Hey John and Isaac I haven’t watched any of the video quite yet. A little piece of information about me is I started watching guys back in like the days where you had the riding lawnmower that you did a pulley swap on and then did the V twin motor off of the drag rail and not much before that was the rat rod wagon and you guys actually inspired my life and over a couple years of you know watching you guys I have actually acquired probably 200 projects coming and going in my life since I started watching you guys and I would just like to thank you and one of my many projects put me in the same scenario of your Honda CR 500 and it was doing practically the exact same thing just in a little bit different form because mine was an 80 cc and yours was a 500. I have a 1987 Yamaha PW 80 that was having roughly the same issues and then I put crank seals in it and it ran perfect so is what I would do is I would look into crank seals on that bike cause I don’t recall if you guys ever put crank seals on that bike I thought you did, but I’m not sure but I would maybe take the 500 off the wall and look into it a little bit and see if it needs a crank sealer too, and you guys have giving me the smarts of small lawnmower, engines and stuff and then from there one on the dirt bikes, and I have acquired myself plenty of projects that have came and gone in the last, probably 6 years of watching you guys I am 15 now. I probably started watching you guys when I was nine years old and you inspired my life a lot and I would just like to thank you guys and also I’ve seen you guys go from John’s parents backyard to the new property and I saw you with the old little brick shed and then he built a nice new place and really happy for you guys and now I’m actually thinking about starting my own channel and it’s kind of gone uphill a lot and it’s hurricane Hayden and I probably started it a little bit when I started watching you guys and then I paused for 2 years or so and then as I came back onto it probably 1/ 1/2 years ago and it went from probably 14 subscribers to 100 in one and a half years I also did a little Lawn Service business that got me a lot of machines and got me money to work on them and also, I got some tools and some miscellaneous things out of the Lawn Service, but it all started with you guys catching my eye and giving me enthusiasm. Therefore, I have turned my life into an engine enthusiast and small engine kind of a guy and now it is moving onto cars and stuff a little bit and thanks to you guys. I was never an in the house buried my face in the video games and in fact doing Lawn Service and stuff also showed me from miscellaneous people I’ve had in my life come and go. I’ve also realized that video games are really bad for you and put you in a bad place and it just makes you be like disrespectful to anything or anybody other than your video games and you want nothing to do with anything unless it’s involved in video games and this get outside and do all this engine small engine stuff got me pretty good life and it all started with you guys and thank you
Paragraphs my man, just throw a few "enter" in there. Also video games aren't inherently bad you've just gotta keep things in perspective and moderation. Rock on dude!
I'm sure that you will get back an answer soon 👍 Good on you for following something that you must love . Life is short and it's cool to know that car's and cameras has made a good positive young man out of you.. Sounds like you really love car's and cameras and that has to be one of the best things for them to hear. Life is short so keep on doing what you love. Soon you will look back and realize that time goes by quickly. Please don't do what I did. I got into the drugs and now that I have got the help to stop my mom and dad are gone ,I'm fifty years old and it only seems like yesterday that I was fifteen . With dreams about Life that I can't get back. I'm here feeling sad about it but that's not going to bring back all the years I waisted. Now I just watch and wish I had done what you are doing . Good on you!!! 👍 From me Way Down Under in New Zealand .
That's awesome man, glad to hear you're staying busy. Crank seals was one of the first things we changed on our CR500. I honestly believe it's operating as intended- the early liquid cooled models are particularly hard to start up. You're gonna do great in life if you're learning and working at age 15. Glad to hear things are going well for you!
@@Hurricane-Hayden Thank you for your comment back. You have given me alot to think about and hope for the future . I'll be One of your first subscribers if you do start your own you tube channel .. I'll be looking out for you in the future. Keep on going up in life my friend. Going down isn't the best 🥺 bye for now,
Dawg said a whole lot of nothing just to say video games made him a bitch 😂😭 how about prioritizing your time you can have a job a project and a hobby you know right ? You sound genuinely stupid 🤷🏾♂️
Can't wait to release the race video this Saturday, stay tuned!
