@@pddimez8485 I would agree but it's funny thinking about new viewers getting fooled by these comments and trying to find where in the video he did that
beyond the Homer situation, I think what speaks louder of his lack of care for fans of his music is the way every single merch release is handled, the recent poster issues adding to the long line of unfulfilled transactions. happy he doesn't buy in to taking selfies with every one who asks and doesn't allow his private life to become public property, never a need to justify the process of creating art if it isn't hurting anyone, but the way he handles his business is nothing other than embarrassing
He is rightly under no onus to care about his fans at all, and why should he? He doesn't owe us anything, and if he wants to carve a creative path of his own for himself then all power to him. In the same way that Frank doesn’t owe his fans anything, neither do his fans owe him blind support in all his endeavors. He is an entertainer, and if something he does turns people off, they have a right to stop support. He also has a right to entertain however he chooses. I love Frank, and this could just be a shock value stunt, but ultimately it seems quite cringy.
Thats actually what he said he wants people to do. To not want more, but to appreciate what they have, and let his art seep into their everyday thoughts. Frank is now making 27k cock rings.
Here's a take I haven't seen yet -- I think Frank really really wants to have stuff that appeals to the gay community and to the wealthy community simultaneously. I feel like he has some agenda there (especially with the explicit promo ads). And it's a really fucking weird intersection of bullshit. If you listen to the latest stuff, and the fact that a lot of the vinyls and unreleased stuff directly reference the gay club scene and how prominent sexuality is part of his canon of work, this drop really screamed to me that it's luxury stuff but DEFINITELY NOT for the masses and it's intentional. He wants to be high fashion and be his own entity in general. The couch he bought and displayed and the set designs of his stuff is all high-tier designers that literally no one can afford (Tom Sachs, his couch on his insta is like 1970s art ). His Met Gala shit was over the top too. He had a small animatronic with him. That must have cost a fortune. I don't think he cares at all and I think if you look at his career, he has never been about fan service or being a man of the people, despite the wide appeal of his songs. To be fair, the last half of Blonde basically also screams "YOU DON"T KNOW ME AT ALL STOP THINKING YOU DO" type vibe with Seigfried, Futura Free, etc. So I guess we're the fools. It's very top 1 percent capitalistic bullshit tho agreed.
So you’re saying the bisexual rich guy is making shit for gays and buying shit that is expensive? That’s literally his world why wouldn’t he project that? There’s no agenda bros just being him
I feel like Homers decision to release this product was purely for the shock humour and press, rather than it to be taken seriously. We've seen this before with the Supreme brick and most things that Balenciaga release
This isn't really about the product itself, it's a 5D marketing ploy to build and reinforce Frank's brand/image/mystique and of course, generate buzz around him/Homer. I seriously doubt this was created with any intent to sell for profit other than off a tiny handful of rich hypebeasts with no taste. The amount of conversation this has stirred up already has put Frank back in the front of people's minds, wouldn't be surprised if he dropped some new music fairly soon.
Thank you for saying this because it is exactly what I was thinking. I disagree that he will drop music soon, though. As a fan of his music, I would be ecstatic, but realistically this is just marketing for Homer and nothing more. Homer's stock probably goes up if Frank even insinuates he is making new music or shows his face. Ridiculously overpriced fashion objects have been a marketing trick of fashion houses for over a decade now. I still remember the Balenciaga "Shirt shirt" that was 2 button-downs stapled together for $1500, in addition to supreme's series of overpriced bricks and axes. I don't think Frank's heart is in music anymore. Personally I wouldn't be surprised if the weird invasive toxic para-social community around him, losing his brother, and creating a modern classic was too much for him. If he is a perfectionist, it is completely possible that he believes he can never make something as good as his previous work, so he just doesn't try. It's also possible he just doesn't like making music anymore, which would be heartbreaking but I can't blame him when there is so much pressure to follow up Blonde with an album of comparable quality.
This! This is the right take right here, there's no other lectures into this. He doesn't give a shit about his fans? Yes, but it doesn't have to do with the cock ring.
It won't though. Y'all act like it hasn't been YEARS since blonde an all you got was a badly put out merch single 😂 Y'all are coping instead of realizing he's pulling a Rihanna. He doesn't care about y'all or music like that anymore.
A £27k cock ring that looks like it would be difficult to keep clean seems more like fashion-art than a product anyone is actually expected to use. If the diamonds weren’t lab-grown I’d have an issue with it from an ethical standpoint, but as it stands… I don’t really care. It’s funny, if anything. I actually think selling overpriced fashion/merch that _is_ still somewhat affordable to normal people is much worse than this. That actually screams to me, “I don’t care about my fans/people who enjoy my designs”, because it’s clearly aimed at them despite being needlessly expensive for their means. Something costing more because a lot of thought went into it and it’s ethically sourced and produced is completely fine, but putting an absurd markup on a conventional shirt because you know people are gonna want to buy it anyways is not.
Absolutely agree, 90% of youtubers selling 20 dollar t shirt are 2 dollar T with a 18 dollar margin. And it’s made in china with extremely unethical, unsustainable and dangerous conditions To me this is way worse than just a funny product for shock value
exactly. this is for rich people to waste their money on instead of some fucked up shit. it’s how our idol gains more money from the wealthy and profits off them like robin hood or something.
Happens too often to artists. End up getting co-opted by a new culture of hangers-on and status seekers. End up producing shit no one who initially built them up would care for. Hopefully doesn’t bleed into everything he does. Same tired bullshit. Attach your name to extremely high margin commoditized bullshit to print cash - jewelry, alcohol, makeup, and fragrances.
Let’s say you’re good at making music but you always loved car design. You made into the music industry and now you’d like to use your money and influence to design cars for bentley. Are you wrong by doing this because your fans came from music?
@@budokhai I think that would be fine, but I don't think that's the case here, for two reasons. One, while the possibility is there, I still find it highly unlikely that frank ocean was ever/is an avid cqck ring enjoyer. Two, keeping in mind that the product costs at least 10x the amount it costs to produce, I can't imagine that frank ocean is a fan of the concept of overpricing things other than for the idea of gaining money. That being said, this is obviously the case of an insanely wealthy celebrity wanting more money.
Atleast he’s giving quality instead of repping inhumane and unethical products like fashion-nova & SHEIN like Kylie Jenner. Ohh but its not bad because its cheap on the consumers end right?
@@lordbauer5983 and rightly so but i think people like frank have been using that gateway for disingenuous means. Overpriced jewellery and now a cock ring? cmon
Doing purely music itself won’t pay much. That doesn’t mean musicians go into fashion and beauty just because they want more money. They are creatives and artists at the end of the day so it might come natural for them to venture out and try new things
i think that shits long gone honestly with frank saying he had a tour cancelled by covid + his brothers death i think the music he has been working on is gonna be wildly different
People need to remember, Frank was heavily involved in Odd Future and as revealed by members overtime, their only purpose as a collective was to make as much money as possible. As time goes on all members have gone quiet except Tyler and Earl who have proven they were in it for the music, at least now if not before. Frank most likely still lives by the old OF guidelines and realizes he doesn't have to make music anymore. Some of his stuff has leaked privately within the last year as well, and you know how Frank feels about leaks; if something gets out he drops the project immediately. Not surprised that he has been inactive for 6 years and I don't expect a musical release anytime soon.
Let’s also not forget about the Prep+ nightclub thing that he tried to do to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community but ended up only letting in rich, white, straight people. I love franks music but he seems to cater to rich people who will buy anything he puts out to fill the void where their personality should be.

