My 89 Saleen had the same chatter. Ended up being the clutch fork hitting the bell housing due to the cable being too loose. I tightened it up and it's all good now but I'm sure I'll need to go through it again sooner or later. Good video. Thanks.

Gotcha, thanks for sharing your experience! And yes these older cars always need something to be looked at again, or a new issue pops up. I drove my 95 today about 30 miles and thankfully no issues, knock on wood

You didn't need to do all that man. That's the whole point of the firewall adjustment ...can tighten the cable there with ease.

After you pry on it you should just push it up the nuts are supposed to be smaller than the big hole on the forks and it will slide out so then you have plenty of room to adjust the nuts then slide it back through the big hole and down to put it back in

Will a loose clutch cable make it hard to shift gears intermittently?

I believe so, because even though you pushed the clutch pedal all the way down, a loose cable may not pull on the clutch fork enough to fully disengage the clutch. Make sure it is snug/tight but not too tight that you cause extra wear on the clutch.

Which way makes it tighter? I just got this steeda clutch cable, was good for a couple days but started to lock me out from gears, think the cable broke in and got a little loose

If you have a firewall adjuster, try turning it counter clockwise maybe 2 turns or so and that TOB squeek should go away

Yep I ended up doing that! Had to use a pair of channel locks since I couldn’t fit my hand in that area to turn the adjuster, definitely helped the squeak go away mostly.

@@donatinghorsepower5100 its been a while, so idk if you still have this issue, but you can grease the throwout bearing where it contacts the clutch fork, that has completely solved the noise for me. you might need to re-grease it every year or so, but works like a charm

You need a throw out bearing.
You're loading it up too much