Casually wondering were chuck disappear too
@@CarsandCameras I like Isaac and John them good 👍 boy in North Carolina
@@CarsandCameras I can't wait see the video
How do I enter without spending any money?
Before you install the studs for the head install, you can get some ball bearings to put in the stud holes to keep them from bottoming out
This video so far has been one of the most helpful in regards to mechanical instruction. Thanks. Looking forward to watching the 180
Every time we build an engine, we learn something new, and we do our best to pass it along in our videos!
Take the pcv valve that screws in the oil fill of your billit side cover. Put it under your seat and add a 3/8 90 degree barb to the right side of valve cover then step the line to 1/2" then a small piece of 5/8" to clamp to pcv valve. from there run to filter or catch can. It's the way I found that worked after many failures and getting covered in oil.
Just clicked on their channel to see a new vid was 15 seconds ago, now i have an awesome vid to watch while eating dinner lol
2 am Good Morning Guys 👍. This Old Man from Washington NC enjoying with my coffee ☕. What a great start to my day ❤️. Always loving your videos 🥰. 🛵🧔💝💝💝
Great job boys!
I just love you guys! You have come so far! From the days of $100 go karts to now! I'm a long time subscriber, I purchase merchandise, and I support what you do! I thank you for what you've done to help revitalize the hobby/sport of mini biking and go-karting. I wish you both, John and Isacc, much continued success and I thank you for the many years of entertaining content.
It’s not about the money or being cheap. It’s about being involved and learning a skill.😊🍻
no way!!!! that teaser is SICK!! cant wait to see next video of race!!!
A C&C style mini-bike is a maximum mini-bike. They’re some of the best in the game.
Cool bike!
A lot of racers, looks like it will be an exciting race. Looking forward to seeing it. Looking forward to y'all getting a "W"
Looks like fun. I'm 70, I would still like to try.
Good stuff mister, keep up that mindset, build that minibike
Those GPS gas tanks needs to be braced better where they weld the mounts. The welds break and gas will leak out of them. Drill and tap another bung on the bottom back side of the valve cover. Then, , you can mount a catch can under the seat. On the catch can, drill and tap a bung a the bottom of the can so that the oil drains back into the engine. I had to do this on my street legal Trailmaster Hurricane. It solved my oiling issues.
They need to make a choppy cam for these Engines that would be very cool to hear a mini bike loping on the idle. I cant recall if i have heard one of these chopping at idle. I know your dragster has some hot cams. The Short bus is so good for doing what your doing with it. Love it!! And man that was a big time hare scramble.
That "chop" does sound cool but it is actually a misfire caused by valve overlap. With 8 cylinders you can deal with that misfiring at idle and it will stay running. These engines are not automotive V-8's though. With only one cylinder, things are different. When you have a lot of overlap on a single cylinder engine, you often have to adjust the idle RPM up pretty high for it to even stay running. Also, pick a cam based on the application, target power band, cylinder head, etc., not the sound.
@@WalkerSmallEnginePerformance Yea I get everything your saying here. Fully understand the concept and why it wont work thanks for the explanation brother.
All respect love the video you know I love what you guys do, but I saw the firewood in the background at the shop, in the background next to the fence. Specialty tree work firewood splitting, yard work, clearing for a mini truck saving good trees, can clean up any mess if you ever need my help, work did you guys do sand and scraping grinding. Got you guys is back still following you all respect to the,u, and family, and Friends. Prayers 🙏 God bless 🙏
Such an awesome project. Need a paddle in the back for all that mud. Still mad fun.
Wish could visit one day. Awesome to see on vid like this. Thanks guys.
Sean now that's some fun riding🤙🤑💯
It’s been five years since I raced with you guys in Oregon I think about it all the time I really need to get to a race again but life gets in the way
You guys are legends, great video man. Cant wait tor the follow up on saturday. Get some paddle tyres, looks like you will need them lol.
Keep on keeping on.
