I've got my laser bear BlueRetro mod with a PowerA bluetooth switch controller and I've been using it for 2 days - it's pretty fantastic, few teething problems, but feels really nice at the moment!
Power A's triggers aren't analog though. If you like the the actual gamecube controller the only option is still a wavebird. Otherwise you lose analog control on the triggers.
@@timhouston8007 This is always such a bummer to me - I want a fully modern controller in the GameCube layout with analog triggers. Hopefully made by 8BitDo, as their controllers are excellent quality compared to other manufacturers.
Apart from the ease of installation, my favorite fact about this mod is that you can still use your wired GameCube controller. You never know when your Bluetooth controller might need a recharge at an inopportune moment 😅
Yet another amazing video. This brings the GameCube up to date in the best ways possible. Including the battery holder shows how much Greg cares about gaming. All these wonderful mods make it an exciting time to be gamer.
My funny way of doing that up until now was to use a Raphnet GC to Classic Controller cable, then sticking an 8Bitdo classic controller wireless adapter to the end of it. It actually works with GameCube! But this will be a much more elegant solution.
So excited to see this mod! I've been following BlueRetro for a while and love the idea so much. Maybe we'll get more adapters in the future for other consoles?
Great. DarthCloud puts a lot of effort in BlueRetro project, it's a joy to see such massive mods come into life. Personally i'm using blueretro for ps2 wich i've built myself using esp32 dev board. The best thing about BlueRetro is that if you don't want to spend money then this mod can be super cheap, or contrary expensive and elegant like this GC kit. Best of both worlds and anyone can be happy with it. Also i want to add that esp32 board is very popular novadays in retroscene, but most of the devs involved (unlike DarthCloud) do not make it opensource. For example both Saturn (Fenrir 20pin) and PSX (Xstation) ODE's use esp32 and in theory could be DIY for just a few bucks, but they are not. Sadly.
I understand from the developers point of view I think it’s good to not open source, sometimes so they can be compensated for their work. I hope once they’re done supporting their projects that they will eventually make it open source so that the work isn’t lost forever.
While this kit may seem expensive I really think it’s a bargain. Buy the time you add up the cost of the esp32, battery mod, led light mod, solder, flux, wires, and time involved to install everything properly it really adds up.
@@stephenshelottiii3272 Yeah, I built a BlueRetro adapter for PlayStation 1 and 2, and was surprised at how much money I put in to finally get it finished and working. It's not cheap. $100 for this kit looks like a bargain to me too.
@@haloharry97 Isn't that battery for the features of this mod? Or is there one of those batteries in stock systems that are long dead that this essentially replaces?
I've been waiting for this for so long! I mean, I know most people just play their gamecube games in their wii, but I never got a wii, nor did I want one. And now being able to play melee and other games in an actual gamecube using my ps4 controller? No cables? No AA batteries? BUT ALSO RUMBLE?! This is a dream.
Amazing mod, especially for being solder free. I wonder how those switch GC BT controllers are on latency. I was surprised to see PS4/5 being so low with everything else being twice as slow or worse
I cant believe more folks aren't talking about one of THE biggest pros to the BlueRetro GC adapters... Guys, this thing pairs with Bluetooth keyboards and works FLAWLESSLY with Phantasy Star Online!!!! No more need to buy that chonky $300 Ascii keyboard controller!!!!
I wanna try to use the Exlene GameCube controller for the Switch with this mod. That controller has analog triggers, rumble, usb-c and charging. Hopefully it could be the ultimate wavebird replacement
Wonder if it would work with the strange hyperkin pro cube controller that only syncs with the Wii u even though it came out after March 2017 (that's when the Switch came out)
This is such a cool idea although I think you would also be cool if they offered other solutions such as a Bluetooth dongle for controllers, that way people can still use Bluetooth controllers with their GameCube even if they don't want to modify it.
