That thing that came in the box you were asking about is a special wrench/driver for tightening the plastic nuts that go around the shaft of the buttons and fasten them to the underside of the panel.
2015 owner here…bought the adapter to hook up to the dreamcast. Makes all the capcom arcade games, power stone included into an amazing arcade machine!!!
You've probably don't need this advice since you can program the x arcade with a keyboard. But there's also another way without the need of a physically keyboard. There's a awesome program called (world of joysticks) way better then joytokey. The program is precise on however you would like to map buttons. You also have xoutput program to play steam games for any game that doesn't support keyboard. World of joysticks is awesome. I highly recommend, change profiles on the fly. Yes xoutput works perfectly but to me world of joysticks is special and it's way under rated for what it can do. Unlike xoutput you would need physical controllers for it to work. Xoutput only needs keyboard keys. Again you can do all this already without world of joysticks but it's a program worth trying out. This strong program will make any of those cheap arcade encoders very powerful. You can map 4 controllers at a time. 4 controllers is the program limit.
I remember these sticks in like 2004. At the time it was the only arcade stick on the market that used real arcade parts. Prior to street fighter 4 people it was common for people to custom build their own sticks. The only issue I had with the x-arcade were those two buttons placed at the bottom. It’s a really odd placement for the buttons
This thing is a cult classic..I used to own one year ago.. like years ago ..like 10years loved its, buy I eventually got an arcade cab and sold it. This brings back memory ..😍
I’m glad X-Arcade gaming is still in business I have a cabinet with a tank stick from them and they work amazing with my mame system thanks for sharing
This Brings back memories. I bought the single and the twin stick off of ebay long time ago. It required a lot of converter adapters to play on the newer systems.
hooked one of these to an original Xbox soft modded with coin op 8 and loads of other games, picked up the multi plugs to use on the dreamcast, ps2,ps1,ps3 gamecube, wii, xbox 360.. also if you pick up a usb to original xbox control port the rollerball will work on all roller ball arcade game from the get go, the stick is also very customisable
I've owned this exact X-arcade tank stick for many years and have it linked up hyperspin with rotational Monitor for Vertical shoot em ups.. It's amazing 👏🏼
My two solo sticks are going strong. Had them since like 2010. I’ve upgraded them to genuine IL euro sticks IL buttons and Cherry 🍒 switches and I’ve upgraded the cord coming out of the back to their newer design that hopefully won’t split. I have all the console adapters too! Man now I wanna bust mine out and play with them!
This is one of the coolest things I've seen in awhile! Really makes it feel like you are at the arcade playing Street Fighter, The Simpsons, Ninja Turtles, etc! One of the Coin Ops build I have lets you scroll though your arcade games and the display is the cabinet itself with a lit-up marquee, control panel with the joysticks, and video preview, plus it shows the next or previous arcade cabinets on the sides doing the same thing so it's like being at the arcade as a young kid trying to choose which quarters to waste your allowance on! Love that this thing has a trackball. I play some mean Marble Madness, Centipede, Millipede, Crystal Castles, Coor's Light Bowling, and Missile Command back in the day! Us old-school gamers know what's up! One thing I would do is paint or place stickers on some of the buttons so they are not all black. This way you can do a strong or medium attack by just looking.
I Love the X-Arcade Tank Stick!! I got mine in 2014 and enjoyed using it with my Mac. I then gutted it out in 2020 and kept the shell and swapped out the parts for Santa Joysticks and buttons and put a raspberry pi 4b+ with an 8gig of RAM, and now its a portable Retro Arcade beast!!!
I bought one of these and all the console adapters WAAAAY back in the day and have always loved it. A year or two ago I bought the upgrade PCB to convert it to X-Input and also a heavy-duty Piano Stand to put it on so I could use it as a "mobile pedestal" for my big screen wall mounted TV. I pull it out to the middle of the floor when being used as slide it off the the side out of the way when I don't want it in view. I wish someone on Etsy made a nice black cover for it so I could keep it dust free when not in use.
I found one of these in a TJ Maxx something like 2005. It wasn't even USB. I upgraded that later. Haven't used it in ages, but I had it hooked up to my old desktop with a really nice MAME set up at the time with screenshots of the title screens for each of the probably 200+ games and you could insert coins and start with the corresponding buttons on the controller. It's very American, the buttons are quality if a little spongy. Its integration with MAME is fantastic. It's a real arcade experience. If you see one, nab it.
nice tankstick! a dear friend long ago gave me the solo model and after replacing the stick and buttons it is a real joy to play on. lots of people seem to hate on this stick but the feel of the wood as you rest your wrists on it is really unmatched
The only arcade sticks that can match up to X arcade would probably be that duo madcatz Tokido stick they released when Tekken X StreetFighter came out.
Dropped this into a gutted atari system one arcade shell with a hacked xbox. It's been more than ten years and still a solid set up. I was surprised to see such a recent review pop up on my feed. For those on the fence, especially in todays market of cheap arcade 1up cabinets, this deck paired with a coin ops buid is a solid investment for years of arcade gaming.
I bought a dual tank stick second hand a few years back for $45 but its the model without a trackball. I added new buttons, new sticks and the zero lag board.... Works with heaps of different consoles, pc, modded ps classic and the Mister. I also have the single stick tank which I'll get around to upgrading that one as well one day.
I still have one of these. 14 years old. Dropped onto concrete during a move, and it still works. Mine was the old style where the buttons & joysticks acted like keyboard presses through a ps2 connection. I bought an upgrade daughterboard later that let me use X-input. I also had one of the full-size arcade cabinet kits designed for it. From Rec Room Masters I think, unfortunately I was forced to move with only what I could fit in a Ford Fiesta, so the cab had to go. But the Tankstick I still have and use.
A spinner and a dedicated 4 way joystick would be an insta buy for me. I have an older single player version currently collecting dust in the attic. Thanks for posting.
Got my Tank Stick like 15-16 years ago...we had it hooked up to an older PC running MAME and several emulators. Was set up on a bar in my gameroom and everyone would play the hell out of it! 2 years later that old PC exploded lol...I still have the Tank Stick and want to build another emulation PC...Raspberry Pies are fun, but for the price now?...I can put together a far more powerful PC with mostly spare parts lying around.
I switched to PC for the same reason. I started out on a raspberry pi 3B + and loved it. However when I decided I wanted to upgrade the price of the pi 4 made me decide to look at other solutions. Not to mention it's not that much more powerful anyway.
Was just looking at my old one with the ps/2 port lol. And boom , your vid! Got mines in 2007. At the time they tried to emulate the keyboard. They had free upgrades for usb boards. But pressing 2 buttons at the same time gives troublem haven't updated the PCB since 2008. Upgraded one side to happs but I got a bad shipment so never worked well. I use a hori mini PS3/PS4/PC fighter stick now. More responsive. I'm sure the PCB I have is outdated
im working on it, actually started working on a pi build video before this video so ill have something coming soon explaining how to go from start to finish.
Akai Katana has just been released on pc, switch and ps4. I have it on xbox360, it's a great Cave shooter similar to Progear. The X Arcade is a beast, always wanted one but quite expensive in the UK.
The item you pulled out but didn't know what it is, that's used for replacing the buttons. You don't need it, but it makes it easier to unscrew them. I used to maintain a Tankstick for local events, they're fairly easy to maintain, however if you replace the joystick the carriage bolts are a bit wider than standard and you'll need to replace them as well.
I have just the trackball version which I believe has been discontinued but I have an old xarcade in which I had to upgrade the board so I could use a usb output but I had to program the retropie in order for it to work correctly
bought a single x-arcade 20? years ago or smt. i modded it recently with a 10€ dualshock4 pcb from ali express, even has battery and works wirelessly exactly like the dualshock4. works on ps4/ps5 (ps4 games), pc, etc. i had to get a second single x-arcade to do the same. (it was a pain to get) thing is, the case its the only original part after the mods, everything was modded, stick, buttons, everything lol totally worth it.
Love mine and while I don't use it often it's nice to know I have it. I keep thinking of having a custom cabinet done it can slide into and out of so that I can have the best of both worlds, and have a better way to store it.
I remember looking at these years ago. Then I found game room solutions and they're diy cabinet. That's how I found your channel too when you did more pi tutorials. Hi still have my gsr 6 button twin stick with custom aliens vs predator graphic. So cool
Bought tankstick years ago before the board switch. Worked with support for quite some time trying to get Killer Instinct to work with both controls. Ended up getting beta xinput board to try and that board died. Bought replacement board and as far as I know, still works. Might try mine again this weekend to see if it still works. Mine didn't come with the plastic thing in the bag. Tool to remove buttons is the only thing I can think it could be.
I was wondering if they still exist. Looked at them back in the early 00's. A few years ago when I was going to get one, but they had some type of natural disaster that messed em up. Nice to see they're still kicking. Maybe I finally get to grab one.
I map the first lower button with the bottom three as the four NEO GEO buttons in a proper layout. As for the second low button, I map it to pause MAME. People hit pause by accident at first, but appreciate it once they realize it's there.
I used to have it, and was googling it recently as I was thinking about building a full size mame arcade. There are people on Etsy selling the arcade box cabinet to fit it
Idk if a mini pc from minisforum will fit but i want to see if so you can emulate everything and still play current AAA titles all wrapped up within this arcade stick control panel. Which would be pretty sweet even if i do have to shuck the shell on the pc and throw an extra fan inside for it.
I had this for a year and wish it had a rotating dial for those old atari games. Other than that I used the bottom buttons as start select. The side buttons as pinball clickers, second side buttons as right and left click since ball works as a mouse too.
I added a buttonhole spinner to mine and it was super easy. You just need a 1-1/8" forstner bit to drill an extra hole. I placed mine above the player one buttons about 3-1/2" (on center) to the left of the white player one start button. This placement gives you a nice spot to rest the heel of your hand just to the left of the trackball.
I'm still rocking the Tankstick I bought I think around 2011 or 2012. I don't know the purpose of the red button, but the place it's at corresponds with the little red light that indicates that it's hooked up to the computer. I have mine hooked up to a recent-build computer I built earlier in the year, and I'm using Launchbox as well as several pinball programs. Somewhere down the line I want to replace the board inside the unit for Xinput functionality, in case I want to ditch the computer for a RasPi setup, and also I want to eventually install a spinner for games like Tempest and Super Breakout.

