- Martin and Susan were called out to check on a Great Horned Owl in someone's backyard. Upon arrival, Martin caught the injured owl and did a quick exam. The owl had a broken wing, but fortunately, one that could heal with a little time. After some time at our rescue center, this Owl was released back to the wild.

Martin Tyner
Since age twelve, with a bird on his arm, Martin has captivated audiences sharing his knowledge and experience of his wildlife friends.
At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.
“One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.”
Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator.
He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years.
“Grandpa believed in a very simple philosophy; that a person should get up every morning and do good. Doing good means that you do well for others and doing well means that you do good for yourself. There is nothing wrong with doing well, but Grandpa always believed in doing good.”
Martin's book, Healer of Angels, reflects back on his life: from a young boy terrified of birds to becoming the first man in North America licensed to train a wild golden eagle in the ancient art of falconry.
Through a heartwarming collection of true stories he describes his challenging transformation from a shy dyslexic teenager, to the founder and CEO of the Southwest Wildlife Foundation.

I admire your patience with people, it must be hard wanting to take care of the owl but then people are so excited about God’s creation and wanna pull on your knowledge that you have, asking questions, taking pictures, I just pray God will give you peace and joy and understanding with people even more so and I pray that your dream that you have in your heart would be fully manifested with proper funding all that you need would come in and be surrounded with good people with good intentions and to be devoid of the politics as much as possible. That you would have full say on how it’s to be run and funded and who is allowed to work there I pray this all in Jesus name amen.

I’m pretty sure they were already fans. The woman said she initially tried to contact Martin at his grooming shop, and asked if he still had Scout.
The way I would describe their eye color is “caution sign yellow”

The GHOSin tucson, az are huge!! They sit on the flat roof of a house at dusk and look like bobcats if you don't look carefully

I think the Owls are muchore intellgent as we human know.
They can see if a human is a danger to them or not .
They lok at you from above watch what you do and the remind you even if you have other clothes on and a hat.
Here where i lived i had experiance with a owl family (Bubo Bubo= i dont know the english name for them)
The male was with me and flew afte me when i left his sitting place i know the female one its a VERY BIG OWL LADY.
They are here since 2007.
And sudenly i came there heard a sound and UPSS there kids..
I saw them several time.
And the mother sat only 3m above me and watch the kids idf she looked at me only with slices of her eyes.
And then 2 weeks later..i stand there..

SUDDELNY i sa a moving above the screen of the cam..
I looked up i was so fascinated from the sight..
ALLE the family
The parents and the 2 Kids were flying a round above me (like in a film!)and made a call at me and flew awy.
Im so sad i could make a video of it i was so looking at them..

The male came 2 years ago there looking for me again.

@@GowildlifeOrg I agree! Last year my husband and I searched for over 2 months for a Great Horned Owl we would hear at a local MI State Park we go to weekly. When we found the male we located the female on their nest. It was amazing! Thank you for all you do!
As always, I'm blown away by how comfortable Martin is handling these potentially dangerous birds and how the birds seem to know that Martin is there to help them. What a treat to see a Great Horned Owl up close like that.

when me and my brother where younger we where walking down our long dirt road driveway on the way home. and it had been snowing for a few hours. we saw and i SWEAR...a PURE WHITE OWL in a pine tree...she was just STARING AT US with those humungus yellow eyes..i will never forget it for as LONG as i live... and when it took off we just watched as she glided away across our driveway and across a big horse field and into the forest... man it was beautiful.. we talked about that thing forever.. i miss my brother so much

I really felt emotional when I saw that video where Martin said that. You could hear his deep compassion for the RTH and all the raptors he saves. What a beautiful guy, if there were just one Martin in every million men the world would be such a better place!

If you guys never seen an Owl, not only they’re huge Raptors but the hooting is so soothing and the Eyes are so mesmerizing besides how big their eyes their colors is so awe. I’ve worked with Owls in a Raptor sanctuary for around a year. Definitely learned a lot. One thing for sure, Owls are the baddest birds out there. In the sanctuary, I’ve seen even Bald Eagles and Hawks freaking out when taking the Owl out for a clean up.
There is something cat-like about owls that I love.
Yall are such a blessing. Humans like you help keep my faith in humanity.

Saw my first Great Horned Owl & Bald Eagle when I was 10 y/o. 58 years later I am still amazed at them. Raptors, and Hummingbirds, are the coolest birds on Earth.

I feel it to be an honor that three owls have chosen my land to live in. I hear them at night calling to each other often when I spend time listening for them. This alone shows that my land is healthy for wildlife.
I can tell he is much more comfortable around the animals than he is the people. I would bet my paycheck that if wasn't for the need to educate the public in order to further the mission, he would probably avoid contact with most folks he doesn't know. I feel the same way 😂

That owl pounced upon the opportunity to try to escape. It's great to watch the owl soar after flapping quickly. It is a sad day when there are no birds in the sky. Thank you for keeping the natural art and beauty of this world for us and future generations.

I would react the same way if I was that close to a GHO. Those eyes are just incredible!! Such a beautiful creature. One of my favorite of the owls. I actually have a couple that hoot at night in my neighbors pine tree. I love that sound 😄!

"The beak I don't worry about so much... it can pinch, but they don't kill with the beak."
SO glad to hear an expert pointing this out! It's a pet peeve of mine how laypersons assume the beak is the primary weapon and are mystified when an owl becomes passive when its legs are bound. Fighting with the beak would endanger those all-important eyes.

That one was lucky in its unluckiest moments, its crack was a peculiar one and it got taken in by one of the best wildlife caretakers on this globe. What a series of events... 👍👍👍👍
