Cord 100V to Cordless 20v Hedge Trimmer Conversion | RYOBE HT-3010

- This is an outdated power tool, it is abandoned in Japan. It is difficult to use a 100v hedge trimmer outside or away from a power source while there are a lot of cordless power tool are made. It's gear, blade, switch and plastic case are good, just upgrade the motor and add battery, it will work like a new power tool. That is the reason I convert and rename this tool to 20V Max Cordless Hedge Trimmer. After testing, everything are okay except the battery adapter. The battery isn't strongly attach to power tool body. I need to redesign it.

-5 Lithium battery 18650 3.7V 3400mAh 3C discharge rate
-1 5S BMS 21V 20A

-1 Male 1 Female power plug

You never cease to amaze me! Not only did You make universal type of connector to Your tool, but You made it so You can connect even bigger battery packs. Too bad we didn't get to see motor rewinding, but maybe in future video. Keep making these tools Sir, because You are amazing!

Just one thing. I've also used the same tipe of plugs in conversions and the problem is there will always be somebody who tries to plug that to mains power.

Great work as always. One little thing I noticed: on the metal plate you mounted the connector I think you should add a grommet to the hole with the wires because as the tool vibrates the metal can rub the insulations of the wires.

10:18 I believe those cells are only rated for 4.8 amps maximum discharge so be careful that you don’t cut through to heavy of brush as you might overload the cells

excellent work as always. i have a question about battery rebuilding. i have a mini screw driver working 1.2v(ni-cd) *4= 4.8v power. How can i rebuild this battery with lithium ion battery cell ? Any suggestion ?

Morning!
The original motor is a 'universal motor' it will run on AC or DC.
If you connect the field windings in parallel with the armaturre, it should run reasonable well
For a bit more power, seprate the field windings, and connect those in parallel too (you have to get the polarity phased correctly)

That is a awesome trimmer. All metal gears and bearings is a great tool! My recharable trimmer(from Amazon cost me $69) has nothing but white plastic nylon parts(except for motor). And takes 3 hours to charge and only last 10 minutes. How long does your trimmer run on one charge?
Because of the battery cells, you can replace them with large capacity like mine 3400mAh. For this tool I use dc motor 100w with the battery pack 3.4Ah that can make power 20V x 3.4Ah = 68Wh, so the time is 68Wh / 100W ~ 0.68h ~ 40.8 mins

Hi. I have NCR 18650B like you..I see the datasheet it has only 5A.. the battery pack is getting hot?? Btw, is it possible to parallel w/ NCR 18650 (12A) -2900mah I plan to use for grinder or circular saw (that's hunger power). Thanks

NCR18650B cells are only rated for 6.8A max discharge (2C) so you're only getting around 120W max continuous output from 5 cells...

How long did the batteries last with this? Maybe a small backpack/バックパック バッテリー battery with a cord wire running up your arm would allow you to use bigger battery pack?
I use 100W dc motor with 20V 3.4Ah that can power 68Wh, so it will run 68Wh/100w ~ 0.68h ~ 40min. A small backpack is great idea, I appreciate your sharing.

Well these are from what I know Universal Motors. AC / DC does not matter they will spin, so what you would have to change was the Kv of the motor. But hey! Cool video bruh!
