Today I will be showing you guys how to add Apple CarPlay/Android Auto to your 2004-2015 VW, SEAT, or Škoda for under $300! This video includes everything you need to know about installing this to your car, such as compatibility, model variants of the radio, installing the radio, and a review of the radio! This radio is essentially plug and play with compatible models, and it's cheap too, which makes it the best upgrade you can do to these cars!

Thanks for posting this. One thing though - internet radio is not a direct substitute for a satellite radio (DAB) tuner, which doesn't eat into your data allowance.
Just got mine and the I got the F model and it’s really nice.
Your old radio looks like mine in my 2014 Tiguan. Except mine doesn't have Sirius. Since the instructions and our radios look the same, Iʻm excited.

Oh, didn’t realize I’d lose digital radio with this unit. Still seems worth it to get CarPlay. 👍🏽
You can literally get a radio tuner app on your phone that works with Apple CarPlay or android auto and you’ll have your digital radio right there, so yeah you technically lose digital radio in the unit itself but you still have the option for digital radio through Apple CarPlay, or android auto That’s what I do although I mostly stream with Pandora music or TH-cam music so either way, but sometimes I use the radio tuner app on an Apple CarPlay and it’s really good?

Great video!! I'd be happy to hear any relevant updates, 2 years after this was recorded. Is the 187F still the best recommended? What is the 187G? Are these units OEM or close knock offs? I am specifically curious about the quality of the FM radio receiver component which tends to be great on OEM but really garbage on aftermarket Android units. Also - how well does the screen do in direct sunlight (huge windscreen of the SEAT Alhambra)? I've looked at a few videos, everyone is showing CarPlay - I haven't seen a single demo of Android Auto. Does it work? Any evidence that it does? Can you recommend a seller? Is Lemon Shark a seller or manufacturer? Know anything about them? OK, I have flooded you with questions. I hope you can help with some... Cheers!

There seems to be a new model with no aux a scan button where the mic would be and the mic is moved to the bottom left middle is sd card and right side usb a. Can you cover that model please?

Yes it does, as long as your car has steering wheel controls! No modification required!

Very informative and detailed video, thanks 🙏🏻 Would you or any viewers have a comment on the audio quality and FM reception of these (expecially the ”F” model) compared to etc. original Skoda radios ? Does these units sound as good as the original models they would be replacing ?
FM radio quality is pretty good from this thing. I have the 187F and it has a duel antenna to single antenna adapter that it comes with. This means no DAB radio but the standard FM quality is pretty good. I have a radio tuner app that I use on apple CarPlay which allows for DAB radio quality and I stream Pandora and TH-cam music mostly so the radio quality was never a concern for me. The unit is pretty great overall.
@@velvetrooster5569 do you mean a single to a dual or is the 187f a duel to single
@@steamieratom3328 single din and single antenna plug. Most VW cars have the dual plug but they come with the adapter.
@@velvetrooster5569 okay the only other thing is the adapter he shows in the video has one wire going to the double end part but I can only find the adapters that have 2 wires going to the double end also because the one I bought doesn’t come with the adapter

I upgraded to a RCD330+ just before this video. It was a struggle to find one with Android Auto, because I didn’t even knew there are models by Viseon. Still I got lucky with the „no name“ one. Also the RCD 330+ does feature multitouch, I think CarPlay just doesn’t support it, as it does work quite well on Google Maps with Android Auto
Are you happy with the unit? how is the quality of the display, is it bright enough? Does the Android Auto work? How good is the radio receiver, is it as good as OEM?
@@artandsoul11 Hey actually I'm super happy with this unit. You'll just need to be sure that it supports android Auto as well. Many only work with Carplay. I think the "Noname" ones should be fine tho. The screen quality is actually better than I thought. The radio function bothers me as there are no covers for the Stations, but in general the reception is fine I think. I Hardly listen to Radio so I don't have a lot of experience with it and it probably differs from other countries as I'm in a region with pretty good coverage

I do not. However, the glass radios in those are the best out there in my opinion!

I’m not too familiar with car parts in general. I have a 2009 MK5 GTI. So I understand I need the FAKRA adapter, a CAN bud gateway upgrade, and a quad lock adapter for steering controls. The is issue is I have no idea what to actually buy or if I’m even buying the right thing haha. Mainly the FAKRA and CAN bus upgrade. Would you mind linking me some items?

I believe it should work, if the factory headunit worked the new one will too!

Thank you for a great video. Tired of waiting for VW to provide map or software upgrade for the factory RNS315 in 1 2016 Amarok (don't think these exist in the US) I'm in the early stages of researching a hardware upgrade. It seems One the RCD330 variant might be be the solution. However for a newbie (with an Android phone) who hasn't yet seen or really understand what Carplay or Android Auto is, could anyone clear up the following? Will the phone, audio playback, GPS or map or camera functionality for any of the models described, integrate with the dash display and steering wheel controls as the factory RNS315 did? I'm assuming that if I choose carefully, phone integration might, audio playback might, and reversing camera will? But that map functionality won't? So if maps are provided by phone and app integration are spoken instructions still heard? Finally in addition to the different variants described in this video, I have also seen other model names such RCD340 RCD410, and RCD440. What significance if any, are these if only perhaps to equate to 187x variants.

I did not actually! Compared to the RCD-310, which is the factory stereo for this car, it was unnoticeable! ;)

Also, does music and/or navigation information feed back to the small screen on your dash cluster (between the speedo and revs)?

I noticed that your rcd330 has those small metal thingys on its sides to the back. My original radio has them as well. Takes a small torx9 to remove em. Problem is, they dont fit on my rcd330! What did u do?
