  • Millwall fans recently booed some of their own players who decided to take the knee before their game in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and anti-racist causes. On the BBC's PoliticsLive, the Brexit Party's Richard Tice decided to use the usual 'red scare' trope to delegitimise BLM. Ash Sarkar was there to call him out.

    It is totally bizarre that you have politicians condemning BLM as a political movement. It is. So what? It has to be as racism is a political issue - an issue of struggle. But whats particularly absurd is it coming from an MP. A politician condemning politics is like an infant condemning the teat.

    • @cactustactics

      They do condemn politics all the time though - it's shorthand for "this isn't genuine concern, it's people playing games". The idea that ordinary people care enough to come together and demand better is dangerous to them, so they have to pretend it's all being orchestrated in the shadows. Also helps excuse the fact that state enforcers are brutalising people, as we all know it's ok if they're The Baddies

    But BLM does support things that are beyond just anti racism - that's just a fact. They shouldn't be rolling up what should be an obvious sentiment with other socio-political ideals that are against mainstream thinking. The BLM manifesto is clear as day on what it stands for and if people don't want to endorse aspects of this then they shouldn't be excluded from the anti-racism battle..
    Whatever individual motivations are for not supporting taking the knee you'd have to ask, but it's not necessarily white supremacy or racism it's probably just people not endorsing a political movement they disagree with.
    Telling someone they're this or that for not supporting a gesture that underpins a movement that has segued itself into more controversial ideologies is just wrong, and it's pushing people away.

    • @gregw4443
      @gregw4443 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Ben Fizz agree with what you're saying. I'd also argue that Ash Sarkar has gone off on a tangent to avoid the truth that the BLM support things that most wouldn't align with. The MLK point is valid but IMO deliberately missing out key facts about why people would oppose other facets of BLM to suit a narrative, the very things that I think pushed people away from labour.

    White nationalism doesn’t equal white supremacy. It’s white equality. How many other races are denied nationalism? Whole races? Come on...Last time I checked the vast majority of countries and nations are nationalist, but most aren’t supremacist in the sense Ash means.
    Also, Ash literally admits and boasts that yes, demographic change is happening and being engineered. “We’re winning”.
    Really anyone with a brain can see this for what it is. Dog eat dog, most every non-white group is acting for themselves, against whites where relevant. How does anyone fail to see this? Why isn’t there a single non-white MP who will ever bother to stick up for whitey? Why is every non-white in politics involved in non-white racial politics? It’s almost like we’re in an environment hostile to whites, and in-group preference exists. Mind blowing stuff I know, I’ll have to go easy on the “noticing” thing.

    The thing about public opinion polls that most people don't understand is that it's not that "the polls are biased" but that the polls _reveal_ the existing biases. For instance, when people wisely note that landlines get you older & more conservative people, they act as though nobody who actually does the polling ever thought of this fact, when actually the only reason these wise people know about it is because those polling companies are the ones who measure biases in order to account for them.
    The polls themselves ask a whole battery of questions to a very carefully sampled section of the population regarding various individuals, organizations, media outlets, issues and the specific phrasings of and arguments about those issues, and whatever else the subject of that particular poll is, cross-referenced with multiple demographic, geographic and such-like categories. The result is a very long and technically detailed report that lets the client know _which_ messages work best with _which_ segments of the population and which ones to avoid, and all sorts of other useful stuff.
    The thing to remember when you read about "the polls" in the media, is that *you are not the client - you are the target.* When people (including very sharp alternative media folks) talk about "the polls" what they're talking about is that tiny sliver of the results of the polls that whoever is presenting that sliver _wants_ you to know about, based precisely on what the report _they_ read tells them is most beneficial to the narrative they want to present.

    Why is George Eustace an environment minister being interviewed on this issue? Can someone please enlighten me on the link between anti-racism and the environment? George Eustace didn't even state climate change and air pollution are racist. Should he at least not be demanding such behaviour lead to the abandonment of the game? Or banning such fans from matches?

Do you think football players do what they want or what they are told from the sponsorships they have? Do you think players earning £40,000 per week really understand the problems of todays world?
