    James, I appreciate that you don’t take money from companies for reviews, but I still feel like you treated this review with baby hands. Maybe you want to keep a good relationship to receive more products from them in the future, maybe you have gone soft. A sight that loses zero and shifts is absolutely unacceptable. I shouldn’t need a tool kit to run drills at the range. I cannot believe you basically gave it a recommendation for its price point. If it was a Taurus everyone would be jumping on it and saying how’s it a piece of junk. However, a KelTec with a subpar coating, outdated grip safety, mushy trigger, and unreliable sights seems to get a “preference” pass on this one. If you are hiding anything in those short shorts, stand strong to make companies do better.

      That's a fair assessment. Obviously I think this was a level review when I'm forming my opinion relative to cost. For what you get at (what will probably be) less than $400 street, I think I can live with having to get the sight fixed (or setting it in place). I may have just had a bad one. At the end of the day, I presented you the factual truth and I gave you my assessment. You are free to make your own assessment and disagree with mine, but the important part is that I gave you all of the facts, good or bad, and you can form your own opinion from that and discard mine. Bottom line; I think there's a lot of value here for what it's probably going to street for. It's certainly not a Sig or a Glock, but it does offer a lot of features (TFO nightsights, 4" barrel, low weight, high capacity) for the price.
      Thanks for sharing your opinion of my review somewhat respectfully.

      “Good evening, TFBTV fans. This pistol is junk. Until next time, goodnight.”
      He did a fair assessment, and in reality, he can hit a target accurately with a sub 4lb trigger. Therefore it still beats a name brand like the P365 SAS.
      I like it and I like the review. It’s like McDonald’s. It’s so subjective. Is a cheap McMuffin and hash browns actually very good or the worst sandwich and breakfast on the planet? It is cheap garbage, yet … is it?
      Edit: grammar

      "I don't like your review" watches the whole thing and then writes a book about it. Seems that James knows what he's talking about, since 1.25 million people have taken the time to smash that "Subscribe Button". And he also put the P15 in the category of Hi-Point!

      Shorter barrel and longer grips make sense when you are a police officer or military open carrying: you get two extra rounds and the short barrel not only is easier to clear the holster, but it also won’t rest on the vehicle seat and dig the rear of the slide against your flank.

      I think Glock would of had some awesome sales if they offered a G19 with a G26 length frame. I saw a custom made one using a G19 with a chopped frame. It looked really slick.
      Probably too late now, as even the small G26 isn't that compact compared to newer models from other manufacturers.
      I was however intrigued by the new Taurus GX4L. It's the 11rnd Taurus GX4 with a longer slide.

    • @jstud999
      @jstud999 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree with you 100% I’ve been saying the same thing. Some Insight I got from a source I have at Glock says the reason they came out with the 45 after the 19x was specifically ment to be a LEO sidearm but also sold on the civilian market. For cops who are open carrying on the hip from what I’m told the shorter barrel and slide helps with little things like getting in and out of the car without the gun hitting the seat. I guess it makes sense but then we see companies like Taurus following the trend knowing damn well no police department is carrying around taurus g3x or whatever they call them.
      Hopefully Glock comes out with a “17x” 17 slide on a 19 frame and I’d buy it asap.

    I got one of the first ones in 1995...while not great I never found the trigger horrible. When I finally got a trigger scale it came out at about 8.5#. And now I have a trigger kit to lighten it anyway!

So tired of people not either knowing or acknowledging that Keltec had a sub-compact before the P365. For that matter, so did SCCY-CPX2 which I also carry. The triggers are decent when you get used to them. It took some getting used to with the Hellcat and the R7 Mako. I think Keltec products are great. George Kellgren didn't invent the Tec-9. He invented the KG-99 at Interdynamic. The KG-99 was copied by Intratec and made the Tec-9 and cheaply with stamped instead of milled sights and a crimped trunnion instead of welded. Kelgren had sold his business to Garcia his partner who named it Intratec and who cheaped out on production quality.

  • @pavegray

    My primary carry is a Keltec PF-9 (7+1 - the single stack to the P-11) and has been for years (11 years). I have put more rounds through it than I can count without an issue. I bought it brand new in 2011 for $235.00. Only thing I have upgraded is the sights. I always carry an extra magazine when carrying with it due to capacity limitation however. I have Glocks and many other carry pistols but this is usually my daily.
    It is one of the lowest profile and comfortable guns I carry in a good kydex holster, and is dead reliable. Is the trigger shit? Yes, but if you practice and learn it you know the take up and break point and it is not much of an issue in close defensive drills. If I need concealability in nothing but a t-shirt and jeans/shorts without print and tell, this is it.
    Best part? Made in the USA in the free state of Florida.
    I will be purchasing a PF-15 if I can find it.

Bought mine few weeks after debut for 299$ and id make that transaction again today without hesitation. finger ext fits my hand well enough, although its not a weapon i go "enjoy shooting" for an afternoon, its very manageable for what it is. couple buddies tried to pick on it at a bbq one day (one carries a glock subcompact the other an XD sub (my other favorite little guy) and put some beer money on a single shot from 50-ish yards at a dr.peppr can hangin in a tree... they emptied both guns without scratching the can, pulled my little terrible trigger 2'' barrel and put a +P hollow point right through the big D. no matter what you prefer to carry, you cant rely on it unless you put in the work to shoot it reliably.