I guess to me, I don’t get what people are bothered about with this. In reality he’s either A: Not making this stuff with sales in mind, it’s just fun for him to design stupid expensive products. or B: Making this with the same intent he had for the record label bait-and-switch thing, and just pulling one over on another subset of rich people with nothing better to do than buy status symbol jewelry. Either way, as a casual fan who appreciates a handful of his music, I am completely unaffected by this lol

I guess to me it’s not that im angry that he’s exploring creative avenues other than music. Its his lack of communication and interaction with the people who enjoy his music. Myself and millions of others connect deeply with his music and the intimate compassion he shares. It would be really nice to see him interact more but at the end of the day we can’t force him to do anything. Nor would I want to, he has to want to. Who could possibly blame him given what his family has had to deal with? I’ll be over the moon when he gives us more, i know it’ll be worth it.
eh idk, he said that his next album will have dance/techno influences and won't be anything like blonde or channel orange, in the sense that he won't speak on his personal issues like that. i'm a big frank ocean fan, but sadly, i think he's done for. blonde is my fav album ever at a 10 , channel orange and endless are both strong 9s and nostalgia is in the 8 range, but i have low expectations for his new work. nothing he puts out can top blonde, he's realized it so he'll just do his thing now, which is just sad imo. i'm just curious to see what he'll do, not excited, just curious.
Major Frank fan here, just wanted to add my opinion. A lot of people have been mentioning that beyond the Homer stuff Frank has been notoriously bad with merch drops: orders not being sent and not refunding people etc. I also saw a few people mentioning his irl interactions with fans not being great. I don’t really think that he’s changed or fallen victim to fame, he’s always been like this. Frank has always viewed himself as an artist, he shies away from “fame” and has made clear several times that his fans don’t know him. For years music was his outlet for art, I think that now he’s channeling some of that energy into fashion, in the same way that he constructed these beautiful albums that strive to capture emotions and give the listener a look into his soul, he is now doing that through jewelry. In other words he’s always been into the avant-garde art stuff, I don’t think that the pricing is about money for him, I think that he values the exclusivity, he may feel that whoever is willing to spend so much money on his designs connect with him in a similar way to those who listen to his music. I don’t think he’s turned on his fans or anything, we were never his primary focus the art was. I think he values listeners who enjoy his music the same way he appreciates those who like his jewelry they’re both privy to this part of his soul and they both see something in him that moves them. Frank has made every effort to not be viewed as a traditional celebrity, he hardly ever does interviews, he doesn’t communicate much with the public at all, and he very literally hides from the public eye. All of the issues with merch etc. have been bad, but I think much of the other complaints are born of the difference in what people expect of him as a “celebrity” vs what he sees himself as. Sorry for the long ass ramblings