There already are, you can wire up to 4 controllers to a single esp32 devboard, or even have breakout PCBs (let's you carry the esp32 module between systems, so you don't need to re-pair your controllers if you use it on say your GC and SNES). It can be a tad costly, I ordered parts for 3 of the main PCBs, 3 adapter boards for GC, some LEDs and resistors, and resin 3d printed shells for all 6 (well 10 of each of those, same cost as 3). All in it was about $230-$250 us. Probably a lot cheaper if you 3d print the cases yourself, but my printer was down
gamecube getting tons of love lately. New and improved way to run swiss with the pico chip, and now bluetooth controller options. Makes getting into the gamecube much more affordable, and if i already didnt have a wavebird id say just spend the extra 20 to get this kit.
I have so many questions. *Is rumble supported on all questions? *Are there any known controllers that don’t work? *Does the sleep function cause the disc to stop spinning entirely? *Or Does the sleep function only work when using a game loader (GDEmu, Swiss wPico, Swiss wSD Gecko) *Does the GCDual recognize this as a valid controller to modify the options?

I can't think of a more perfect mod; no cut, no solder, good quality, and more functionality than "just" Bluetooth. I understand that not everyone would be using the playstation controller but the color matching would still an awesome touch.
Man, will there ever be another renaissance for vintage gaming like we've had the last 5 years?!?! The retro tech is coming nonstop from these awesome engineers in the community 👏👏 What a time to be alive!
I got a GameCube off of ebay with a busted disk drive a couple of months ago and I plan on Modding it with both GC Loader PNP and this Blue Tooth adapter.
Awesome video and thanks for sharing this modification. I will be ordering 2 kits, for my US and Japanese DOL-001’s. I previously ordered the ODE SD card mount from this company and had a good experience. Thanks.
Wow what a product! The price tag seems fair given what you get. The fact that it's plug and play alone gives it a high price tag, but then when you went into all the quality of life features, it's totally worth it. Just when I thought my cube was fully modded! (I feel like I just commented this on one of your videos)
While justifying the purchase of something like this comes down to "Cause it's cool!" The easy install, the versatility, and the fact I could potentially use a Switch Pro Controller or even Joy-Cons (assuming that's in the github) I could finally play GBA games with a better feeling controller than what I use now! I love it!
If I have that mod and a gamecube, I will take it a step further by drilling the indicator dots and put the LED there. Thank you so much for this wonderful video.
You can always just shorten the antenna wire yourself with a little bit of solder work to reconnect the ends and use heat shrink to protect the joints.
been watching it on twitter. so glad it was finally put up for sale. $100 well spent. makes it easier to play gamecube on a projector since i wouldnt have to worry about cords.
I feel like the the LED colors should rather be red for player one and blue for player two, to match the multiplayer colors that multiple GC games used. Outside of that, I so want one of these now.
Imagine this kind of update for systems that only had two controller ports but supported multi-taps. Imagine four M30s seamlessly connect to your Sega Genesis after you've inserted NHL 94 in the cartridge slot. Racing wheel support would be a game changer for experiencing games like Gran Turismo 3 on PS2 on original hardware. At $100 a piece, I could see myself adding this to every console I own, honestly. Modern quality of life improvements like this are underrated on home consoles.
Congrats on the 100K - i remember when you were at 800 subs :) Great video and a sweet upgrade. Was thinking of getting a wave bird but this is a great option as I have Ps4 controllers around
You have to take apart your GameCube as well as any retro and modern consoles. Why? Because you need to really clean them inside specially the fans. Spraying some pressure air into the consoles open vents does nothing but to push more dust into them. I recommend opening your console for cleaning once a month or every two months. Also get familiar with soldering, specially on retro machines. They will need repairs eventually.
