    I was scared he wasn’t going to say “alright Brian” cause of the quick intro discussion but I’m relieved to hear we got there in the end

    I have liked and commented! I continue to serve the awe inspiring dungeoncast!
    I am left almost speechless this day milords, I have waited so long. Finally we shall receive boons of knowledge to teach us more of the beholders and their kin! Today is a day long awaited and most grand! For beholders...they are one of the most abhorrent creatures that inhabit the prime material plane. Their evil knows almost as few bounds as their narcissism. One of the few creatures I truly fear to my core. Perhaps I am paranoid myself, but what if one makes its away into our city, or already has and is spreading its corrupting influence? I am a paladin, I lack subtlety. Any external threat to this city I will hurl myself against like a holy lightning bolt to smite down whatever foe threatens our people. An internal threat however? Thats what makes me quiver in my boots. What if there is a beholder spreading its influence within our walls already? Corrupting our leaders, our businesses, our people, like a cancer growing tumors within the city that slowly poison us until we're to weak to even stand anymore, causing our city to fall to its knees before the beholders will. I am not well equipped for such threats, as such I fear them more than almost any other. To make matters worse I am not yet greatly familiar with other beholder variants, having only picked up bits and pieces of information over the years. I know of the death tyrants at least. Im not sure wether they're more, or less terrifying. As a paladin my holy powers are well equipped to deal with the undead, but if a death tyrant should raid our city, should his army of the unliving be to large, can I truly stand alone against hundreds of thousands of monsters made of walking bone, and rotting flesh? At least I shall be better equipped to combat their otherworldly ilk by the end of this year, for finally shall I learn. What a bittersweet pleasure it is to see the year of the beholder. I have waited so long, but now I will have to wait yet another month every time to learn more about them. I have waited this long, I can wait more. Until next week milords, your ever loyal paladin Dorian.
    Ok, got the bit out of the way. That one was fun to write. On a side note, YES! FINALLY! The beholder kin episodes are finally in sight and I can not wait! This would now be the third time I've watched the original beholder episode. That ones an oldie, but a goodie. You might know this already, but the baulders gate beholder is lord xantam. Im all to familiar with him because he was the boss of act 1 of the game baulders gate dark alliance. I love that game to death, but I always struggled with beating him. I remember I had to have my mom help me beat him when I played through the game as a kid. Only boss that I struggled with like that. His voice actor as I recall did a great job of portraying his character.
    Anyway, im rambling now. As much as I'd love to keep rambling on about whatever subject pops into my head to anyone who would listen, I've got a nice big piece of cake to eat in front of me. So have a good day will and brian, and happy year of the beholder!

    On the dragon breath issue, the breath itself isn’t magical (thought it can be used as a conduit), but the internal mechanism generating it is. So like how Firebolt is a spell, but when it’s sets something on fire, that fire is non-magical

    • @Yawyna124
      @Yawyna124 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So "internal mechanism" being... the dragon? This is the lich in the anti-magic sphere question again. I don't know if you've heard that one before, but a similar question on the nature of anti-magic sphere lines up when you suggest that you just drown them in undead that are not presently being animated by a spell.

    Hope muh Dungeoncast dudes aren’t having too much trouble finding ideas for new content to pour out on their channel. I don’t say that because I feel dissatisfied or “cheated” with this video though. I think it was a good call on their part to talk stat blocks and lair effects; I just love watching/listening, have learned a lot and just would like my boys to succeed and grow like they have been. They’ve sure kept me company during this last 2020 year of lockdown and self-isolation (eh I probably would have been doing that anyway though lol).
    I want to say really quick off subject though that I think what THIS channel offers that’s “unique” is an AUDIBLE format of learning the content of the books in a commentary format, with Will pouring out the facts and details, and Brian provoking questions, providing humorous takes to keep the energy going and also provide the perspective of an newer player/DM (helpful with relating to us viewers/listeners here to learn). A lot of other video/audio D&D channels and content out there is either going to be either just raw narration of the book (like an attempt at making the player/DM’s handbook and Monster Manual an audiobook, which is arguably an awkward presentation) OR leans on the other end of the spectrum with the video streamer(s) simply providing “their take” on subjects/ideas (think like a reaction video). Having an option to learn PASSIVELY via listening to DC in the background while working on projects has been helpful since now I don’t have to find myself drawing my full attention and focus towards page-turning and note-taking from the books to learn info, AND (more accurately for me) I don’t risk becoming enthralled by all the cool pictures and crazy ideas that can be found and end up going down a rabbit hole of derailing distractions rather than get the info I intended to from the beginning hours beforehand lol.
    Anyway, I’m not sure if they’ve expressed any intention towards being a “strictly official content” channel/stream, but if not, talking about 3rd party publishers would provide a vast amount of more video content ideas to delve into. Perhaps have playlists associated with more popular publisher names (like Kobold Press) and break these publishers content by subject (maybe videos that speak about “general mechanics changes” or “new/revised class list”, or perhaps “published campaign modules/settings”, etc.). I’m sure they’ve probably considered it before but Hell if not, I’m sure people out here would be pleased to watch/listen to stuff like that too!
    TC everyone and keep pressin’ on muh Dungeon doodz. Loving your content and hope the ride keeps riding!

    I just came to the realization that the Beholder was purposefully designed to be so intelligent and calculating so that the DM can design the encounter to be the perfect counter or challenge no matter what the players think of.
    Players want to teleport in on dinosaurs armed with laser pistols? Cool, he just so happens to have an EMP generator and his minions are armed with rods that can cast dominate beast.
    The Beholder is so intelligent such that it forces the players to fight it on its (and by extension, the DM's) terms and resort to traditional dice and strategy combat. A bit railroady of an encounter I guess, but it makes perfect sense.

    The beholder is a great enemy however if you have a large party it's one that would benefit greatly with lower level ads to keep the adventurers on their toes

    I was in a 3.5 game playing a warlock rogue we were like level 7 or 8 and had never run from an encounter when three beholder and a bunch of mobs wondered out we were in a surprise round because of our stealth and I looked at the party and said we need to leave now we fled the battle thank God I had rolled boss rolls on hide move silently and perception and was able to spot them before they spotted us we ended up fighting dragons and eventually gods in that campaign but we ran from the beholders

      Look for groups on Facebook or redit. You can play on roll20.com. you can do character creation on roll20 or D&Dbeyond. There is also a plug in for crome called beyond 20 that you can used the character you created on d&dbeyond for roll20.
      There are loads of people always looking for groups to play and most are happy to take on people new to D&D.

    One thing that's weird to me is that they are lawful evil.. these are some of the most chaotic creatures in dnd. How are they lawful.

    • @corvuslycastus9018
      @corvuslycastus9018 ปีที่แล้ว

      They seem chaotic because they are insane, but they are lawful in regards to their own standards. They create their own rules and terms for reality, and that's the law they follow. If I'm not mistaken, that's the core definition of the alignment lawful evil. Evil as hell, and follows their own ideals and rules. It doesn't have to make sense to anyone else, it makes sense to them.