Another thing, there is plenty of room to mount a AMR supercharger on top of that engine. Use a pressure washer to hydro form a intake . With long sweeping 90°(+/-) get the basic shape right weld two sheets together on the edges. Weld on a bung to connect the hose. Fill it untill the sheet metal makes a pipe . Go over the welds again grind smooth. Cut the ends off , weld on flanges. Probably going to require a rubber hose between the engine and supercharger due to flex and expansion. Keeping a 1.25" inside diameter roughly, should work great. Maybe a 90° and 45° or 60° could get it done. Possibly two 90° elbows. Making the elbows about .090"-.100" larger in the middle of the elbow. From around 10° on one side to 0° on the other basically making a anti-venturi allowing more room for slowing air in the turns. Maybe making the pipe slightly smaller just before the turn will push the sir through the turn faster? Make a 1/2" ring smaller by
.075" or so a venturi just before the elbow. Making the air flows faster into the turn. A supercharger and 35-38mm (+/-) carb, should make some power, especially on methanol, and near 10psi. 30hp should be a part throttle case!😏 especially with about 10% nitro😮
Happy holidays folks! ✌️
A supercharged single cylinder would be an awesome experiment, but for maximum reliability over a 3 hour race, you can't beat naturally aspirated!
I realize that this race was a done deal, however ..l I would like to suggest that the nipple and hose size for the oil return won’t matter too much if you are still stuck with a 1/4 NPT fittings from the block.(the smallest diameter in the line is the greatest restriction point.)I hope this helps with your future builds. 👍👍❤️
Excellent use of the "Ike-crometer" on the head bolts.
Sup so excited for this episode
Another great video guys 👍👍
You guys and go power sports should endeavor into figuring out a roller cam set up for small engines, the rest of the internal combustion engine group has been doing this for 40 years now
I've thought about this. It wouldn't be easy though. You'd really need a larger lifter bore which means modification to the block and there really isn't a lot of room there to begin with. If anyone would/could do it, it would likely be Tim Iskenderian at Small Engine Cams. They grind cams for these things and they make roller lifters for automotive stuff. I can't imagine that he hasn't thought about it. I just don't think it can be done at all or done in a way that's practical and would provide enough benefit for the effort and cost.
@ yeah that’s a strong possibility, of course the automotive industry probably never would have gone roller either until they had to figure out ways to make HP with bad gas and different oils because of the EPA restrictions. So you’re right it’s probably a cost/benefit scenario..
great stuff guys thanks
I enjoy all of the videos thanks.
Isaac, my wife and I like to watch your videos. We noticed you never say what your brother's name is. We assume he is your twin brother. We also like Cars and Cameras with John and Charles. I have even bought and built a Iil' Rascal lite pretty much because of you guys. My grandkids will love it this summer. Carry on. Mike and Sherry.
nice to see Rick on here .
Awesome video
But you guys had fun and you came in first place🎉😊🏆
head stud shenanigans, good lord boys
The track is scary with all the rain and when everyone is in a pack it is going to be terrifying! I hope everyone stays safe! I remember how crazy it gets when it is dry. 🙏❤️
That race looks like the Red Bull Hare Scramble. Crazy stuff
@CarsandCameras4 If you're going to try to scam, at least speak coherent English... but it's best if you just don't try to scam people
If you are worried about how much oil is in engine that you end up over filling it then why not have an auxiliary tank with line running into drain plug. Fill auxiliary tank to same level as full in crankcase. You'll have how ever much oil the auxiliary tank can hold extra!
Lubricated threads require less torque for the same tension. Usually about 20%
There's also a great debate about whether you should or shouldn't lubricate bolts/studs when torquing, because the factory specs might be "dry" while you do the other or vice versa. I've read somewhere it can be a lot more than 20%, but don't quote me on it.
@ correct. Typically the OEM will clarify which to use. Torque Test Channel has great content on this as well.
I think I'd try adding a longer hose to mount the carburetor. To help with low rpm torque. Maybe as much as 6"-8" total length. Use a stop watch and test the acceleration from a stop to a certain speed,or a certain distance. Then test from a start to top speed. It could improve torque across the whole rpm band. Short runners are for high RPM HP. The long large runner should improve low rpm TQ and improve power across the band if it's not too large diameter, the air will get lazy, if the velocity drops so does power the proper length with a good cam , port job, can improve volumetric efficiency to over 100% (a 225cc engine taking in 225cc's of air or more, basically supercharged)
Harbor Freight is having their annual 12 Days of Christmas sale. On Dec 20(9th day of sale) the Predator 212 will be available for $89.99. Lowest in years I believe.