I love this mod! It’s just awesome!! I can understand the price and it worth it but I really can’t spend that much on a old console when i can just plan over a emulator already with ps4/5 controller. But if I had enough money I would buy it in a instand! :)
The fact that this replaces the original controller board meaning I don't have to solder on a new real time clock battery is great! My GC's battery is dead as a doornail and only advances while the system is actively powered on, unlike the Wii which takes the residual power from the PSU to prevent having to take power from the CR2032 battery. The Bluetooth controller functionality is also really well thought out. It's a tad pricey for my budget but this is definitely something to think about for long-term usability of the console.
Man, wasn't someone working on a Pico integrated Controller board? If only that could be merged into here, then you'd truly have the ultimate GameCube.
I would like to point that on twitter there is a discussionfor integrating the BlueRetro with a Raspi Pico, so you can obtain BT controllers and homebrew loading capability.
Recently purchased another used GC console due to getting a good deal on it which I originally intended on applying the Pico mod to, but this additional BT mod came out of left field which took me by surprise. When this finally comes to market, I will definitely be in line for one, but not at the starting price of $100. H3ll, I only paid $65 in total for the GC with 2x add'l controllers and a Wavebird missing the receiver.
You’re not paying for parts alone. People work hard to develop these mods, bring them to us for purchase and continue to support and update them. That’s what you’re paying for. And a wave bird without a receiver is a decorative paperweight.
@@mattakadanja there are other alternate methods to achieve wireless connectivity using a GC controller on a GC, and you can spin it however you want, but in my opinion spending/investing $100 on said mod to use on a used, 2nd-hand GC I don't think is a good use of my money regardless of what the mod has to offer when there are other superior modern day methods to play GC games which are more easily practical to employ and offer better quality of life improvements. I'm very aware that my Wavebird is useless w/o a receiver which was only secondary to the point I was making in my original comment since it was bundled in w/ the used GC lot I purchased, but you don't have to sound so much like a shill 😅😆😂
This is amazing and I'm 100% on board with this so excited The only thing that's kind of bittersweet for me is I bought a ton of wave bird controllers and as we all know those things are not cheap but this is a great mod and thank you for sharing I'm just getting into this whole entire community and I'm a complete noob I'm not good with computers whatsoever so thank you again for this

I don't know why you have to press all those buttons for sleep mode. Especially when the PS button, L1, and share button are unused. Can this be changed in the settings for a more custom sleep mode button press?
This is absolutely amazing! A few months ago I was on a quest to add wireless functionality to all of my retro consoles. Almost every one of them (even the more obscure ones like Neo Geo and PCE) had a plug and play adapter, but GameCube strangely was missing an easy solution. BlueRetro existed but it was only an open source DIY solution. There wasn't anything really commercially available. But now this kit comes along and surpasses all of my wildest expectations. Fully integrated bluetooth in a drop-in kit and packed with other features. I can't wait to get my hands on it! I would love to see if it pairs with an 8Bitdo GBros adapter. That's kind of the dream, to have an OEM controller playable wirelessly just like a Wavebird, but with rumble!
I'd guess it was missing a solution you were after as there's Wavebird controllers which has probably meant it's not been much of a priority for anyone. This does look great though.
Am I not the only one that had MAJOR input delay with the GBros adapter (used w/Switch)? (I haven't used it since 2019 maybe so perhaps fw updates fixes this... But has anyone done lag-testing w/GBros?
That’s honestly amazing that you can do that with any Bluetooth controllers to a console that old with only one change. Is there any easier way to get Bluetooth for a GameCube?
This looks really cool, I probably will get it just for easy wireless controller connectivity at some point but I need to take it easy for a bit haha. The fact its such an easy install too is just so wonderful I cannot express how elegant that design is. The fine folks who designed this are some really great engineers I'll tell you hwat.
The internal battery in my Gamecube has been dead for a long while, so this is right up my valley to easily replace that with the bonus of being able to use controllers I personally prefer over the Gamecube's.
Hello Tito, quick question regarding the "Sleep" functionality. Is it really a sleep function as you would have from other consoles, where you can resume your game where you left it? Or is more of a "Stand By" function in which you can power on the console through the controller? Thank you !!!