Thats at a great price too. Is it easy to take the bottom off? Would be great of they had a little extra room inside it so a mini PC or Pi would fit inside it. Then only a HDMI would need to be plugged into what ever monitor or TV is being used. Well besides power to the pc or Pi
Have one that I gutted when my hotrod died and i reput together recently with those cheap encoders. Hanaho hot rod was better. Actually mine isn't the tank stick it's the one without the trackball.
After watching this video i dug out my 20 year old Xarcade tank stick (in box with all the old guitar hero dongle adapters that enabled it to be used all the way up to Ps4). Is there a plug and play Pi out there i can enjoy my stick again with? I have two MC TE2 ki sticks for Xb that im playing SF6 on currently on xbsx. 🕹🇨🇦
I have the old one. I swapped all the buttons for LED buttons and run them with LED blinky. Also swapped the sticks with sanwar bats. I use buttom buttons for PPP and KKK. What does the red button do? Also where did you find the widescreen artwork?
I know you're really into controllers. You might want to check out the old PDP Versus Fighting Pad for PS3 or XB 360. There's still NOS stock out there and they're cheap. It's a microswitch pad similar to a Neo Geo CD pad. They work on Retropie, Windows, etc. The only problem is the rubberized back even on new ones are gross but with some some hand sanitizer or alcohol they clean up really nice.
I used to have one years back for the 360, it had marvel characters on it.. but yeah I really liked that thing. Dont have it anymore but may try to find one again.
I've had one of these hooked up to my original Xbox with CoinOPS for years. Also have their conversion kit in the original Hanaho HotRod joystick from the early 2000's as well. Works great.
I got my X-Arcade just in 2023, but i try config it using retroarch ro Run Arcade games. I can play as a Player 1, but the Player 2 is combinate with Player 1, so strange because i have set up very good in the input settings and it is ok with other emulators as PS1, Dreamcast, N64. What could be the issue?
Wow! I remember one of these big arcade sticks that uses Ps2 port for keyboard and mouse. Sooo expensieve here in Spain years ago, and not good quality at least

