  • We hit the California desert to finally test out our #2022tundra #suspension by #icon - This was no ordinary run...we had the opportunity to join some of our friends who each had a #fordraptor. Although the Toyota Tundra is not an OEM performance truck like the Ford Raptor, it performed and handled awesome. We had a such a blast putting it to though its paces.
    Hmmm, I think we are getting some ideas on building a desert Tundra racer.
    If you are interested, the Stage 9 Suspension Kit from Icon Vehicle Dynamics includes:
    * 2.5 Series front coilovers with remote reservoirs for superior damping and vehicle control along with improved shock cooling

    * All shock absorbers equipped with CDC Valves for 10 settings of compression damping adjustment, from soft to hard
    * Tubular UCAs for added strength, durability, and alignment correction for better drivability
    * UCAs feature the patented (U.S. Pat. 10,731,700) Delta Joint Pro with 90 degrees of total articulation
    * Included sway bar drop brackets reduce bind in OE sway bar links
    * Allows for up to 40% increase in front wheel travel over stock without overstressing OE components
    * 2.5 Aluminum Series rear remote reservoir shocks provide increased performance and balanced tune with coilovers
    * All ICON shock absorbers are fully rebuildable and re-tunable

    BTW is that a v6 tundra? That Mitsubishi is nice.

      Ford absolutely created and dominated the off-road performance truck market. Raptors are impressive. Yes, the Tundra is a twin turbo v6. They engine is very smooth with plenty of power 😀!

    There was a time not long ago when you could wheel the Red Canyon trail and not see anyone on the whole stretch.... crazy how busy it is now.

    Awesome video! I did this exact trail down in Anza/ocotillo to plaster city/border back in November with raptors as well. The truck performed excellent! I’m planning to come back and do the entire stretch again with a few more mods.
    Cheers!

    I used to fly across the desert in a Toyota truck I built out with fox shocks, hydraulic bump stops and a full roll cage but frankly I wouldn't feel comfortable going high speeds without a full roll cage as I've seen numerous trucks flip over at high speeds but im talking about going fast even over the very rough stuff. But if you want to go fast I've come to the conclusion its cheaper to just buy a side by side. building up a truck to go fast safely is a Huge money pit and you'll still break things eventually. Your truck suspension is set up perfectly for normal overloading and you'll probably never break it unless you decided to go fast when its too rough.

    • @OpenRoad4Two
      @OpenRoad4Two  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      All very solid points and why we tend to keep things within our comfort zone. Definitely run the risk of damage/breakage every time you go out and we agree, you increase the risk the faster you go.

      Our Taco is our main adventure vehicle. We are keeping the Tundra a truck for truck things…however, we have made some mods to be able to take it out for some fun.

    You may not have been quite as fast but I still choose Toyota over Ford!

    • @OpenRoad4Two
      @OpenRoad4Two  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We knew we wouldn’t go toe to toe with them, but with a few more mods, we think we might be able to hang with a stock Raptor. They were also all more experienced desert drivers and more comfortable pushing their trucks.

      @@OpenRoad4Two I see, so it's space and comfort you want for those longer trips. That's the reason I bought my. f150... for the space but even though im putting a pop top on it I want to try and not put too much in the camper as I don't want to make it too heavy and negatively affect my off road handling. There's always trade offs right?
