as the first person who ever completed a speedrun of PMW, it makes me so happy to see a video like this celebrating just how great of a speedrun it is. it really is criminally overlooked, i can only hope that this video helps it get a bit more exposure and find some new runners! thank you for this :)
About the TAS footage, the movement shown isn't zigzag but another technique (I call it zipzag though it's not exactly the same thing than in the Crash Bandicoot games) which requires that you press the right and left button at the same time once every two frames. It's obviously not something you can do with an original playstation controller (at least without dismantling it) and it's around 20% faster than optimal zigzag.
Hey lapogne! I’m a huge fan of your TAS work. Thanks for the clarification. I thought I heard a bit about it being a unique form of movement but didn’t reach out to confirm. Still it does a good job of showing how crazy the movement can get in this game at TAS levels!
i really appreciate the attention given to the visuals here, which is often neglected in this kind of content. your edits, humor, and chosen footage really elevate this video to me, and it's a banger.
Love how every speedrun creator is in the comments, rightfully pointing out how underrated your videos are. I hope you keep uploading, I'm becoming a big fan!
Oh god, you just opened me menories i tought were lost! I'm sad that it has been 1 year from your last video... right now i'm starting to fall in love with the speedrunning stuff and your channel is fantastic for that
Movement techniques like Zigzagging are just so mind-blowing to me. I played all these games as a kid, never in a million years could I have imagined that the things I'm seeing were even possible!
As soon as I watched playthroughs of Pac-World, esp seeing some of the real highs and lows of its gameplay, I thought, "Man, this def has some places where you could go FAST, I bet..."
Wow, I just got recommended this and honestly, I don't think I've played this game since about 2003 as a little kid. Very interesting to watch, great work!
Pac-Man World was my fav as a kid, just hearing the music in the intro made my chest tight with nostalgia! Such a good video, def gonna watch again and again
For the 3D Dragon Quest games, runners move diagonally because (from what I understand), your distance away from the neutral state of the analog stick determines speed, so having a vector that is in two directions is larger than in one direction, and therefore, speed is a higher value.
Wow, what a wonderful video! I’ve been a huge fan of the PMW games, especially 1, and you did a great job at condensing all the info down to not only be easily digestible but also make a great video! Definitely earned a sub from me!
Hey like the music in this game? Don’t like the compression? Support #PacManWorldHDOST so Bandai Namco releases the music in all its uncompressed glory!
I had heard from several friends that you had done a video on a game that was very close to my heart, and damn you killed it. PMW really is a criminally underrated speedrun, and as someone who had started running it back in 2014-ish, it is amazing how far the game went in 6 years. From times of 2 and a half hours to under half an hour, the game is a masterpiece in speedrunning, and Joester is a legend! Very good job on the video Hum! (P.S. don't feel bad about falling asleep on stream, I was on the couch commentating and I nearly fell asleep!)
Amazing video! I think this was the first ever game I ever played, and I know how to do a lot of these skips. Maybe if I start speed running and get any sort of record, I'll thank you. ;)
even if i'm late, i'm so thankful to have this in my feed, and oh boy, both the video and the run are fantastic, now i want to play Pac-Man World again
I didn't know that pac man world had speedruns, thank you for making this video :D also, your edition on this video is cool as hell! keep it up, you're making excellent quality videos
Can't believe I've never seen this before, great video. The routing was a lot of fun back then, but the Bell skip, Gate skip and zigzag optimization made me retire haha. This game deserves more love indeed, also the shoutout at 1:18 never gets old >
WOW! Where to start... I just discovered your channel and dude, this is gold. Keep it up, your editing skills is fantastic! I'm going to look into Pac-Man World a lot more thanks to you. This looks like an insanely fun run! Movement looks so tough though, I felt like I wanted to give it a try until it reached the "zig-zag" point!! Is it tiring for your hands?
To put it bluntly, Yes! Zigzagging is something that takes a while to really master. I personally can only do it for short bursts before my movement starts to get all sloppy. The fact that runners can maintain a zigzag while also navigating through a level properly is amazing to me. Thanks for checking out the video :)
@@Hummeldon I'm more familiar with heavy-mashing tricks and after a while, it can be very tiring especially when you're nervous at the end of a PB-pace run. I will check it out. I was always curious of Pac-Man World 1 and 2 as a casual game. Maybe I will love the speedruns too !
@@Hummeldon While I'm not a top runner myself, and while the community, while small is still fairly active, and we're getting new people with pbs, frequently, as of recent. I'm more than certain if you ask heehee, lolaway, or me, we'd love to tell you more about the intense run. Thanks for the consideration though!
Fantastic vid my man, happy I was able to help!

The video editing on this channel is cracked. Thanks for the really entertaining video!

This video is outrageously good. It is an absolute crime that it hasn't blown up and entered every Speedrunning fan's recommended. Hopefully soon 👍
Joe's sub 30 inspired me to push myself in Pac-Man World 2... which is like World 1 but without the crazy zig-zagging lmao
Oh god I can just feel the arthritis 7:52
PLEASE Subscribe to this man, god tier editing, topic choice and narration man. Straight up beautiful
Just got here from your 100,000 video
Love your content
Pac-Man World is such an underrated game. Wish more 3D platformers would go the Crash route with the 8D movement and linear levels.

REALY digging this series/format amigo - great work!
Most underrated speedrun TH-camr on the platform
So happy to see a video on this game. Its probably one of my favourite platformers and the speed runs are so much fun to watch

Super well presented. I love your graphics.
I just found this channel, and the voiceover in this video is so clean and crisp. I can tell that you're really passionate about this game.

Wow this game is insane. those hours spent on the first minute was definitely worth it. amazing editing and music, truly inspiring
Great video. I love that you showed a tas of the zig zag. It really helped show how fast it could go. Will be checking out your other stuff

Honestly, the whole Pac-man World series are much better than they have any right being. Also thanks for the great vid.
You're welcome
Oh dang Hum, everything in your videos seems up to a professional standard. Great editing and scripting. Good shit!
Pacman has one of the oddest and trickiest movesets in smash bros.
Really great content. Hope you continue. Love the movement analysis!!
Fantastic video mate! Also love the 6 channels you put as your inspiration
Your channel is 1,000x better than the subs you have or views you get. Please please please keep making videos! These are so awesome to watch!

Keep it coming Hum. This editing is insanely top notch and hopefully success to your channel is coming soon :^)
This is an underrated channel, great job

Great video. Keep this up you’ll do big numbas
I'm a big fan of the 2nd game but I never really played the first one. It looks pretty fun!
I haven't played PMW2 before but I'd really like to check out the runs and maybe play the game myself too! PMW has aged a bit but it's still a classic
awesome video dude, can't wait to see more "the art of" vids! :)
Great work Hum!
1:38 why did they forget to not animate him when he dies
I've only gotten about 2 minutes in but this game seems more broken that a dish I threw on the floor, swept up, and threw in the trash compactor.
this video is pacced with puns

Bravo!
Please make a video on Glover AML speedruns, it has such great movement and a high skill ceiling with its tricks.
Glover is absolutely sick but I'm not really educated on it yet. Perhaps if I get to know it more in the future I'll consider!