      The trigger sounds like the trigger on my LCP Max. A friend who has had firearms for 40+ years looked at me when it did not fire for her at the range. I said just keep pulling on the trigger and it will fire. I like the sights on the LCP Max. I have read that they are an improvement over prior LCP model sights. MCarbo just released a trigger spring kit for the LCP Max. While the spring kit may improve the trigger pull for firing the gun I am a little concerned that it may make it too light especially for pocket carry.

    • @Bojangles6
      @Bojangles6 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Ray Kettel is the lcp max hammer or striker fired? I had an original lcp first Gen for awhile, also had a hammer fired s&w bodyguard. The p11 is also hammer fired, but about twice as heavy as the others. I promise the lcp max isn't as bad as the p11. I carry a p365xl now. I would say the trigger is 5lbs. It's safe but you can't just throw it in your pocket. A proper holster is very important, but it's alot more firepower and easier to shoot than the sub compacts.

    • @raykettel1837
      @raykettel1837 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Bojangles6 The LCP Max is like the LCP II--both are hammer fired. S&W EZ is hammer fired too but the trigger is much better than on the LCP Max. The trigger on the Canik Rival is much lighter and has a crisp break and quick reset--very different than LCP Max and Taurus G3 series. It is great for IDPA/USPSA It too is much easier to shoot than the compact and micro handguns I have used at a range. The Shield Plus that someone lent me at the range may have been the exception. Other than a little muzzle snap due to its size I was right on target with all three shots and the trigger was nice. I always need a few first practice shots at range to get proper trigger pulls on my LCP Max and G3c. My LCP Max is placed in a pocket holster when I carry it in my pocket of my shorts in the summer so it should be safe if the Mcarbo kits lightens the trigger some. The LCP Max's other trigger issue is that many find it pinches their finger. Someone suggested trimming off the sharp edges. I did that to the trigger and also found that it eliminated the pinching. One reviewer said they got a blister on their finger after firing ~300 rounds during their testing. My finger was starting to hurt after just ~20 rounds before I removed the sharp edges.

    The p11 is the OG. It pioneered the removable chassis, high cap micro nine. it is the only piece I have with a belt clip attached, because it is highly functional.
    The kahr pistol was introduced the same year, but it was heavy and expensive and less reliable.

    I appreciate what you mentioned about let user decide if he wants a longer or shorter mag but make the barrel longer and that is the easy part to conceal. James, I had the P11, and aside from 2 issues would still have it today. The first was it literally took the hide of my thumb knuckle but the killer for me was it shot several inches low at 7 yds. No matter which sight I put in it. I had different rear sights I got from Kel Tec. With that I lost confidence and traded it off. But it NEVER FAILED TO FIRE! Never failed extraction or chambering a round. At those most essential tasks it was as good or better than any of the top tier guns.
    And Shooting Surplus offered a 15 round mag for it which was a M59 mag with a glued on sleeve.
    Like you, I prefer a short grip with longer slide/bbl configuration. It is so annoying that the locking blocks for the G17 and G19 are different. I’d gladly sport a “G19L”.

    I've had a P-11 for a decade. It ain't pretty, but I have never had a failure to feed, fire, or eject. That trigger pull is hefty, but useable. My gripe is the 5¢ mushy plastic sights on the gun. Stock sights shoot a foot low at 50 ft out of mine, and the soft plastic won't keep them from sliding sideways with a gentle nudge. Epoxy fixed the shifting, but at a ten foot defensive distance, sights won't be an issue.

    Had two P11s the first, a "Blued" version rusted almost instantaneously and had feeding issues, even after I polished the feed ramp. The second one had a nickel-finished slide and barrel. Zero issues. I carried twelve-round mags and fitted it with a belt clip which eliminated the need for a holster and appendix carried it. As someone who used to carry the Beretta 92D as a duty gun, the 10lb trigger wasn't a big deal, in fact, it ensured no ADs. Sold it to my boss. Wish I had it back.

    Some points: I've owned several Kel-Tec pistols (P-32, P-11, P-9, P-40) and NONE of them have proven completely reliable. The P-32 was reliable enough that I was comfortable carrying it, but Kel-Tec bought back the P-40 after failing to make it reliable enough to fire a whole magazine without a jam after three trips back for repair. I currently own a Springfield XDM, a Springfield Hellcat, and a CZ-P01, all of which have been 100% reliable right out of the box with any ammo I've put through them.
    The longer-barrel, shorter butt concept is a valid one. Greater accuracy and velocity with very little decrease in concealability. I would carry the P-15 with a 12-rd flush fitting magazine for concealability, with a 15-rd magazine as a spare. I especially like the grip safety, with the option to deactivate it. However, those who carry a P-15 for "serious social occasions" should be aware that deactivating any safety feature on a carry firearm leaves one liable to not-so-subtle innuendos from an opposing attorney in both criminal and civil court should the weapon be used for its intended purpose. FWIW.
