I know nothing about running AV equipment but your videos enable me to talk to my production team and clients without looking like a complete idiot. Thank you for your hard work Brian.
Just added this to my DJ setup after months of debating on whether I need vs want a sub. Speaker setup consists of pair of EV ZLX 15” and added this sub. Decided to add this as it was easier financially due to zzounds pay as you play program. Next on the list to add to my inventory is uplighting.
Thanks for the post. I own one of these and I noticed when researching, there weren’t many videos about this sub on TH-cam. Just the EKX 18. In my opinion this is the perfect sub for a Mobile DJ. It hits harder than my ELX 118p’s.
Thank you much for the feedback. For us who are looking and can't get to a music store to listen to them, this is very helpful to know! KUDOS to you and @Emilian Musat
I have the EKX 18SP, and I do love it, but I sometimes find myself wondering if I should have just grabbed a pair of these instead. The 18 is great, but sometimes 'too much' for the weddings I do. The 15 may have been a better choice, while being a bit smaller and lighter - and for the rare occasion that I needed more I could have a second 15 and couple them. The EKX series is great. At under 60lbs this subwoofer is a beast!!
I own this EKX 15 and to be honest, it sounds just as good as my QSC KW181 up to a certain point. Obviously the QSC goes lower and hits harder but it cost and weighs almost double. The EKX15sp is still enough to rattle windows and shake a few bottles off the shelves.
I am a wedding DJ as well. Occasional proms and other events. I have 2x Yamaha DXr 15s which have provided enough sound/bass for most events, yet not enough for completely open air environments. Wondering, should I just get 1 EKX 15SP to pair with my tops....or do you think the 18inch is worth the extra lugging around? I'm only going to do one sub.
Thanks for the review. We're a 7 piece wedding band - crowds from 100-400 and some corporate events usually no more than 500. I was thinking two EKX12P tops and one 15SP sub. With the sub's 2 inputs, in that configuration with 1 sub, would you run both tops into the sub or just one top into the sub running a mono board mix into the tops?
I think a pair would be better for your application. It will also give you more flexibility between crowds of 100-400 people. I have a pair of the ekx15sp that I use with a pair of Yamaha dxr8 and it sounds great.
im surprised at just how much power is packed to a compact and portable casing...long are those days where you needed a trailer to move from gig to gig..now a small to mid size suv can be sufficient
Hi Brian, I have a question. In the EV Manuel they show "full stacking system signal path" It shows 4 speakers hooked up to a mixxer. But what if you're just using the Aux port and no mixxer? What would the signal path be do connect all 4 speakers. I have 2 ZLX's for tops and 2 EKX 18s. I just want to use the Aux port. Thanks
If you are using a sub with a main and you're running the cable from the board to the sub, then a patch cable from the sub to the load speaker. In this setup, do I need to set the crossover on the Sub and the Main, or just the sub? Thanks!
Hey Brian as you mentioned in the video. The EKX is a little brother of the ETX line. I have a set of ETX 15p tops with 2 bottom EKX 15 subwoofer . Do you think is a good combo? Or do I need to but the ETX subwoofer as my top . Thanks
Do you have to save your settings with a bank or does it save the settings after the first set up? If you have to bank it do you have to recall it every time or will it just use it automatically?
Can I use 2 EV Sx A250 speakers as my tops (older less powerful speaker) with 1 EV EKX 15SP subwoofer? Will there be any degradation of the performance of my tops? Specifically the one that is fed from the subwoofer?
For small to mid size concerts, Yes! For small concerts, you can get away with satisfying bass by just 8 10 inchers! Quad 15 inchers will suffice! If you can be around 90 - 110db, that will suffice just well! If it's indoor event, your gear will perform well!
Hi Brian. Thank you for your videos, i'v' seen many of them and they are interesting, there is always something to learn. I'm not a DJ, but musician, I have 2 Evolve 50 and 4 ELX200 10P tops. When we play in a bigger venue, I add the 4 ELX200 10P to spread the sound and I like it, But I was thinking instead of using these Evolve 50 in those situations, would be to buy 2 EKX 15SP and coupled them with the 4 ELX200 10P. Two tops for each sub. What do you think ? Are the ELX200 10P be a nice match with the EKX 15SP ? (sorry for my poor English 😊)
Hi friend keep in mind that the Evolve 50s have 120 degree horizontal coverage, while the ELX 10 have 90 degrees each. So be mindful how you set them up because one configuration could have less coverage than another , depends how you mix and match the speakers
how much did the setup cost in total im looking for good Quality but light as hell i have a very serious terminal illness so im not always strong so i need something light
Debating on a pair of these or the elx200sp 12”... I do weddings (125-250 people) and currently own a pair of Mackie Thump 12” and 15” tops. Would love to hear some thoughts.
Have the EKX 18SP wanna upgrade my sub par 15s tops. Which would be better in your opinion with my 18, the EKX 12s or 15s. Crowds are no larger than 150 inside and out.
I have the zlx12p and I’m looking at getting a sub but I’d rather get a 18 just cause I will mostly use it in big venues. Would you recommend this over the 18 for reasons mentioned above?
Seth Garrett I went with the recently released ELX200 12s awesome sound. Spl and hz not much different than the 15s. And the convince of controlling them via BT spot-on.
Hey Brian great video as always. 👍! ? Looking to buy a pair 15s evs to combine with my 12s Mackie's Thump As. Do you think this is a good combination?. I don't normally like mixing different brands. EVs sound great, but darn expensive. 😆 How do I use the knob on back with my Mackie thump As 12s. Just press the EV 12 ekx selection or is there other options?. Never owned EVs b4. Thanks Brian you are 1 of the best on TH-cam for sure. God bless stay safe brother 👍!
2 questions, 1, what's that bad boy cost? 2. Will it fit in the front seat of a vehicle....? I think I'm gonna buy a sports car, when I do small club gigs I usually bring my tables and a sub I usually stand on so I'm over the crowd.... but my subs like 6 yrs old 400w I need more bass :) I'm sick of spending the fuel in my 5.4 v8 truck.... I want to go fast and less gas but still be able to have a small show :) I've been off for 6 months due to being attacked after a club gig thinking I was someone else.... so when my head is all healed up I want to come back to the scene strong.... I love your vids btw, informative... include prices if possible :) thanks broski
buy a tesla or any very fuel efficient car and use something very powerfull but compact that way you wont need to worry about fuel aswell as having space etc.
I do not like / recommend EKX. If you need more bass and something compact go with somethning serious like RCF 905 as II - th-cam.com/video/KZ4oMQFvd7Q/w-d-xo.html

