      I live in Cascais, I think you will love it here. There is a lot of construction going on, the main supermarket is expanding with a big apartment complex. Most people here live in apartments. If you intend on getting your Residents Permit, my advice would be to hire a immigration attorney. It makes it sooo much easier. Good luck from Portugal

    Love your video! I've been researching Portugal for years and have bored my family with all my talk of wanting to live there. I will be retiring early next year, after putting it off due to the pandemic, and am finally ready to spend some quality time exploring Portugal. With the political unrest and gun violence in the US, my desire has only increased. My focus has been closer to Porto or Coimbra, but Cascais is an interesting option. Being from Chicago and a "city girl" I appreciate being able to walk everywhere and being close to the necessities of life but I'm not a beach person per se. My final decision will be based on many factors, including cost. However, compared to the US, it does appear that my finances will stretch further in Portugal. Living in the US has become exceedingly expensive and living in CA I see it first hand. I have so much to learn but will keep tuning into your videos 🙋‍♀Obrigada!

    I'm trying to recall. When I was in the US Navy our carrier stopped in Portugal. Cascais I think... I just remember getting off the ship, boarding the train, riding to the end of the line west, then walking west seeing the beach, eating on the corner overlooking the beach, while some kids brought a bull down to the beach to play with! Wild...

    • @AlgarveAddicts
      @AlgarveAddicts  ปีที่แล้ว

      A bull! That's classic. I would imagine you could have docked near the 25 Abril bridge and then taken the train out to Cascais. Great memories!

    • @bowmanbk1
      @bowmanbk1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure. Hoping my description might sound recognizable to you. I don't think the beach was in sight from the train. We only saw it after we hit the end of the line then walked a while. Certainly was an interesting experience!

    1.47 Cascais does not experience the full front of the west coast weather. It is in fact completely protected&sheltered, faces south and is rarely stormy or windy. Further along the coast, well away from Cascais town, you do of course experience the wild west coast weather.

    Hi I live in your area in the Algarve, but have always loved visiting Cascais and Estoril. It does have a long history of welcoming wealthy and often Royal visitors. We stayed at the Estoril Palace hotel, and saw many photo's of British royalty lining the walls.. It also had a large Dutch presence when the Philips company had a factory there.A very International place. It is also home to the Women's International club. for ex-pats ,. and a wonderful modern museum dedicated to the important, now world renowned artist Paula Rega..Thanks for another great video..

    In Cascais there is a Palace, the Cidadela Palace. It was a summer palace for the last kings and queens of Portugal and after the arrival of the Republic it became the place where portuguese presidents received foreign heads of state visiting Portugal. The Palace has an art déco glass balcony overlooking the beach which is stunning!

    Hi mate!
    After living in London for 20 years and travelling the world the time has come to go back @ the end of the month to my Hometown of Cascais more precisely in Sao Joao do Estoril.
    Pick up the old routine of surfing on a daily basis and walking the dog in the paredao.
    Little tip for you...from Monte Estoril going East you can get at some really cool surf spots Poca,Azaruja,S Pedro(2 peaks called Bafureira e Ponta) but the best and more consistent is in Carcavelos and the beach is as big as Guincho with less wind.
    The further you move from Cascais the better the surf spots are because of the Marina that was built maybe 15 years ago.
    By the way your 'pork & cheese' is on point lol
    All the best to ya

    Every video you do is very "simple" yet very detailed with context and informative. You truly adapted in portuguese society, which isnt easy for a "estrangeiro" to do, specially not coming from the Lusophone world. I love your enthusiasm, you know more of the history of places from Portugal then alot of portuguese themselfs, telling and knowing the history of the places and country and understanding the culture.
    The King Peter the cruel, i think the part of "Just" is because he tried to bring "Justice" he went like a "Justiceiro" figure, for avenging his lover, Inês de Castro (which is the portuguese real story of Romeu and Juliet), cruel... Well a reading of the guy may tell you why, but alot of the nickname may come from the treatement of the people who killed his lover and maybe Civil war propaganda.

    What are some nice places outside of Cascais but still close enough to enjoy the Cascais area that have more affordable housing (say 300K USD or less) and nice lifestyle for Canadians? What are your other favorite areas in portugal to live? I grew up in Brazil and Portugal seems like a dreamy place. Brazil is extremely sketchy and dangerous though, what is the safety situation like in Portugal?

    • @AlgarveAddicts
      @AlgarveAddicts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Portugal is one of the safest countries in the world. To be honest I am not that we'll aquatinted with places outside Cascais but look a little further inland towards Alcabideche and you may find something a little cheaper.

Question: we are looking to relocate to Portugal in early 2023 so we will not be able to make the golden visa deadline that I keep hearing is about to pass. Will there still be a program for us to buy property & reside in Portugal? Can you do a video on the changes that will be taking place in that program? Thanks!

    One of the weird things about Portugal that has always amazed me is the absence of safety fences. In one shot around 6:16 there are two vehicles pulled up to the edge of the ocean and they are amazingly close to the water. If the driver wasn't paying attention or if he miscalculated by a foot or two, the result would be tragic. I cannot understand why anyone would park a vehicle so class to calamity and I cannot believe that a safety fence does not exist in that spot.

      Portugal got around 1000 km sea border which is hard built fences and barriers all coast unless we called an expert Donald Trump !
