proper hyperlanes and a great distance between jumps and most of the time you can only exit 'safely' from hyperspace once you reach a certain point in a planet's gravitational influence. ( th-cam.com/video/Y2g7LUlL5Xg/w-d-xo.html ) (Precision jumps are actually really difficult and dangerous. A jump between one nearby system to another is considered very precise.) Simply put it, if the X-Wing were to be in the star fox universe, it too might need to rely on a carrier.
      With the Arwing, I see it performing better than usual in a strategic sense. Most fighters do rely on a carrier in star wars so if the star fox team could get their hands on such a vessel, they could do fine. Though it cannot be the Great Fox as it needs warp gates for proper FTL travel. FTL is kind of slow in that series. Granted there are ways to travel and even leave the galaxy, but for the sake of the games, it isn't important.

    • @generaljimmies3429
      @generaljimmies3429 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think the Arwings had FTL by default, Star Fox simply chose to launch from the Great Fox to keep on top of maintenance. How else was Peppy able to return to Corneria after Pigma's betrayal.
      Remember, the team were using a leapfrog(World War 2 Pacific Theater Strategy)/blitzkrieg strategy in the Lylat System, you were constantly moving from one target to the next with no downtime between each battle(unless the plot demands it XD).
      If it was only the Arwings moving around the system any damage they incur will stack up after each battle, they would be whittled down to nothing.
      But if the Great Fox was nearby the Arwings can repair their damage while in transit to each planet. It's more pragmatic to launch from a carrier when using this style of strategy.

    • @marrqi7wini54
      @marrqi7wini54 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@generaljimmies3429
      I disagree. The only form of FTL we've seen in star fox are either warp zones like in 64 or the orbital gate in assault. It's more likely to me, someone friendly picked Peppy up. Even then, Pigma's betrayal has not been visualized.
      Also if star fox zero is an indicator, these arwings may have a relatively high relativistic speed. Seen when Wolf escapes the first battle in sector beta.