You actually run your L R main outs to the sub and then run the Sub outs to your Tops/Mains, not the other way around like you described.
is this sub get louder than the elx118p ?

Hi Brian trying to decide which is better this or the ELX200sp which is $250 more per.
Any noticeable difference in sound/ volume/ punch
how does this sub compare to the RCF 705s you were using?
If you are using a sub with a main and you're running the cable from the board to the sub, then a patch cable from the sub to the load speaker. In this setup, do I need to set the crossover on the Sub and the Main, or just the sub? Thanks!

How’s the pocket pro moving heads without the dmx ..how’s the sound active or the 4 shows on them ..or do they need dmx a must
Just wondering if u ended up doing the video on cardioid mode. Just wondering how to wire both subs and both tops
Hey Brian, just wondering how the sub is going. Considering getting the EKX18 to go with 4 RCF300A's. Good combo?
Very thorough... Does it have a hi pass filter going out to the tops?
Thanks for the video. Just ordered 2!
Trying to build a micro set up .. think of this sub or the one you used for your micro set up zxa1 12". Any other 12" subs I should consider ?
Thanks for the review. Is it posible to set the low pass in thru Mode? I mean let all frequencies pass to the next speaker
Do you have to save your settings with a bank or does it save the settings after the first set up? If you have to bank it do you have to recall it every time or will it just use it automatically?
When you set the LCD for the first time will it be saved by default or do you have to save it yourself?
Hi Brian thanks for the video. I was wondering do you know if you can update the firmware and how?
How would using 2 of these on a DJ set compare to using my one QSC KW 181
Can I use 2 EV Sx A250 speakers as my tops (older less powerful speaker) with 1 EV EKX 15SP subwoofer? Will there be any degradation of the performance of my tops? Specifically the one that is fed from the subwoofer?
Do you know if these numbers ev has are peak or continuous. They just power rating 1300 watts
Question?? In know you own RCF products... how would you differ the sound vs the rcf subs? Also what size voicecoil do they have? Thanks
I haven't used RCF in maybe 3 years & know very little about their current product line.
briansredd would you say these subs handle a 250 ppl event ??
Yeah sure
is this good for live PA, concert
For small to mid size concerts, Yes!
For small concerts, you can get away with satisfying bass by just 8 10 inchers! Quad 15 inchers will suffice!
If you can be around 90 - 110db, that will suffice just well! If it's indoor event, your gear will perform well!
For huge crowds, there are line arrays! Point sources! Etc.. octa 12 for huge crowds will suffice!

Sorry to hear that, hope you're feeling better. Well the 12" tops were $600usd each and the EKX 15" sub was $800usd. Well worth the price

MAYBE. You'd probably be better off with a 12 inch subwoofer for a compact car
buy a tesla or any very fuel efficient car and use something very powerfull but compact that way you wont need to worry about fuel aswell as having space etc.
