Also while in Space the Arwing doesn't activate the Alierons which makes since since in Space there is no Atmosphere, it uses the G-Diffuser system which i think are the Flight Control Surfaces or system of the Arwing. But in the Planets where there is Atmosphere it uses the Alierons and FCS to be able to control the Arwing. And the All range mode when the Arwing expands its wings are incredible too it has a Variable wing structure where it can be used to be able to fly more freely or to fly more faster which in actual aircrafts do with that kind of wind structures. Please forgive me of the long discussion but i find it fascinating and i have to say i do love that you give the specs, capacity, capabilities, and more of the Aircrafts and Spacecrafts, even though these are fictional they seem very grounded like believable. The traditional space imperical unit has a conversion of 3.257-1 space meter, although the empirical space imperical unit is slightly different, at 3.472-1 space meter, presumably to make ships seem fractionally bigger than they actually are.
Converting space meters to Earth imperial units: Depends on if we assume the characters are human size or the size of those animals in reality. Relative to them the Arwing is a tiny fighter, compared with any real-life human fighter. If they're human size, then I would estimate the Arwing to be about 20-25 feet long, they give a length of 28 space meters, so that would give a conversion factor of around 1.2 space meters = 1 foot. If we assume the characters are animal-size, then the Arwing might be around 5-8 feet long, which would give somewhere around 3.5-5.6 space meters per foot.
Star Fox Zero for the Wii U received an animated short titled "The Battle Begins", which is what most of the footage here is taken from. th-cam.com/video/wA2-0nTxaGg/w-d-xo.html

The Arwing could outspeed snub fighters in atmosphere by a factor of anywhere from 3-4 times. I could imagine at that speed, Fox wouldn't have much issue attacking the Death Star in far less than half an hour.
Which franchises are you talking about? Because if you're talking about star wars you're probably right. Though in Stargate, the human made F-301 can reach up to mach 6 in atmosphere.

