- BRAZILIAN MUSIC INSTITUTE featuring the "Duo Siqueira Lima - FERNANDO (Brazil) & CECILIA (Uruguay) / guitarduosiqueiralima at the UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA in 2009 performing Tico Tico no Fubá (Zequinha de Abreu). The Institute was founded in 2001 and is annually directed and organized by WELSON TREMURA. www.arts.ufl.ed.... In this video Fernando and Cecilia created an original and unique process of hand exchange by re-arranging the famous Brazilian song Tico Tico no Fuba by the Brazilian composer Zequinha de Abreu (1880-1935). O Instituto de Música Brasileira www.brazilianmu... é organizado e promovido anualmente durante o mês de Maio pelo professor e músico Welson Alves Tremura. Durante os últimos dez anos tivemos a presença de grandes violonistas, pianistas, cantores, e instrumentalistas (Antonio Adolfo, Jovino Santos Neto, Hercules Gomes, Ulisses Rocha, Marco Pereira, Diego Figueiredo, Jorge Continentino, Roberto Sion, Beatriz Malnic, Alieksey Vianna, Jorge Continentino, Jose Rastelli, Nonato Luiz, Julio Figueiredo, Paulo Martelli, Celso Machado, Richard Miller, Carlinhos Pandeiro de Ouro, e Adriano Santos).
Those who know how to play guitar appreciate even more this duo's virtuosity. Not only are they playing their part at the same time in a single guitar, in several instances it is Fernando who is picking the strings to what Cecilia is playing on the neck. That's even more difficult.
Fernando picks for Cecilia and Cecilia picks for Fernando, simultaneously. Makes it even more challenging 😊
Even without playing the guitar I had picked up on that. It has to be so difficult to coordinate as you're not directly controlling the "other hand". It's insane.
I found this video years ago & have found myself returning to it again & again. It is one of my favorite TH-cam classical guitar performance videos of all time.

This is wonderful. I have watched it several times. It is a joy to watch and for someone with an appreciation for musical talent , it is dazzling. The number is performed with humor and whimsy. And Cecilia has the most charming smile I have ever seen.
This duo apparently have a deep spiritual connection that allows them to act as one, and yet deriving joy in the other.

I still have an old Decca 78 of Tico Tico played by the virtuoso organist Ethel Smith. My Dad's cousin Nellie Brewer used to play it on the piano. With all those fast notes, they worked it out very well, him on the accomp. and her on the melody.

Did you notice the "crossing": her right hand, his left on the same strings, and vice versa? That's really hard to do - and they do it apparently with no effort, smiling. Unbelievable perfection.

Thanks to my wife (from Recife) I found and started charting a new, huge continent on my music world map. :)

That was so awesome! Loved it. I like that he played her right hand while she played the left sometimes. Then she played bass but he fingered the right. Insane!!!!! That takes great confidence and skill.

For me, the most incredible in when each one plays on other's string pulses. But not only. A wonderful performance!!
The timing is brutally ... awesome. Such a difficult thing to do with your own two hands, but to combine your left hand with someones right hand or vice-versa and play that fast, accurate and accentuated is ... wow.
