I like how concerned our knowledgable host was when he thought his disciple hated the Gazers; he seemed truly shocked and somewhat horrified. His relief when the statement was modified was similarly amusing.

Hey guys! In your Centaurs of Theros video you mentioned how much you appreciated comments simply saying "thank you", so I wish to tell you how much I appreciate what you are doing. I got pretty isolated during the pandemic, sometimes even two weeks can pass without me seeing a human being, and no lie, that can be depressing. Friends and family aren't always available for some chat, and that's when your videos help me. A lot.
The content is great, you both have a nice and pleasant voice, and I love how your enthusiasm about D&D hasn't waned throughout the years. You seem to be such decent, clever and likeable people, and most of all, you got this amazing dynamic between you that's unique to great friends, and that's what I like the most. Listening to you is like being among friends, which is an experience I truly miss. You always cheer me up, and reassure me that there are still aspects of life that go on like they normally used to.
So thank you, thank you, and thank you! For me, you are among those small, but important things in everyday life that make it worth going :)

I know this isn't supposed to be a Forgotten Realms pod, but I really appreciate showing love to the 3.5 monsters. Really great stuff fellows, keep it coming.

I ran two whole campaigns (levels 1 to 20) using XP, and honestly, since switching to milestone, things have been so much easier to run. When DMing a campaign with XP you have just this extra thing to keep track of yourself and a lot of times it even becomes a restraint. I often ran into situations where there were these cool encounters I would plan, but then I realized if I used it, the party would level up before the boss fight, or whatever. It also incentivized a particular playstyle among players, that being "kill everything" that made it harder to do more interesting things like throwing encounters at them that they should flee from, getting them to focus on objectives over killing enemies, etc.
I have a player that is more of a powergamer who I know likes XP more, since the party leveled faster that way and he on a couple occasions managed to game the system to get XP faster (he had a lot of fun with that even if no one else did), but everyone else is either indifferent to the change or prefers milestone.
As a DM, switching to milestone has left me a lot more free to make a wide variety of cool and interesting encounters and events while still maintaining a good pace for the campaign, so I VASTLY prefer milestone over XP.

Super glad you covered the beholder stuff. This is my first episode. First time being a DM and I am running Dragon Heist. Tonight my party encounters a gazer!

Listen to your podcast searched on TH-cam to tell you about the gazer I gave my players.
Happy puppy that constantly mocks them, it is a bag of holding (where does it food go pocket dimension) so it doesn’t need to hold rations or organic stuff. All items have to be regurgitated to retrieve. It is old and used to belong to a wizard so slightly more intelligent

Hey guys, im a new member of patreon, just joined this month.
Ive enjoyed all the bonus content and currently catching up on FBATS.
Im looking forward to a shoutout in a future video and always love listening to your podcasts while i work.
To answer the xp question, i am currently making a homebrew Naruto D&D game, titled
    "World of Naruto: Shinobi Legends"
In this game i will be tracking xp for the shinobi to advance.
Xp will be achieved through completing assigned missions and defeating enemies.
This way the players can also get xp by going to the training grounds to challenge fellow shinobi of the same village, just like naruto ninjas always training to surpass eachother before going on missions.
Alright thats all ive got to say for this one, you guys are awesome and you are the inspiration for myself and my friends getting involved in d&d.
    Thanks guys.

I have liked and commented! I continue to serve the dungeoncast!
Yeah I dont have much to say this week. Although thinking of a beholder getting its eye stalks ripped off reminds me of evil eyes from dragons dogma. Basically beholders that have stalks, but instead of eyes they have mouths on the end of their stalks. Their one eye is inside of their mouth too.
Gougers also sound like they're the beholder equivalent of the terminator from terminator 3.

As you asked for XP usage - I use it for encounter balancing. For leveling I much prefer milestone or checkpoint level ups. The only game I DM with XP is Tomb of Annahilation because it says so and I had no reason to handle it differently (whereas in my own games I have the level ups along the story / in special moments)

I use XP, but only for some adventures. Out of the Abyss doesn't have recommended level ranges as far as I can tell. Homebrew as well I tend to keep it EXP based. Published adventure? Milestone all the way.

Used XP system when that was the official way of doing it. Now I've only had to do XP math when a character draws a card from the Deck of Many Things and it specifically alters XP.

I would love to see character classes that were intertwined with beholders or beholderkin. Like druid of the Far Realm or a Sorcerer who was an intelligent Gazer that transformed.
