  • Part 2 We avoid disaster on this Browning Citori by getting the pad blueprint online from Lyman Products and Pachmayr®, and then pre intall, mark, and rough grind the pad. At the end we do the final hand fitting, finish, and reveal.

The average joe thinks it's as simple as changing out a light bulb for another until seeing your video. Lots of time consuming and precision work goes into changing or adding a recoil pad. Great tutorial sir!! Well illustrated!!

Thank you ! It does take a lot of patients. This is one of those jobs that you go slow to go fast.

Perfection! What the work of a master gunsmith looks like; the fit is perfect, no ridges and no screw holes visible. Man I enjoy your channel.

I have a Citori Lightning that I'm wanting to perform this task on. In my late 60's, I only hope my hands are steady enough to do it correctly and neatly. Thanks for all the tips.

Very nice work. I spent many years as a Level II Gunsmith, doing just about every job imaginable. But pads were one of them. It can be tricky work such as avoiding the steel plate and grinding to continue the lines of the stock. Many would think it's a quick and dirty job, but we both know it requires attention to many details.

Great job! Better than some gunsmith jobs I've seen. My son has a Ruger number 1 that was hacked by someone. I've done a few but this time I plan to buy a fixture.

A properly fitted recoil pad like this looks worlds better than the current Browning mushy rounded at top and bottom inflex pad they put on everything.

Great stuff. So cool to see this done without a fixture. Is there something specific you use for a sealer. Any suggestions?
    Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the comment and question. I do seal. I use a thinned down tung oil for sealing the end grain.

I'm going to Gunsmithing school at the moment and I really wish they would allow us to use a belt sander because hand sanding the recoil pad down takes so long.

Well...learning handwork is an essential first step to understanding material and technique. It is important to understand time and feel. I may start with a machine...but if you watch...I always finish by hand. It also teaches patients...that is so critical to craft. Thanks for watching and commenting Trojan!

Putting a recoil pad on is easy. Putting a recoil pad on and having it look like it’s supposed to be there and fit without any misalignment is a difficult task.