As soon as I saw how muddy the track was I thought you guys might wanna go ahead and swap out that rear tire for the more aggressive looking 1 you loaded up when you left the shop, and may wanna go by a sporting goods store and buy a good pair of cleats to wear like baseball or football shoes to help the rider out as well, mean sounding motor you guys built there, im betting you got 1st place right now before saturdays video, at the very least top 3 👍🏼
A head band light for this stuff would a game changer
Love the video
We always called it gasket matching
Of course the track'll be nice and wet this year after remembering to oil the filter to keep the dust out... :P
John knows all the specs Ike knows how to do it
That inside line was the best line.
@ I raced cross country motocross. Mini bike racing looks fun
if i had the money to build crazy mini bikes and go karts i would have found true peace in life
Yall should do a crazy liquid cooled build for a mini bike
Hey my friend 👋
Dang sounds like a new dirtbike
Really sick bike guys, can't wait to see it race! Also, is that a cbr1000 engine sitting on the table in the background???
Bolt a mud flap on the front mud guard to stop the mud caking the engine area.
lol, as i say that you fit a mud guard. lol
ok guys, hear me out a for a second. Riding in mud sucks, everyone knows that. A pointer or two i can suggest; Keep your feet on the pegs as much as possible. it helps keep the center of gravity low on the bike. 2.) Try to articulate the bike underneath you in the corners. As in dont lean as much with the bike with your body. Try and lean the bike more than yourself. It keeps the center of gravity up and down, loading the edge of the tire.
I think it would be good idea to move your foot pegs back 1 inch. This would make it a bit more stable for you to stand on the rough areas. It would help in the mud some aswell. there's a lot of other good advice I've read aswell. I know you won't be able to make these changes this race but it would be good to try them out before next year.
one way valves in those head/crankcase yellow hoses seems like it would work better keeping it going in a full circle, but I know nothing really.
He’s using his IKE chrometer 🤣🤣😎
I'm sure you've heard it before, but you remind me of Ricky Bobby...Shake'n bake!
Hey love the video
Nice job sweet
Just for reference. Port matching an exhaust to the head will likely loose power not gain.
You want the header to be slightly larger than the port. The step helps reduce the return pulse from the exhaust during cam overlap on a normally aspirated engine.
Yes, and no. Really depends on the shape of the port, and your exhaust diameter. I personally like doing the steps in the exhaust tubing, because it sounds better 😂
That is actually true from what I hear and there was a small step on mine after the flange
Yes you can get hose barbs with 3/8" id
Isaac, you DO want to polish your intake runner. Not doing it is actually srong. If you do not polish the intake runner to help atomization you have a carboror problem!!
Hey I had to run a catch can on mine ever since I added the can no more issues
Look up dry torque and wet torque. There is a difference. Your putting at least 20 percent more torque on the head by adding oil to the threads.
Heck yeah. I'm usually using 20-25ft lbs wet on some of the builds, especially copper head gaskets.
I wonder about ice racing one of these?
Nice
Would it help to put a small elecrtic oilpump and cooler on a race engine like tho one your buildning?
haha i thought i was the only one to "dimple" the muffler to fit the bike, i just bought a exhaust for my mini bike but had to "dimple" it quite a bit to fit lol
21:20 If you lube the bolts or studs, your torque wrench will give you the wrong torque reading-by a lot, about 30% off. Torque Test Channel has an episode on it.
I just learned about the race today and my first thought was suspension. If you're going to be sitting on that bike for a long period of time there's going to be at least one thing that's going to get really tired and what are you going to do with the suspension?
