I believe he was offered an apartment , but it involved stairs. Selmar told Stephanie that Diesel, being a senior dog doesn't do well with stairs. No doubt Selmar will get his own apartment, but like anything else, Rome wasn't built in a day. There are many outbuildings on the property and I'm sure Selmar has his eyes on at least one. I think I know which one? :-)

I'm so relieved to learn it was merely a rumor about Selmar leaving. He is special in so many ways as are all of the people who have become beloved extended family/friends. Wonderful seeing all the things that were done while you were recovering with Philip. The woodsman is amazing! Ian and his helpers did so much in Nattie's future apartment, Selmar building the compost sections and Dan planting and maintaining your gardens. It's fun to think of how you'll finish your new suite with work area and bedroom. The stone fireplace surround is sparking Philip's creativity. Thank you for a wonderful show!

When you showed how the light comes through the chapel I got alittle emotional. Its so beautiful!!!! How the light was hitting the ceiling made it look like the ceiling was sparkling.
I teared up. It's beyond stunning, even in it's half neglected state. Stephanie to the rescue. It is good the chapel will have a chance to breathe for the summer and everyone can see how the light plays in it's walls. The chapel needs heat of some sorts to preserve future renos.
Shoutout to the tree surgeons! They are amazing! I'd be stuck in that tree forever until the fire brigade saves me like an adventurous cat... Chateau Diaries soon needs a new intro with all the recent changes!
We are going into another lockdown here in Canada also, I echo everyone’s comments about the chateau diaries being heaven sent , Stephanie and her band of merry folk are so much fun in such distressing times . 1) the compost bin is not too large for your huge property! It looks just like Charles Dowding’s, check out his channel. He’s lovely. 2) I am super excited to watch the forest management by Nick! How exciting to have your own lumber harvested, and to plan some woodland stewardship to make a habitat for native species. I think it’s really special; so few people get their own woods, so it’s lovely to maintain it for longevity and the land’s health and better enjoyment for you!
I think when the woodland area is cleaned up and there are some lovely walk ways made, to have the odd picnic table and seating for the guests to go and sit and reflect with a bottle of wine and cheese, and when the daffidols and bluebells are in bloom would be so romantic
@@michellezevenaar never thought about a camp site, could make something in the lines like Angel and Dick Strawbridge how Angel made a Glamping site,, when the lake is reinstated it could be something similar. I'm from New Zealand so we have a lot of natural wood, never thought about France lacking in that.
@@caropapa I wouldn't go for glamping site because it requires alot of investment. I would just make a bathroom thats acceptable from the outside of the chateau and a cleared space with maybe a small safe fire pit and a pick nick table. Half the fun of camping is building the camp up yourself. There's a TH-camr channel called the outdoor boys that is a great example of how fun it is for kids to just be in nature and build your own shelter. It really is hard in most of Europe to find a wooded area to camp. Most camp sites are a huge field with lots of other people camping and very little privacy. Also having the camp site close to an accommodation were you could safely spend the night if the weather suddenly changes would be great!
Stephanie. Watched an episode of Escape to the Country today from Oxburgh Hall in Norfolk. They had reproduced old tapestries by printing them onto heavy canvas. Really fool your eye into believing they were originals. Could just imagine a large curtain/hanging made from your father’s artwork.

A restoration in full swing, a possible new man to mind the woods. Watching your enthusiastic tour of the place - right down to the logs throughout the land - was witnessing commitment in action. Queen bee, many hands rely on you for labour & leisure.
I love how Selmar reuses everything possible, and there's nothing as satisfying as using lumber made from your own trees. We have a portable sawmill, and anytime we have to take a tree down, we mill it to use in future projects.
Well that’s all settled. Selmar is based in Lalande but to be self employed in France he needs 3 employers, so he will be travelling for work but at the end he will return to Lalande where he is meant to be with all the other wonderful Lalanders. All the Ians are working their magic at Lalande as we can see. Happy days. All we need now are for maman Isabel, dear Percy, our loveable Gerry the Scotsman, not forgetting the elusive Nick & his family & Michael Potts to return.

Envious of the compost bin design! With the size of your household and grounds, all the fruit and vegetable waste from the many meals prepared and the yard and garden trimmings, you will be amazed at how quickly the individual bins will fill and their contents will transition into amazing compost. Selmar has such foresight and talent. As my husband and I work on various indoor and outdoor projects with our personal effort and a few contributions from skilled professionals, I’m enjoying watching and a bit envious of all that is being accomplished by many hands!

