Gave me chills, this one. And not just because I'm in it! This hits the core of our drive to do it all. . Btw, im "big dickus goes to college" at the end. That shit made me laugh so hard to see that again
I feel like I always cry when I watch speedrunning videos and this video totally encompasses why. I don't even speedrun anything or play games all that much, but I love your videos. Thanks for making this and I am excited to see you keep making cool shit when you can.
This video is a masterpiece, both an excellent showcase of personal narrative and storytelling, and a beautifully crafted piece of visual art. Congrats Hum, you have long surpassed the "limitations" of what the medium can be. Thank you for creating this.
Holy shit man I was legit jumping up and down watching this in my living room. I got so pumped at those popoffs Amazing story telling, amazing song, amazing game showcasings, SICK. We're 10 years into this community and it's just the fucking beginning. We're gonna keep growing and we're gonna push the records to new heights going forward. Amazing work man
A fantastic video. From a selfish perspective, seeing my 48:29 pop off again on CTR made me oddly emotional. Cheers for encapsulating not just the feeling of getting a WR but the journey, as well as so many different ways to view it. Cheers, keep doing what you do, your youtube channel is full of gems and this one might be the brightest yet. Much love.
I don't know how I only just now saw this video. My new favourite speedrunning video to date and its not even close. Does such a good job capturing all the emotions and hard work that go into a world record, not just from the runner but the community, and in such a short space of time. Awesome editing, awesome video.
Thanks FeaR! It’s a really niche video but it was something I’ve been thinking about for almost 2 years. I was prepared for it to flop in the algorithm but my hope is that it continues to have the effect it did for you where people stumble upon it randomly and really enjoy it. It means a lot to read your message.
When I first saw a WR live it was on Dayo's stream, I loved watching WR videos and at that time I had just started watching a speedrun stream, I enjoyed typing "I was here" and that's all. But then I started watching Dayo and Hypnoshark regularly, as part of their community, I saw them grind for months, and the next time I saw both get a WR it felt totally different, I felt part of a community, I enjoyed typing ggs for them and acknowledging their effort, instead of the "I was here" moment. I really think I grew as a person watching both of them achieve these feats, I love speedrunning communities, Dayo and Hypno are my heroes :3 ❤️
This was an amazing montage to watch, and hearing the perspectives of a lot of runners I've watched or whose streams I've hung out in was amazing insight into how they view their times. To me, a WR is an invitation. Not every world record has the optimization that you'd see in highly trafficked categories. It's a run that shows off the best attempt anyone has done at the category and says to the viewer "if you think you can do better, here's what you need to surpass". It'll be intimidating, it'll be daunting like more than one runner said in the video, but it's something that can be accomplished with enough time, effort, and determination.
Beautiful video man, you've really outdone yourself. The sheer amount of different people in this video alone who manage to work towards a goal and achieve it is breathtaking, and to think that even this is just a small subset of the PS speedrunning community which in turn is just a small part of speedrunning as a whole really provides a new perspective on this for me. So many people working towards these similar goals, thousands upon thousands of stories and memories made by people trying to push that number on the timer down. It really is something special.
This is so amazing, really awesome production. It gave me so much feelings, that happiness of the runners for getting that time is something... I can't describe really well, but it makes me happy. So many answers, so different perspective but they are all valid.
Thank you. This video shows why I love speedrunning and the community around it. I simply don't have the words to describe everything I'm feeling right now. Thank you.
God, the speedrunning community _needs_ more videos that are about speedrunning _in general_ but not about any specific game. Every time I see one I think about the hobby in a new way, and it's glorious.. I get way more hyped about each one than I do about "World Record History Number 724". Not to talk shit about the more "traditional" style of SpeedTube™ video, but that area of it has been done a whole lot more than things like this. The philosophy of it. The culture of it. The _art_ of it, if you will. If I were a more dedicated human I would have the initiative to try and make some myself, but I might just have to depend on living vicariously on the higher motivation and discipline of others. What I'm trying to say is: I liked this. Keep it up. _Please._
Hum, once again and I say this with a genuine feeling as if we were face to face, you have made another masterpiece. Look forward to your future work. Thanks for your contributions to the community.
This video is a masterful showing of what drives us to do what we love. This video is short and sweet but you can just feel the adrenaline and emotion pumping through you as each runner is telling their own perspectives and what a world record means to them. This video is so special Hum this is absolutely one of my fav speedrunning videos ever
Really enjoyed this! Wouldn’t mind seeing similar videos in the future even longer format interviews, backgrounds, stories of different people in the community.
This video is incredible! The editing, the clips, the moments. All of it, I love it. And Jersey Devil even made an appearance, the icing on the top for me. Thank you for making this
Hearing so many perspectives coupled with the amazing editing present in this video is a surreal feeling. Great work Hummeldon, I can't wait to see what else you have in store
For a long time I've had trouble explaining what's so amazing about speedrunning when friends or family have questioned the repetitive grind of the same game over and over again. I finally have a nice quick way to explain it without even opening my mouth. Fantastic video, and probably the best look into our amazing hobby I've ever seen.
Really solid and interwoven editing to complement the commentary and music. You sank a lot of time into this didn't you Squidward? (Also shoutouts to my boys Tomba and Jersey Devil)
It is honestly strange how you don't have like +100k subs with your editing skills and general entertainment and professionalism. I gotta advertise you a frickton
so many legends in a single video. im glad to be by everyone side as they achieve these goals. hey I didn't get the WR myself, I dont even run these games, but I witnessed history
I remember when Young Mountain by This Will Destroy You came out in 2006 (I actually feel a little sick typing that) and I was really looking forward to their debut album since YM was more of an EP that blew up on Myspace (again, I feel sick typing this). When the album came out in 2008 I was actually quite disappointed in it. I was really into math rock and post metal at the time (Pelican, Jesu and Don Cab) so to hear TWDY had immediately abandoned their clean/delay-laden post rock sound for a more ambient/drone/shoegaze sound. I just was not digging it at the time. Obviously 2008 was a long time ago and whilst I still don't love the album, I appreciate it a lot more than I did. I still think Tunnel Blanket is a better album; which I know is ironic since that leaned even heavier into the drone end of the spectrum. Sorry to leave a comment not about speedrunning but just seeing that album cover was very nostalgic to me. It's weird to feel nostalgic about being disappointed but I guess that's just how memory is. There really was something wild and wonderful about finding music on myspace and I envy the younger folk who get brilliant websites like Bandcamp to find the exact kind of music they love. Although I suspect thats just what I wish was happening. Whats probably actually happening is that algorithms are doing what they always do and funnelling most people into pop music just like radio's did. Most people probably use spotify and soundcloud to choose what they listen to; ending up listening to the same 8 artists over and over again. Also Star Fox Adventures turned 20. Kill me.
My WR’s in Oogies revenge gave me the ability to work with GDQ, PACE and 1up on Cancer. It’s the friends I’ve made. The strides I’ve made as a person. I’m so happy what Speedrunning has done for me
Not a speedrunner but I love watching speedruns, this made me cry. Watching your favorite speedrunner get a WR makes you happy too
Gave me chills, this one. And not just because I'm in it! This hits the core of our drive to do it all.

I love this. Thank you for sharing.
@@Hummeldon thank you for making the video, it made me tear up a little :')
Blessed video Hum. I LOVE the editing style here, and the fact that you let the speedrunners take over the mic.
great video - always good to see love shown to speedrunners who are truly talented and committed. Looking forward to more!