What emulator front end are you using?
I've owned mine for 6 years now and it still works like a champ. I recommend it for any MAME cabinet.
I've owned mine for 18 years and it still works great.
Absolutely agree 💯
Are buttons are good for competitive play or do they need to be replaced like Arcade 1up?
@@camg5009 I'm not even close to competitive play, so I've never had an issue.
@Cam G the buttons are micro switched not the cheap garbage Arcade1up use.
I have this x arcade stick in my home brew cabinet. I've had it since 2012. It still works perfectly fine and it gets regular use ever since. Crazy.
I built a cocktail cabinet from X-Arcade 4 or 5years ago, still the best investment I have for retro arcade gaming.
I remember these things being like the only arcade style joystick you could get. It’s what got me started and I always loved it.
That thing that came in the box you were asking about is a special wrench/driver for tightening the plastic nuts that go around the shaft of the buttons and fasten them to the underside of the panel.

I love these types of videos. Sometimes the fun is putting the emulators together.
I had one of these for like 20 years and it's still going strong. Older inputs but good quality and the original beast!

Very nice! Thanks for the shout-out, happy holidays and new year to you and the fam

Akai Katana has just been released on pc, switch and ps4. I have it on xbox360, it's a great Cave shooter similar to Progear. The X Arcade is a beast, always wanted one but quite expensive in the UK.