@@republiccommando6104 You're forgetting that Arwings are capable of taking hits from planet-destroying superweapons (Area 6 boss from SF64). Not very well, but that _is_ a feat they're capable of. Honestly, I don't really like the idea of trying to compare tech from different franchises. You run into weirdness, such as small fighters from one setting being able to solo capital ships from another, or weapons that have been demonstrated as being capable of destroying planetary bodies effectively being pea-shooters elsewhere.
This is what I love about those old games: They had ships which were basically just a bunch of polygons with a few pieces of moreless weird game mechanics, and still those things look cool when redrawn in high res. They really made every pixel and every corner of every polygon count.
Star Fox Team vs an Imperial II-class Star Destroyer. Their speed would make them exceedingly difficult targets and if they figure out they can fly THROUGH the Ray Shields, the SD is pretty screwed.
I believe in space the Arwing has a similar combat speed as other comparable fighters though it does have more maneuverability in the XY direction than any other fighter in the entire star wars franchise. The main issue the star fox team would have isn't being shot down. (Let's face it, even though the defenses on the star destroyer are far superior to Andross' forces, they're still not that great and star destroyers do have issues with snub fighters.) No, the main issue is the sheer size and shielding on a star destroyer. Not only is a star destroyer absolutely much bigger and more massive than anything in the Lylat system, it is shielded quite well and there are no glowing spots to say "Hey shoot me here!" That isn't to say it can't be figured out with little difficulty but outright destruction of an ISD is just not in the cards. Maybe they can temporary disable it but I just don't see them destroying it.
@@mill2712 We've seen Arwings go up against similar ships before, most notably the Cannon Betrayer dreadnoughts from Star Fox 2 and the Salvadora Super-Dreadnought from Star Fox Zero. You're kinda correct in that in a straight-up pound-for-pound firefight the Arwing probably wouldn't be able to do much, but part of the thing with Arwings is that their incredible maneuverability means they easily can execute precision strikes against any craft they can't outright destroy with shear force - which is exactly how you're supposed to take out Cannon Betrayers and the Salvadora in their respective boss fights. Basically, to fight the cannon betrayers, you actually have to pull a Phantom Menace and fly straight through the ship interiors to then attack the reactor directly. Same thing with Salvadora's Sector Alpha appearance, although in the gaiden mission where Peppy launches a preemptive strike you actually target the various weapon emplacements instead, which eventually causes a chain reaction. Against an ISD, the main targets would be the shield generators above the bridge, the bridge itself, the ventral reactor bulge and the primary thrusters, with the turret emplacements being the secondary targets. Even the hangar would be a valid target simply due to the fact that the Arwing could just pop in, hit its brakes hard, fire off a smart bomb or a few charge shots, and then dive out. The reason why that tactic isn't used in Star Wars is because none of their fighters can basically arrest their momentum instantly like that, the G-Diffusor is what enables such an insane maneuver.
@@VestedUTuber Ok the tactic of going in the bottom hanger and setting of some nova bombs would actually be a great idea. Especially if you have Star Fox Zero Arwings that have a walker function. Though my main concern is the ISD's durability. If you attack a number of bosses in places that aren't its weak points, you won't do any damage. ISDs seem to have some pretty strong armor and shielding. So I'm unsure just how much damage can be done with Star Fox weapons. Bombs are the best bet in my opinion to be honest. And I do also believe the main shield generators are likely the biggest weakness. But I do agree that if their weapons are effective, then all the strategies you typed out are more than valid. But if not then only a few spots would be under major threat of an arwing attack with its based weapons. (But if Statlink and Slippy's genius are anything to go by, then it's quite likely a few modifications can be made to help assist with those issues.)
@@mill2712 Honestly, I think it would be the same case with the ISD. The Arwing has options to attack certain areas of the ship, but if it just shoots at bare hull it won't do anything. The Arwing's laser cannons do still seem to have more punch than the ones equipped on a typical fighter in Star Wars since they can take turrets and other external components clean off of enemy capital ships, so I'd assume they can at least punch some small, shallow holes into the ISD's armored hull (and probably do the same to the various bosses as well), but unless those hit somewhere critical they won't do much more than maybe breach some outer compartments.
Symbolic importance of fighters is interesting, a good example is the Supermarine Spitfire, commonly depicted as the Mk 2 in commemorative art despite having been developed significantly further over the course of the war.
We need a HARD reboot of StarFox 64 and all worthy sequels. A miniseries on Netflix. A miniatures game. A webcomic, a movie deal (if sonic can get one, SF can get one). New games. LET'S GO NINTENDO WHERE YOU AT? It will hit the nostalgia crowd like a nuclear bomb. Yall are slackin' bro.
Since it isn't mentioned in the video, I'd like to add that in order for the pilot to be able to fully utilize the Arwing's experimental systems without suffering the full brunt of the g forces they're being put under, it is mandatory for Arwing pilots to have their legs amputated from the knee down and replaced with cybernetics capable of directly interfacing with the Arwing's systems.

