Yeah this actually surprised me too both as a porn and harem. The dialogue was surprisingly realistic considering the setting. I was not expecting to sink 8 hours straight into it. I couldn't believe I had found something this good. The only reason I found it was because of this video about a Ben 10 game using the same engine. Easily one of the most enjoyable games I've ever played.
yeah, for sure. i'm glad the developer went with an anime style design because a story like this feels perfectly fitting for an anime style story. i can't wait for the next instalment
Great review. I just recently discovered it (v0.17.2) and it's interesting that even back then most of the main characters were already in the game. However a lot has changed since then. There are a few side characters (goth and one autistic/atypical which is really well written as well). My major critique on your review is that you said music is irrelevant. Yes, that's mostly true for the grindy part of the game as you spend a lot of time just running cycles with basically the same default backing track. However several key scenes have just brilliant music accompanied which really helps you to tear up or sends shivers down your spine.

The biggest impact had Surreal Forest I would say as it plays during the backstory of Ashley. It's sets the perfect mood for a fairy forest :) I also really enjoyed the music during Autumn's backstory at her home. I haven't yet found the track on the internet.
So I really can recommend this game. Even though I think in some dialogs you as the MC are a bit to passive and some dialogs seems a bit awkward and you don't say anything. However that's a rare thing

HOWEVER I just started recently looking for interesting adult games and I actually stumbled across "The Headmaster" first. I actually like The Headmaster even more to some extend. It's a very similar game mechanic (7 day weak with essentially 3 time slots per day). This game is much more focused on spanking and BDSM. However what makes this game great is the writing. You as the MC are a professional psychologist and as the name suggests you're the headmaster / principal of a school. The great thing about the story is that it addresses many actual psychological issues. They are well explained and intertwined in the story. The writers pay a lot of attention to details. Just for example one of the girl has white streaks in her hair and you may think that she just dyed them. But just as a minor detail it's mentioned that she actually has a rare condition known as poliosis which is a real thing. I haven't heard about that at all to this point (and I'm in my 40s). Just look it up on wikipedia :) Here with this game I have a similar recommendation when it comes to music. Most of the time it's just some default backing track. However many key scenes have actually perfect music applied to it. Including Ravel's Bolero or Pachelbel's Canon in D. It also has several backstories which made me more than tear up a bit. I just say "Cassandra" and "Sally".
Just like the Harem Hotel, The Headmaster is also still in development to this day and a new update (for patreons this friday 2024.08.16, for everyone else a month later) is comming up soon.
The harem hotal currently has a size of about 11GB, The Headmaster about 7GB. The Headmaster doesn't have as many "places" you can go to, especially since many events are somewhat bound to a specific weekday and a specific period. Since there are 21 periods in a week it can sometimes be quite difficult to catch the right moment at the right time. The character arcs are also quite intertwined and somewhat rely on each other.
Overall both games / novels are really well made and as mentioned in thie video, almost all types and fetishes are in the games :) (twins, lesbian, bi, masochism, all kinds of insecurities, exhibitionism, edging, bullying, revenge and many major character developments which is somewhat the main focus of both games). If you have never played or heard of The Headmaster, I highly recommend to watch through the intro as well. It explains one of the major plot lines. I also highly recommend to stick to the 18+. Those games could potentially mess with your brain :P Always remember, it's fiction. So if you are mentally unstable, don't play The Headmaster. The Harem Hotel should be fine though ;)
ps: I haven't cheated in any of those games and yes, they are kinda grindy. However in HH at some point you actually get 10k at once which is quite a boost for a lot of things. Both games provide several additional events which allow you to gain extra money which didn't exist in older versions. The main reason why developer include cheats in games has always been to simplify game testing. In some engines the cheats enabling variable is called "developer". This has always been the main purpose of cheats.

