James apparently sang this in one take. This was the first time his dad heard the song. At the end of the song everyone was crying including all the production crew. James and his father were both Officers in the British army. Keeping to the British stiff upper lip, his father who was dying said *why's everyone crying, I'm not dead yet*

Everyone at that recording knew the situation and the fact James won't it in one take.
Anyone that can't see emotion and pain in this song and video has no feelings at all.
Appreciate your videos, enjoy watching you. That is James' father. He was diagnosed with stage 4 Kidney disease. I believe after the video came out a distant relative saw it and was able to donate and his father is doing well
It was a cousin of theirs named Charles Blount, just like James’ father. His father had donated a kidney to someone earlier in life, then his began failing and he needed one. James sang this in one take, and the only person in the room that had dry eyes was his father.
I found out I had kidney disease when I was 20 years old 39 now stage 5 on dialysis I'm waiting for a kidney

I have watched this couple before and (without being too critical of them) they often come off as being disingenuous---especially when they talk about their religious beliefs. I have watched more than 50 reactions to this beatuful song about the love that a son has for his father while suffering from end stage kidney failure and needing a transplant. Your flipent and disresepctful joking about someone going thru grief thinking about the posibility of his father passing away was shameful and tone deaf. If this is your idea of a christian reaction to human suffering, maybe you should try reviewing somethimg simple like childrens songs. Please grow up. It's not always about you .
Having watched a number of their reaction videos, I have come to the conclusion that they are not "good" Christians but rather the disingenuous ones that give Christianity a bad name.

James Blunt's father Charles, himself a kidney donor, was diagnosed with stage four chronic kidney disease. Blunt wrote "Monsters" to "express his feelings about his father and his illness, almost as if it's a touching farewell to his father"
Unfortunately, these two have proved that there are aliens without feelings disguised as human beings in our world... I will never watch another video of tbeirs.
His dad, who also served in the British Army, used the line, I'm not your father, your not my son, were just two grown men saying goodbye when James left to serve in Kosovo, when his dad was dying of kidney disease he wrote this song with that line. luckily a long lost cousin heard the song and reached out, donated a kidney and saved James' father.

James Blunt wanted this to be 100% real and authentic. This was the first time he'd sung it to his dad, who had only recently been diagnosed with stage 4 kidney disease and was not expected to survive, although they did eventually find a donor and he made it. Both James and his dad are former officers in the British military. First time I heard this was 3 days after my Dad passed away and it broke me I lost my Dad 4 years ago this August after he fell and hit his head sadly he didn't survive it caused a bleed on his brain I sadly never had the chance to tell him I loved him and that hurts but i know he is at peace now.
First time listening to you guys and of all the reaction I've seen of this song, the first time I've seen someone laugh (and I guess cry?) at the same time.

People who have lost there fathers to death in any way can relate to this video my dad passed away 1 month before my 12 birthday 8 years ago I'm going to be 20 in july of this year so I can relate to the song in a way his dad was going to die of an illness mine died of a heart attack
My dad's brothers each got a song at their dad's memorial (he died during COVID nonsense) so we commemorated him at our next reunion and each of his sons got a song to play on honor for their personal relationship with their dad. This was my father's one after I (his son) gave the opening prayer. This song will forever make me cry

His Dad got a kidney after he made this video and as far as I know he's still alive.
His dad did survive he needed a kidney earlier he had donated one of his. Latter his remaining kidney went bad. James Blunt wrote the song for dad. The call went out to extended family and a cousin had the match. Did surgery and he is doing well. GOD ANSWERS PRAYER!! AMEN

As I said on someone else's comment. Trauma response for some people is to laugh or joke when faced with overwhelming sadness or pain. I find this a lot on the family I was raised in. We don't cry at funerals, we laugh and joke about the good memories ans avoid the bad memories.

This is my first time watching this young couple. I noticed a lot of judgment from a lot of people in the comments about this couple's reaction to this song. This is a great song, and it's emotional, so I don't know how u can send all this judgment to this couple while a great song is being played.. I had to live this song one morning at 5:26am. It was just me and him and the Lord's Prayer. The hardest monster I had to chase away after that was waking my mother up to let her know of his passing. This song is hard to watch because it reminds me of him. Laughter was not my reaction and I was surprised that it was yours.
When he did this song, his father was dying of kidney failure but due to the song being put out, a donor came forward and saved his father.But when this song was written this was how him and his dad were saying goodbye to each other😢

In case you’re unaware, TH-cam guidelines REQUIRE them to pause the video so many times and for so many seconds or it will get taken down or they will get a strike. His dad made it and is doing good James' father, Charles Blount, underwent a kidney transplant in 2020, with James happily revealing his father is now doing 'well' - but there was a major issue they had to tackle before the surgery took place. 'The guy who donated the kidney, remarkably, has got the same name as my dad, Charles Blount.