this is how most of yall really feel. Frank is a real human being believe it or not. Hes not your musical jester that needs to be in the studio 24/7 dropping music for you to consume. He wants to venture into spaces beyond music and has taken a break. You can either respect his artistic integrity or complain all the time about how he hates his fans or its all about the money because you feel like he owes you music. This how everyone in here complaining and putting shit on Frank for the way he wants to live his life should act. If all you want is the music then yea just stop caring abt what else hes doing as an artist and a person and wait until he feels ready to share his art with the masses. Frank has basically confirmed that he was going to go on tour in 2020 inspired by raves, but COVID canceled it. It was also a little obvious he was going to release some project as he was building up with a ton of singles before 2020. I am also frustrated at times but it feels good at least that he was trying to give us something.
This reminds me of when I went to the MET in NYC a few years ago and they legit had framed both a square of brown and a large towel with splatter paint all over it. Had me thinking “any pretentious asshole can call something art or valuable and certain moronic people will eat it up.” Also I’m wondering: did he fuzz out the words on the screen because he can’t show a brand’s name?

I feel like if you are going to tease a project to just have it be a cock ring then that is kind of lame. If you want to release music, then do it. And if you don't, then that's okay too, but if you are just going to constantly tease then we are just going to move because we kind of already have. Like it's to the point where younger audiences are literally discovering his music not because of his relevance, but because there's an MGK cover of one of his songs.

Would love your opinion on the controversy surrounding his merch store. I’ve seen many photos of his new shirts and posters coming stained and messed up. And the customer service is non existent.
I think it’s kinda selfish to ask frank ocean for something as creatively depraving as an album. With the loss of his younger brother, man just needs to do what he wants.
It also seems like there wasn't supposed to be much crossover from people who consume his music to people to who want to buy his jewellery. From what it looks like, and read from his interview a while back, he's not looking to sale hundreds of pieces of jewellery. He wants to create something and put it out. It doesn't matter if it sales none or a hundred. I forgot who it was, but someone asked Frank for advice, he asked them how he was able to make the jump from one field to another so easily. Frank told him "You have to be okay with making less money". While a majority of his jewellery is expensive, I doubt he's making as much money as he did making music. I'm all here for his endeavours. It's interesting seeing artists branch out into other fields.
Frank probably sings at the Eyes Wide Shut parties and the Homer line is for those fans. that's why he doesn't tour or appear in public ever, he's too busy making everyone at Manhattan sex parties cry mid stroke.
I agree. Frank needs to stop making sex toys for billionaires and make music for the rest of us. I can cry to Blonde only so many times before it gets old.

We can debate whether or not Homer is meant for his average joe fans or not but it's just dishonest to say he hasn't directly advertised this to his fans; even linking to the site on his stories. I don’t care about us either, Anthony. I’m sorry but we’re through.
underrated comment
Frank Ocean doesn’t need to care about me I just want to listen to Thinkin Bout You on repeat for twenty hours
Anthony only made this video so frank can buy him one
Brain blast
Thats actually what he said he wants people to do. To not want more, but to appreciate what they have, and let his art seep into their everyday thoughts. Frank is now making 27k cock rings.
Stamped 😤😤
The couch he bought and displayed and the set designs of his stuff is all high-tier designers that literally no one can afford (Tom Sachs, his couch on his insta is like 1970s art
). It's very top 1 percent capitalistic bullshit tho agreed.
this is possibly the best comment here

I feel like Homers decision to release this product was purely for the shock humour and press, rather than it to be taken seriously. We've seen this before with the Supreme brick and most things that Balenciaga release
nah lol this feels very on brand for frank and hes the last person to care about clout like that, he just wanted to make a cock ring
Legit, the ring existed before this photo, he just photographed it on a penis, but its not specifically a penis ring, it’s just a ring.
exactlyyy literally only a couple rich people will buy it, it’s just a shock piece
*every product Balenciaga have ever released, ever.*
Lmao y’all are funny
Y'all act like it hasn't been YEARS since blonde an all you got was a badly put out merch single 😂
Y'all are coping instead of realizing he's pulling a Rihanna. He doesn't care about y'all or music like that anymore.
And he did not. And of course he wouldn't.
Maybe actually look into the product, he’s started an entire diamond synthesizing/jewelry business
And it’s made in china with extremely unethical, unsustainable and dangerous conditions
To me this is way worse than just a funny product for shock value

@@budokhai I think that would be fine, but I don't think that's the case here, for two reasons.

I honestly forgot Frank Ocean existed, let alone know he had a fashion line. Not surprised.
"Frank Ocean used to finesse the system. Now he IS the system." 🤯
You're absolutely spot on. I hate to admit it, but I don't think Frank actually cares about us. He doesn't have to but it would be nice.

this is how most of yall really feel. Frank is a real human being believe it or not. Hes not your musical jester that needs to be in the studio 24/7 dropping music for you to consume.

And if you don't, then that's okay too, but if you are just going to constantly tease then we are just going to move because we kind of already have. I don’t think the audience for Homer is meant to be the same as the audience for his music. It’s not a merch line.