back when i first reviewed this game i'm not sure if the music you linked me too was in the game. i've played the current version and also enjoy a lot of the side characters, especially Kate (the autistic one). one the songs you just sent me the one i like the most is Meydän - Surreal Forest.
i haven't played Headmaster yet but i can check it out. i have about 200+ of these adult games downloaded that i'm slowly chipping my way through. my biggest fear is that the any number of the games will get abandoned which has happened to several games i was really into. Rainy Day being the biggest blow because i was actually supporting that artist on Patreon.
I get that cheats codes aren't for everyone but i hate grinding in these sort of games so i just prefer to avoid it if i can because i'm into these games for both the story, characters and lewd content all equally.
I also know about poliosis because i met a girl in 2010 who had it. a small part of her fringe was white and half of her right eyebrow was also white. the rest of her hair was natural black. she looked so cool.
I'm also still hanging out to purchase a copy of the Lin figurine. 100% need it in my life lol

Wow, I've never met someone with poliosis, but it make sense you know about it when you know someone who has it.
Yeah, it's kinda sad how many great projects get abandoned. One of the first abandoned novel I came across was "Cobra Venom" (v0.3.9). It was made by a russian author (SaVa_Game) and the original language is russian. The english translation has some flaws at some points but overall wasn't that bad. Unfortunately roughly at the start ukraine war the author went dead silent at around march 2022. This was actually more like a thriller / undercover agent / special forces story where you lost your best friend and brother in arms when an operation went down the wrong way and after a 2 year coma you essentially take care of his family (wife and daughter). It was also quite well written, had a lot of side characters and you really had to be careful with certain choices when it came to character development. It had literally several paths you could go along. It's really disappointing when you suddenly hit a dead end at the moment the story becomes more interesting with mafia structures, hitman, corrupt cops, etc... While the game has several sex scenes, it's not that much focused on it but more on the romantic relationships between the characters
Since most of those novels take quite some time to get through, I can't imagine grinding through 200 of them :D
I do get that grinding can be a bit annoying. However The Headmaster has some interesting features. It has two modes, normal and easy. On easy things you can buy are a bit cheaper and you also get hints. What makes the UI quite unique is the replay menu. Literally all scenes and events can be rewatched. They can be sorted by character and by event type. You even get hints there what is required to unlock them. There's also a link to a written walk through that explains all the conditions for a certain event. The game does have a cheat button which lets you manipulate the 4 main stats as well as the money freely as far as I remember. Though I never used any of the cheats :)
Anyways, thanks for the review. Those games are a quite niche genre but compared to some successful games, given that most are created by indy developers, they are really well made. Some people may be off put by the pre-rendered nature of those novels / games, but I grew up with Myst back in the 90s which was completely pre-rendered, mainly due to technical limitations though. I can enjoy simple games when they're well made. Those "visual novels" are more like reading a book, but with supporting images and sound. It still leaves some space for imagination.

Good review. But for future reviews may I advise you to edit some pictures on screen when you’re talking about the certain subject. Good points but it’s kinda hard to stay attentive for 25 minutes if you just talking

Great review. I'm currently downloading it while watching this. Eager to start playing. Many of the reviews and comments from players have said that the money grinding really got in the way of everything else, which is probably why the dev's put the money cheat code into it. I really hope that it will let me choose to love/dom each woman individually instead of a set path through the entire story. Thanks for sharing with us, mate. Cheers.

@@SonOfAlma I'm loving the game. Binge played all night. It's right what you said about the story and character development. I really thought that Lin was gonna be best girl at the beginning, but I somehow ended up really going for Ashley. Sure, she's crazy, but she's the best kind of crazy. I just want to wife her and put all my babies in her tummy. I'm hoping there is a marriage or impreg in the game, but don't spoil it for me. I'm trying to play as blind as possible. Thanks again. The realism of the situations involved during the sex scenes are really well done. It was a lot of fun corrupting everyone lol

@@SonOfAlma May I suggest BlackMagic Resolve video editor it's a free video editor that allows up to 4K video production, you can be up and running with just a few tutorial videos. I use it but honestly I haven't uploaded a new video to my channel in about 10 months now hopefully will start again.