Little follow up, just installed it and I absolutely love it
Pre-ordered mine and subscribed. Love these mod videos.
Awesome! Thank you so much for the sub 🙏
Amazing to see how easy the install will be. Excited to order one.
About time to get this Silver GameCube out of the freezing shed! Just got mine in the mail, revolutionary mod no cap
let me tell it to you this way. I paused the video within the first few min to go order one! I can't wait to get my hands on one!
Congrats on the 100K - i remember when you were at 800 subs :) Great video and a sweet upgrade. Was thinking of getting a wave bird but this is a great option as I have Ps4 controllers around
Thanks for this video. I've been seeing this pop up on twitter but wasn't entirely sure what its capabilities were.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
I got mine pre ordered :-), great video brother
Nice!
This is amazing! Ive been debating on whether or not i wanted to invest in wave bird controllers but this solves that problem.
I'm not keen on taking my Gamecube apart, but this is so damn cool! I'm kinda tempted.
Just pre-ordered and am stoked for November's release!
This looks awesome, definitely installing it eventually
Amazing mod! Unfortunately, I prefer my modded Wii over the GameCube. Otherwise, I'd be all over this
When Tito explained the Sleep Mode function I had to laugh. Those button inputs just kept going 🤣
This is amazing and I'm 100% on board with this so excited The only thing that's kind of bittersweet for me is I bought a ton of wave bird controllers and as we all know those things are not cheap but this is a great mod and thank you for sharing I'm just getting into this whole entire community and I'm a complete noob I'm not good with computers whatsoever so thank you again for this
Awesome mod! 🤩
Totally agree!
GOODBYE EXPENSIVE WAVEBIRDS !
HELLO BLUE RETRO ! 👍
Great work as always with the video product and the information. What’s an incredible product too. The retro gaming scene keeps evolving for the better.
This is amazing! I don't have to hunt for that expensive Horii SNES-style controller from my GB Player games!
See, now I'm sitting here wondering if this could be done to the Panasonic Q. It's already got pretty blue lights around the controller ports...
That’s actually a really good question. I’m not sure if it would work. Hopefully LaserBear can chime in.
@@MachoNachoProductions I'm sure there would be bodging involved. I'm just not sure I'm mentally ready to take my Q apart again after I just fixed the rails and drive belt.
I wish the PS2 had the same level of awesome mods as the GameCube has.
The sleep function is the main attraction for mel
I'm like 90% sure the gbros is listed as compatible in a Twitter thread about it! But of course, I can't seem to find it right now.
I'd guess it was missing a solution you were after as there's Wavebird controllers which has probably meant it's not been much of a priority for anyone. This does look great though.
@@fraggle200 was coming to say this.
Am I not the only one that had MAJOR input delay with the GBros adapter (used w/Switch)? (I haven't used it since 2019 maybe so perhaps fw updates fixes this... But has anyone done lag-testing w/GBros?
I would have liked an USB port for wired controllers like fightsticks or steering wheels, but that might not be possible with the existing hardware
Whoooah, incredible. I didn’t know there was a sleep mode via Swiss! Is that only usable with this kit? This just shot to the top of my list.
Awesome! It’s definitely a great kit!
Love my modded GC. Can’t wait to put this bad boy into it and have a more modernized GameCube.
This is a really well-done mod wow
Hello Tito, quick question regarding the "Sleep" functionality. Is it really a sleep function as you would have from other consoles, where you can resume your game where you left it? Or is more of a "Stand By" function in which you can power on the console through the controller? Thank you !!!
Unfortunately it isn’t. It’s more like turning the console on and off. You can’t resume gameplay
Who else felt the deja vu when he repeated the lines about botched wires and soldered stuff @3:25
Very cool now I just have to decide which of my GameCube’s to add this on. “Simply incredible” says it all
I love it! Thanks macho.
Glad you enjoyed this one 😁🙏
Super clean! Man, I bet laser bear could also make that esp32 also handle picoboot duties
