  • Ian Royle reviews the 1998 Vauxhall Omega Elite, and finds out whether or not it can justify the £30k price tag. He tests it for it's performance and handling, as well as seeing if it's practical and luxurious enough for a premium executive car.

MOT expired 8 years ago, safe to say this has been scrapped or left to rot.

Well if you search it now, vehicle details can't be found so it's definitely been scrapped as of 2022! Shame really.

The only thing we really learn about the car is the price, and that he thinks it's too high.

I had a P-reg '96 Irmscher Omega Elite, with the official Irmscher Body Kit - and even today, i would love to own one again, rather than any of today's offerings (comparatively speaking)
Yeah, its not that massively fast, massively comfy, high tech, or even economical . . . but enough for our modern roads - & everyone gets out of your way (thinking you are the Police) and you do get *A LOT* for your money . . . . . Its has a PRESENCE ! - much more than the other mid price cars
    Loved it !!!

And yet he never mentioned that it's a RWD, he never mentioned that the variety of engines as well.
I Still have one with 2.0 16v, an Opel of course not a Vauxhall, a JDM style and even it's 22yrs old, it drifts well ... like really well!

Stock ? How are the reliability, fuel consumption, performance, brakes ?

      @@bekirilkyaz2368 Mine is a MV6 3.0.
If you don't mind some electric stuff malfunctioning ( Auto sun shade, heated seats etc.) it is super reliable. I spend 1/3 of the maintenance compare to my friends Corolla.
High speed cruising 14km/l... City with traffic jam 8km/l.
Brake are just brakes, better than most cars, you don't feel the car going nose down when you hit the brake.
Performance is normal, mine is a 4AT so the power shines after 90km/hr.
I don't get why this guy said the suspension is soft or something, I changed mine into Bilstein with harder spring, and it feels amazing, you will slide out before you feel the rotation. ( You will need to try to actually slide, so no worry ).

Watching this i remmember your analysis of the Dawoo Leganza(2000,2002)..you sort of aproved it although our experiance here in hot/sunny Israel, with Dawoo cars is that they disintegrate the moment they roll out of the assembly line..like 70's Fiats

I once had the Australian made 1997 VS Holden Commodore , with a Buick based 3.8 V6 supercharged engine , which was Opel based as well , and as both Holden and Vauxhall are GM owned they could have used the supercharged V6 in the Omega , 165KW and 375Nm ,

GM had the nerve to import this as a Cadillac... they made it less equipped than this one, but wanted it to sell as a luxury car in the US.
We didn't get that cool display next to the instruction panel... we got needle gauges. And they made it heavy, almost 3800 lbs. GM America ruined it for us.

Dude, I get over 13km/l cruising, how the hell did you make it so thirsty ? Learn to work with AT, not against it.
And, just change the spring of the rear and put some cheap Bilstein suspension on it, and you solve your rotation problem. I have almost 0 rotation on mine, it slides. (Not for going faster, just for comfort and fun).