I would definitely echo Dan's concern about the backberries going crazy, but not in the way Stephanie hopes I think! We have raspberries & blackberries here (& in Canada the winter get quite a bit colder - they still manage to survive!) and the suckers they send out have tried to stage a hostile takeover of certain areas of the garden. Luckily ours are contained by cement, but in vegetable beds with no barriers there's definitely a danger of them taking over the entire bed 😬

I must say that things are really hopping there at the chateau! The tree surgeon did a really bang up job and it will be excellent to have him manage the forest as much really does depend on it. So exciting to see all the activities and updates! The amazing fireplace in the little "grotto" under the veranda is wonderful. The little window opening almost looks like a recessed place for a little "santos" to rest. A little alter. I think this may well have been part of the old castle. How exciting! Philip has the true historian in him. I love to see the visible excitement as you find these "new" old artifacts and hopefully restore them to their former glory. If not usable as part of a mantle, perhaps your fireplace surround could be part of a garden feature, or a fountain feature in the Jardin d'Isabelle? Stephanie. Watched an episode of Escape to the Country today from Oxburgh Hall in Norfolk. They had reproduced old tapestries by printing them onto heavy canvas. Really fool your eye into believing they were originals. Could just imagine a large curtain/hanging made from your father’s artwork.

A restoration in full swing, a possible new man to mind the woods. Watching your enthusiastic tour of the place - right down to the logs throughout the land - was witnessing commitment in action. Queen bee, many hands rely on you for labour & leisure.
I love how Selmar reuses everything possible, and there's nothing as satisfying as using lumber made from your own trees. We have a portable sawmill, and anytime we have to take a tree down, we mill it to use in future projects.
I think they said the tree surgeon was also going to mill the trees for them into planks so they can use them.
Well that’s all settled. Selmar is based in Lalande but to be self employed in France he needs 3 employers, so he will be travelling for work but at the end he will return to Lalande where he is meant to be with all the other wonderful Lalanders. All the Ians are working their magic at Lalande as we can see. Happy days. All we need now are for maman Isabel, dear Percy, our loveable Gerry the Scotsman, not forgetting the elusive Nick & his family & Michael Potts to return.

Envious of the compost bin design! With the size of your household and grounds, all the fruit and vegetable waste from the many meals prepared and the yard and garden trimmings, you will be amazed at how quickly the individual bins will fill and their contents will transition into amazing compost. Selmar has such foresight and talent. As my husband and I work on various indoor and outdoor projects with our personal effort and a few contributions from skilled professionals, I’m enjoying watching and a bit envious of all that is being accomplished by many hands!

I can't think of a better place to while away a few weeks. A year just over since I found your channel. I love the community that has been created and the cameraderie between you.

I would definitely echo Dan's concern about the backberries going crazy, but not in the way Stephanie hopes I think! We have raspberries & blackberries here (& in Canada the winter get quite a bit colder - they still manage to survive!) and the suckers they send out have tried to stage a hostile takeover of certain areas of the garden. Luckily ours are contained by cement, but in vegetable beds with no barriers there's definitely a danger of them taking over the entire bed 😬
The thornless blackberries are pretty good, I would only have them the same with boysenberries go thornless
We had the same growing up just across the river from Ontario. My dad put steel casing in the ground to stop the spread.
The Triple Crown variety, which I believe these are, don't run rampant like the wild blackberries. Much easier to control.

So much work getting done. I am envious. It snowed today in Michigan and I am ready for spring. I have a lot of seedlings growing inside but my family would like the kitchen table back as it is currently covered in pots of plants, haha.

I must say that things are really hopping there at the chateau! The tree surgeon did a really bang up job and it will be excellent to have him manage the forest as much really does depend on it. Selmar’s compost setup is great and Ian and the team have made huge strides in a short time! Bravo everyone! 👏

So exciting to see all the activities and updates! The amazing fireplace in the little "grotto" under the veranda is wonderful. The little window opening almost looks like a recessed place for a little "santos" to rest. A little alter. I think this may well have been part of the old castle. How exciting! Philip has the true historian in him. I love to see the visible excitement as you find these "new" old artifacts and hopefully restore them to their former glory. If not usable as part of a mantle, perhaps your fireplace surround could be part of a garden feature, or a fountain feature in the Jardin d'Isabelle? That old fireplace looks like it might be from the "Régence" period, when the changeover between Louis XIV and XV happened.