I think next year I will see if I can start a mini bike project
cool
This is the "We miss Charles" button ----->
if you removed all those shaving's from the intake side, your gonna lose velocity coming out of a turn. you would need a 59mm crankshaft to accommodate that many shavings. oh, it's gonna run,no problem with that!
as my mom use to say you boys miss any puddles lol
What's the street bike motor over your shoulder 🧐
Nice, How about a light weight scooter build for an old man, please and thank you 🙏
when are you guys gonna do a reverse trike?
You guys ever try standing the motors upright? Like they do for board track racer builds. I'm curious about the longevity of them in this position.
They was chrome rings to hard to seat.Could use Ajax too..Trick was to do it on the starter with the plugs out..Wasn't real effective but helped. Might go from a quart every 300 miles to quart every 1000.
What is the safest size to drill the center hole for oil return to?( asking for a friend)
👍👍❤️
Not too big. As you saw the center one was smaller than the two on either side of the center
1/4" is generally good. Get a long bit. With a short bit, it can punch through and you might ram the drill chuck into the deck surface and mess it up. Ask me how I know.
❤❤
How many other ppl hit that like button before theve watched an episode
I live in Columbus Georgia, about 1 1/2 hours south of Atlanta and if you guys want a project, I have four two seater go kart two with roll cage and only one has live axle. Two mini bikes one of them is an electric now void of all electric parts. One kids four wheeler void of engine as well. Most have engines and I have a lot of spare Briggs, Honda, predator engines and a lot of parts. I have grandchildren and want them to have fun with them but I have a neurological disorder and cannot work on them anymore. Come help me and you can have everything left over
new rider is lankier then john so think he will do great
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Quick question - why wouldn’t you clearance the piston skirt vs taking material off the cam shaft for clearance? You would get a slightly lighter piston and no compromise of the cam shaft.
Piston skirt was not the issue. It was the rod that was close
Sometimes the piston skirt will hit the counterweight on a stoker crank depending on the piston used and rod length. In that case I will use a longer rod if I have adequate deck clearance or remove material from the crank counterweight. Their issue was the rod hitting the cam though. Very common with billet rods, especially on strokers. You never want to modify the rod though and it is easy enough to take material off the center section of the cam.
Is it possible to balance a camshaft? You know that vibration will tear up anything and I was just wondering is that ever done?
Camshaft doesn't turn fast enough to need balancing
The crank/rod/piston/flywheel assembly is the much bigger issue. You will never perfectly balance a single cylinder engine though unless it has a balance shaft.
Art Teson flywheels belt for more RPMs than other motors
Was that eyecrometer or ikecrometer?
why dont they make a hybrid dirtbike that has a engine and electric motors, imagine the speed and torque
I miss Charles
Bon Ami to hone… wow
Here is a little bit of information for the guy that didn't know but said he did. The BonAmi started with the Saab motor car company back in the 60's for use on their 4 stroke cars. The Americans picked it up when their cylinder walls were harder than the rings they used and the rings would glaze over. Hence Ford started using the BonAmi trick to get the rings to seat and it worked well. Saab put a small can in the glove box of every 4 stroke the sent to the U.S. until the early 70's. Chevrolet didn't have a problem with it, They has a warning to keep the car under 50 for the first 500 miles and not to hold it at 50 but to run it up and down in the speeds while breaking in the engines. So Mr. blurt out the facts was totally wrong. BonAmi was the only glass cleaner that would work on these cars.
Im just stating what i was told by a old timer that said that's what they did at the dealership he worked at. So did he lie to me ? Don't know why he would
@@isaacitllbefine7231 That was ford for their 292 and 312 cu engines . I work for Saab in the 70's and my father work for Saab in the 50's and 60's So believe what you want but I was there so call me a OLD Timer. As soon as we got the cars at the dealership we would pull the BonAmi out of the glove box then start the car and spray the Carb until the can was done.
P.S. Chevrolet started using it with their 348 and 409 Truck engines before they started putting them in the Impala
do u guys ship your merch to canada ?
29:00 y’all also need to rub the oil in with some gloves on.
Ike Got a Bong Bong How Sweet LOL Get a Mans Hair Cut
What's up with that sportbike engine on the table In the background of this vid?
Just another thing you'll see for a year before they do anything about it. Same with the old car on the lift and John's old truck