I got a Tank-stickwith trackball a few years ago and it’s still in Box. The reason is because my Dual-Stick tank stick is still going after 13 years
I have one of these Its decent quality but the trackball is cool for the price. Romcollector has a drive made for it with the games
Awesome Rammstein tapestry!
bought a single x-arcade 20? years ago or smt.
i modded it recently with a 10€ dualshock4 pcb from ali express, even has battery and works wirelessly exactly like the dualshock4.
works on ps4/ps5 (ps4 games), pc, etc.
i had to get a second single x-arcade to do the same. (it was a pain to get)

I owned 2 so I could do 4 player games. I loved them! I only sold them when I upgraded to a real cabinet.
I owned a X-Arcade stick before. It is the Best🥰

I own the X-Gaming Machine witch is the 400 plus pound arcade cab.
I bet my RecRoom Masters Xtension 32" weighs that much or close to that. It's an Absolute Monster!
@@captain3186 nice the cab I got is pretty much the same thing.
Recently ordered an upgrade kit for mine that will make it easier to connect for $25 . 👍
the two bottom buttons can be used as L/R with Saturn emulation
I have and love the Atari fight stick with trackball
I have the tank stick myself but the Atari fight stick is definitely another great solution.
That is impressive.
I’ve had mine for 10 years. Gathering dust.
I need to play it again.
Should I get the upgraded hardware?
I used to have a Tank Stick, really regret selling it now :( I still have an X-Arcade solo though. I plan to add a spinner in the near future 👍
Thats at a great price too. Is it easy to take the bottom off? Would be great of they had a little extra room inside it so a mini PC or Pi would fit inside it. Then only a HDMI would need to be plugged into what ever monitor or TV is being used. Well besides power to the pc or Pi
would love to see a video on the new tankstick max. i preordered mine, supposed to be delivered Monday
Cant get these in the UK only from America same with the Atari Fight Stick. I really want a fight stick with a trackball and spinners if possible
Have one that I gutted when my hotrod died and i reput together recently with those cheap encoders. Hanaho hot rod was better. Actually mine isn't the tank stick it's the one without the trackball.
There is input lag on centipede even after adjusting analog controls. Any suggestions? Mame 0.228. Windows 10 - Thanks
I have one and it’s glorious
I have the old and new tank sticks both are great & well built the only bad thing is NO SPINNER ,
This build is beautiful
How do you get the coinops legends 3 max? I can't find any tutorials on how to build it
After watching this video i dug out my 20 year old Xarcade tank stick (in box with all the old guitar hero dongle adapters that enabled it to be used all the way up to Ps4).
Also where did you find the widescreen artwork?
how does it compare to using the ALP with CoinOps?
I know you're really into controllers. You might want to check out the old PDP Versus Fighting Pad for PS3 or XB 360. There's still NOS stock out there and they're cheap. It's a microswitch pad similar to a Neo Geo CD pad. They work on Retropie, Windows, etc. The only problem is the rubberized back even on new ones are gross but with some some hand sanitizer or alcohol they clean up really nice.
I used to have one years back for the 360, it had marvel characters on it.. but yeah I really liked that thing. Dont have it anymore but may try to find one again.
I still have the one without Trackball. I also have all the adapters, pc, Xbox, ps2, wii, 360, ps3
how hard would it be to make something like this with wood with basic power tools and wood glue
Would love to get this were I live, but shipping and import taxes would kill me, lol. Looks like its built like a tank!
How do you set up player 2 on retropie/arcade box?
Can I play SegaSonicthehedgehog with the track ball? Might get this one day since it can be used for so many things.
I've had one of these hooked up to my original Xbox with CoinOPS for years. Also have their conversion kit in the original Hanaho HotRod joystick from the early 2000's as well. Works great.
So this X Arcade stick works in the Original Xbox console?? very interesting.
@@ozzie.l.6035 Yes, as long as you have the correct adaptor. I believe they have one that works up till the PS4.
@@allsportnj Oh that's nice,it's good to know that,thank you!!
The 'that's what she said ' joke never gets old.
Can you recommend a arcade Pandora box, plug and play for me please help
Is there any lag on the fighting games? Like on xmen vs street fighter?
Would be cool to see a roller ball game in action
I got my X-Arcade just in 2023, but i try config it using retroarch ro Run Arcade games. I can play as a Player 1, but the Player 2 is combinate with Player 1, so strange because i have set up very good in the input settings and it is ok with other emulators as PS1, Dreamcast, N64. What could be the issue?
Will this work with a Brooks adaptor ps/xbox for both players 1 and 2 using a dual stick?
Would it play golden tee ?
Where can I buy a whole game controller like this but for disc of tron
Wow! I remember one of these big arcade sticks that uses Ps2 port for keyboard and mouse. Sooo expensieve here in Spain years ago, and not good quality at least
What is the front side height? back side is 5 inc?
Very cool.
Can that raspberry pi 8 gig that you have one killer instinct and do you know of a built that has killer instinct arcade in it
Now I'm wondering if you could setup 2 of those with one raspberry pi board that would be awesome for 4 player games!
