    Having worked for 37 years as a printer, and now doing something completely differend, i am only a bid jealous of you. Because, compared to what i'm doing right now for a living, this is almost an artform. If it was only for the sound of an Heidelberger printing press, sure brings back a lot of memories. Thanks for that.

    Very nice, the rhythm of the presses are relaxing and how you mix colors and make precise adjustments easily is nice to watch. Maybe an introduction to the machines would be interesting too.

    When I was in my early 20's I had a friend of mine who worked for a small mom and pop print shop in town. Sometimes I would go over there and hang out with him and help him out when he was working by himself. I was always in awe at how those machines work. I worked for a police dept at the time and we used a lot of paper forms, particularly carbonless ones in triplicate. I remember watching him make some carbonless forms and thinking "oh so that's how its done". It truly is an art form and one that we take for granted.

    Is it possible to do a breakdown video about the rough costs for such an extensive print-job. would be interresting for me how you would go and calculate something this large.

    • @TheInreamir

      total cost of raw materials (paper, inks, chemicals, plates etc) + electricity and all other miscellaneous costs + labour cost + profit

      and it takes about 10-12 minutes for a 1000 sheet job to finish. I usually print 30+ jobs everyday.

    I've once been to a die cutting shop using heidelbergs, he simply made the plywood holding the die cover almost the entire area of the chase. Granted most of his orders were bigger sheets, but it seems like a better solution to me, compared to saving a couple cents in plywood and having it slip.

    What kind of ruler were you using when measuring the paper size? also THIS PROCESS WAS SO INTERESTING (and surprisingly cool).

    • @JukeboxPrintLive
      @JukeboxPrintLive  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's an 18 inch Gaebel Line Guage 612-H. I use it because I'm stuck in my traditional typesetting ways. Lead type and spacing all adhere to the measurements of Points and Picas. I find millimeters are too big for really tight work and points/ picas fit with the imperial system (1 point = 1/72, 12pts = 1 pica, 12 picas = 1 inch). I'm big fan of duodecimal or dozenal notation so anything that fits into 12 makes me happy.

    • @JukeboxPrintLive
      @JukeboxPrintLive  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      On larger quantity jobs, the ink duct is usually dialed in to control the overall ink density. Without using that, we do often need to top up the ink on the main cylinder. Roughly every 300 impressions or so!

    • @JukeboxPrintLive
      @JukeboxPrintLive  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We usually shoot for a safety net of about 10% extras but smaller orders get more. If you want us to make you ONE card, we'll likely make 25 or 50 of them just to account for any trouble. That way if something goes wrong we won't have to set the job up again.
