    Great video, Nick. Cascais is lovely, though, as you pointed out, expensive, but you also get a high standard for your money. Living south of the Tagus, we love going there a couple of times every month, especially in the spring and autumn.

    Wow, Nick!!!! You flew right over my old apartment in Parede. Aí, que saudades. ♥️ Lots of folks not too impressed with Cascais, but it is what it is, a town at the end of the railway line from Lisbon. Very touristy and overpriced, but I quite like it for a day. The best bit is getting off the train a few stops before Cascais and walking along the promenade. I don't think the Portuguese rave about it and it doesn't seem to be the most sought after place to stay for holidays, either. I'll always have fond memories of it, though.

    If you like living in an apartment, with all the attendant risks of noise and irritation, then knock yourself out!
    However, if you perhaps don’t want to listen to your neighbours arguing or making love, than you’ll need to buy a house!
    The snag is; a decent house in Cascais will be Euro 4M plus.
    The Algarve has a better climate. Even in central Algarve a nice family home is just 1.4M

    It's a ridiculously overvalued place in terms of quality. 90% of real estate is dated and in poor condition but costs two times more than the new one on the Spanish coastline. It is a place mostly to spend money, not to earn.

    • @ClausThanner
      @ClausThanner ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You mean the real estate is overvalued? So it´s not just simply economics - like DEMAND an SUPPLY. It´s artificially overvalued? Makes a lot of sense - no need to study I suppose, since it´s all made up. Maybe it´s because people want to live there? noooo, they don´t want to live in Cascais - and they just like to pay too much - makes a lot of sense.

  • @thierrysf
    @thierrysf ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I was there in October 2022 to survey the real estate market. I was very disappointed. Some areas close to downtown are rundown and look horrible. The price of real estate is ridiculously high if you want to avoid these ugly neighborhoods and the beach is very small and not pleasant. All in all, this is an incredibly overpriced city compared to mediterranean alternatives. The main plus of Cascais is that people are very nice but this is true almost anywhere in Portugal.