Anyways amazing channel!!!!!
What is the conversion from Space meters to space imperial units?
Something, something, Space Americans...
The traditional space imperical unit has a conversion of 3.257-1 space meter, although the empirical space imperical unit is slightly different, at 3.472-1 space meter, presumably to make ships seem fractionally bigger than they actually are.
@@jimmyseaver3647 The Space Metric system hasn't put a space critter on the space moon yet.
1:1. But then, Space Pi is exactly 3.
One of the best starfox of videos on youtube
I just realized the Arwing is a futuristic F-14 Tomcat.
If they decided to further upgrade the F-14, they would get the Hellcat II, an homage to an incredible fighter of old.
Where is the video footage from? Is there a StarFox anime out there?!
Star Fox Zero for the Wii U received an animated short titled "The Battle Begins", which is what most of the footage here is taken from. th-cam.com/video/wA2-0nTxaGg/w-d-xo.html
th-cam.com/video/6XkhPXXbPXY/w-d-xo.html
That was great.
My personal favorite version of the Arwing is from StarFox Assault. The ship designs in that game were gorgeous.
The Arwing is my favorite fighter in fiction. I am so glad you guys covered it.
This is single handedly the greatest ship you've covered.
I haven't even watched yet.
RIP Rick May the VA of Peppy Hare and Andross in the Star Fox 64.
I really appreciate that you guys over at Space Dock are making videos on craft that while may be a stable or iconic in sci-fi video games, are almost never talked about. I mean the Arwing has almost no documentation on it, so it's super cool that you are making videos that go into what lore there is.
I'm so glad to see the Arwing covered since after all, we can't leave Slippy hanging......or can we?
We should. We really should. The slippery green bastard...
@@gorvarhadgarson5227 *Slippy gets shot down*: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
I just did a 6 speed manual swap and welded the diff on my arwing. She slides real nice now.
Star Fox needs to make a comeback, especially this is its 30th anniversary.
Although I have not played the games before but I think this is one hell of a fighter.
Now we need a great fox, wolfen, and landmaster analysis
Unfortunately Nintendo never made stats as detailed for those ships as it did for the arwing.
I can't believe my request was listened to. Or at least was deemed inevitable considering the channel's nature. The vid was a delight to watch
The Arwing could outspeed snub fighters in atmosphere by a factor of anywhere from 3-4 times. I could imagine at that speed, Fox wouldn't have much issue attacking the Death Star in far less than half an hour.
Its faster than human technology.
Which franchises are you talking about? Because if you're talking about star wars you're probably right. Though in Stargate, the human made F-301 can reach up to mach 6 in atmosphere.

OMG THAT WAS AWESOME!!! thank you! Star Fox 64 was my 1st video game ever. Its beyond sentimental. I have so many happy memories as a kid and teen playing Star Fox. Lol in 5th grade it's about all me and my friends talked about at school. Spacedock, you all are to be praised. 🤘🤘
The Arwing, ADFX-01 Morgan and ADF-01 Raven are among the best looking fictional aircraft in my opinion.

So happy to see someone cover the Arwing or anything Star Fox related for that matter. It is one of the most underrated ip's .
The Star Fox theme always gets me pumped.

Hey! Starfox! Killer! I played this ride on N64!
MAJOR nostalgia feels right here, love the Starfox series
My favorite fighter of all time after the X-Wing.
I'd like to see a crossover between Fox McCloud vs Wedge Antilles in his X-Wing. Epic starfighter battle!
It needs to be done in space however since there, the X-wing's abilities are much closer to the arwing's there.
Wow, I didn’t think there was enough info to cover for a space dock episode but I’m glad to see this iconic fighter get the spot light.
I really love the concept of your channel. We can see the passion through your explanations. You deserves more likes. 🤘
The whole "Do a barrel roll" meme is never going to feel quite the same now that Rick May passed away. Apparently, pressing Z or R twice doesn't deflect the Coronavirus.
Yeah man. Rest in peace Rick May, and well hes also gonna "be waiting for you"
Do a barrel roll for Rick may
The Ar-wing is awesome I love the fighter. Great job guys. About time you guys do a breakdown on something from Starfox.
Now I have to go play Starlink: Battle for Atlas.
I bought that on the Switch just to have a Star Fox game. It's surprising great. I just wish I could have found the accessories on clearance before they disappeared :(
Its not that bad but i sware im controlung a hovercraft most of the time. Get it cheap, dlc is the first line of toys and there is a second, no phsyical, set of ships, pilots and weapons.
Its sn akward situation but im glad it came out.
I honestly unironically love this ship.
Oh, man, the nostalgia is really hitting me! Do one on the craft used by the Star Wolf team!! Please!!

God, yes! 🙌🙌🙌 Got instantly pumped at the sound of the Corneria theme.
The polygons are strong with this one
It's one of the most badass fictional fighter... Second only to a space-ready f14 tomcat
There was a moment when he was speaking of the 'barrel roll' that I swear I heard the hint of a chuckle which was barely contained.
I heard it too, lol i was looking for someone to make a comment on it here, so thanks! XD
Starfox = Instant Like.
Wow. This was a nice surprise from left field. Thank you, Alasdair.
I would love to see a Star Fox show or film it could be Nintendo's version of Top Gun since I saw some people have compared the Arwing and the F-14 Tomcat but I saw some people compared to the X-Wing from Star Wars. Anyways an excellent channel, would love to see your coverage of the Great Fox.
Best part is @ 2:28 when the narrator chuckles a bit explaining the absurdity that a barrel rolls create an electromagnetic shield
I’ve been waiting for this one, thanks for sharing!
Would you guys consider a video about The Great Fox someday?
Please do one on the Wolfen...
So the Arwing is fast?

@@marrqi7wini54 Sure. The Taiidan Multi-Gun Corvette are corvettes armed with six fast-tracking medium mass drivers meant to destroy swarms of strikecraft. So a squad of Multi-Gun Corvettes (3 corvettes or more) can reduce the Star Fox Arwings to scrap.
@@republiccommando6104
You're forgetting that Arwings are capable of taking hits from planet-destroying superweapons (Area 6 boss from SF64).
@0:10 when I heard the Corneria theme it was an instant thumbs up.
This is more an ingame history than a breakdown of a craft.
Have you guys done a video on the Outlaw star?
Okay but you didn't mention that that baby can take temperatures of up to 9,000 degrees!
This is what I love about those old games: They had ships which were basically just a bunch of polygons with a few pieces of moreless weird game mechanics, and still those things look cool when redrawn in high res. They really made every pixel and every corner of every polygon count.
FINALLY I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS SINCE THAT ONE PODCAST
Wow!!!!! great editing and narrative. I have been a fan since Starfox 64 and thus REALLY enjoyed this one .
Hey, good to hear you again Alasdair! hope the pair of you are keeping safe during these times.
(Let's face it, even though the defenses on the star destroyer are far superior to Andross' forces, they're still not that great and star destroyers do have issues with snub fighters.)
No, the main issue is the sheer size and shielding on a star destroyer.
@@mill2712
We've seen Arwings go up against similar ships before, most notably the Cannon Betrayer dreadnoughts from Star Fox 2 and the Salvadora Super-Dreadnought from Star Fox Zero.
@@VestedUTuber
Ok the tactic of going in the bottom hanger and setting of some nova bombs would actually be a great idea.
@@mill2712
Honestly, I think it would be the same case with the ISD.
The one sci fi ship that trumps even the Incom T-65 in terms of iconability
I didn't know how much I needed this till just now. Thanks!
DO A BARREL ROLL!!!
Do a video on the Arwing vs. the X-Wing
I clicked on this as soon as I saw it in my feed. "Aileron roll." I was not disappointed.
If Starfox Zero was good for 1 thing, it's ship to ship action footage 👍
Sector beta right? Also I believe Assault had a great sequence at the game's beginning.
RIP Rick May
Well. You into Star Fox Too? Nice.
Great vid Spacedock! The Arwings are awesome, the Assault Arwing is my favorite.
Symbolic importance of fighters is interesting, a good example is the Supermarine Spitfire, commonly depicted as the Mk 2 in commemorative art despite having been developed significantly further over the course of the war.
Love this episode, got major feels and going down memory lane with this episode. Keep up the great work.
Should do a follow up on the Great Fox. For me that is one of my personal favourite carrier ships. Dang this carries Arwings, Tanks and submarines.
I’m starting to see more Starfox content and I’m all for it!
Fantastic video on one my favorite spacecraft of all time.
Source? Last time I checked the devs debunked the whole robo leg thing and made it clear it's just metal boots.
@@Awoken_Remmuz
Yeah that was retconned. The reason the models had metal legs was to keep them standing upright.
I love starfox.
If you guys do videos on every ship they have data on, I would unironically watch each and every one.
