I gotta say, I love how you talk about going the cheaper route, even tho folks with a game room setup like yours are already set up and have the means (or appear to) to pay whatever the cost for their next addition to the collection.
You can also clip the two tabs out of the bottom of the slot in the SNES. Or trade out the boards in the cartridge. That's probably the least destructive way as long as you have a 3.8mm security driver.
If only it were as easy as just cutting the tabs to play North American games on a Super Famicom, I ended up having to cut out the slot so that they would fit on mine (don't be too angry at me for doing that I did it many years ago and I didn't know better, I just wanted to play some import games that I had gotten). I suppose you could swap the cartridge shells of us games for super famicom cartridge shells but I don't have spare shells for that.
there just a couple of plastic stops preventing your famicom games from fitting in. No game genie or mod needed. Super famicom games are NTSC as well. Its just about the shape of the cartridges.
The Game Genie doesn't work on all SFC games because some games include an extra set of pins on the left and right sides (in addition to the center pins).
I was bored at work scrolling through eBay and I looked up mega man X3 for SNES, the SoB cost $300. Look at the Japanese version and it was $30. I came home and immediately looked up how to play super Famicom games on a SNES
Thanks to 3D Printing, it is now possible to make a retrofit part for the SNES (i.e. the North American one of course!); the original and Jr models without those intrusive notches! In other words, you don't have to use pliers anymore to affect your investment's resale value! And you can even revert to factory original at any time in the future! 😁
Thanks man. I’ve always wanted an authentic copy of Earthbound, but can only find the Japanese Mother 2 version and it’s in box for $50. I’m probably gonna buy a mod chip that changes the language of those exist.
I had an adapter that was made for this purpose. I bought it used on ebay with a Dragonball z game about 15 years ago. I lost it moving sometime later, and have never been able to find another one since.
Of course there's the similar process in doing this with the SNES console itself which made me wonder, was there any particular reason you chose to mod the Super Game Genie over the console, which would cut out the "middle man" of the SGG?
Really the only reason is to show a different way to play these games on original SNES hardware. Ive heard several people say that they didn't want to mess with their original console and i just got to thinking of potential different ways!
Not so sure about running any special chip games eg. Street fighter Zero 2 Rockman X2,x3, Kirby Superstar f1 exhaust heat 2 Star fox etc.on a Game genie
I know Im messaging a bit late.... but this mod works for FX chip, just bought an adapter from My Arcade, but doesnèt work FX chips and even Mario kart is not working properly... before buy a game genie I just want to know if works it! Thanks!
I'm afraid you'll have the same problem with a Game Genie. You'll have to remove the tabs from the console or remove the cartridge shell and insert the board by itself into the console.
I came across this and wow This was super simple.I have a game genie I was going to put on eBay and now i'm not going to but i will be getting some famicon games thanks
We started by going after our favorite games from childhood once we owned the majority of those we started researching popular and obscure games that sounded fun to play. Then there's Goodwill and yards sales! Have fun with it though!
If you didn’t already start which would be weird I suggest supermario world for platform ing, contra 3 for run and gun, loz a link to the past for action rpg, final fantasy 6 for rpg, turtles is time for beat emups, surprisingly Darius twin for shmups, Mario kart or fzero for racing, and the best game ever made (hehe my opinion) super castlevania 4, and Metroid.
The things you ripped off the game genie there are like bigger ones inside of the super Nintendo in the cartridge slot. All you have to do is grab them with some pliers and gently wiggle them Side to side and they pop right out and you can play super Famicom games on the super Nintendo without any adapter
I have a CAESAR famicom to snes converter is it valuable? I also have a game genie so this was pretty interesting. I only have one Japanese Game though and that's Super Street Fighter 2 of course. SUBD
no game genie needed, just clip the 2 tabs at the bottom of your console, where the cartridges go (you gotta open it up.. and youll see those 2 stoppers)
Back in 2002 I remember coming across a gunpla and videogame store in Japan that was having a clearance sale. They were selling Dragonball Z Super Butouden 3 and Dragonball Z Hyper Dimension for Super famicom brand new for 300 yen each. I bought a bunch and resold them on ebay for $70 each. You could get a ton of rare super famicom games in brand new condition from a price range of 100 to 1400 yen. Those were the days for sure.
Fun fact, you don't even need Game Genie. Just open up your console and do the same to a couple of little plastic thingys stopping the famicom cartridge from fitting in. Done.
I gotta say, I love how you talk about going the cheaper route, even tho folks with a game room setup like yours are already set up and have the means (or appear to) to pay whatever the cost for their next addition to the collection.
thanks man! yes, im always looking for ways to save money to put more games into the collection

Or trade out the boards in the cartridge. That's probably the least destructive way as long as you have a 3.8mm security driver.
for sure, great idea!
You can also buy one of those cartridge converters to mount onto your Super NES. They can be inserted in the cartridge slot.

This is a fantastic idea. I never heard of anyway to do this other then modding the system. Thanks for sharing.
for sure, glad you enjoyed it!

@@inmundo6927im not mangling my console
What a great idea! Now I don't have to damage my SNES to play SFC. Subscribed. Great vid Rick!
The Game Genie doesn't work on all SFC games because some games include an extra set of pins on the left and right sides (in addition to the center pins).
its not even needed.. only thing stopping super famicom cartridges are a couple of pieces of plastic in your american console.
That's a great idea. I've simply removed the PCB of the SFC game and placed it in a spare SNES shell. Great video!
really cool! I appreciate it
thats smart!
@@frooshante I've used a Game Genie as well.
Whoa. You’re a wizard.
You are a Lizard Larry
Now its time to play the sailor moon super S fighter...
Like many other mods and converters you can forget about playing Super FX games this way.
You can also modify the back of the Super Famicom game cartridges for play on your Super Nintendo
Thank you for this! Bought a Game Genie for fifteen bucks and clipped those tabs. Much preferred to mangling my SNES permanently.
I was bored at work scrolling through eBay and I looked up mega man X3 for SNES, the SoB cost $300. Look at the Japanese version and it was $30. I came home and immediately looked up how to play super Famicom games on a SNES
really miss these type of wholesome videos from Rick

There's an adapter sold by My Arcade on Amazon that seems to do the same thing. Maybe you could give that a try
How did I not know this? 🐸
ha, i dont know man...i was just sitting around one day thinking and thought id give it a try!
Dude great video! Love your intro!
thank you so much!

@@retrorick Honestly--that's our issue--not wanting to mess with the original console. Lady Laci won't let me do so unless we have a second SNES. lol
@@DoYouNerd i get it for sure!
We used to take the plastic shell in and stick the board in the cartridge slot
Try using a super famicom to SNES adapter cartridge
Can you use game genie codes on the super famicon games now after cutting off the tabs?
I didn't use a knife, I just used a pair of pliers to bend and break them, and now the Super Famicom games fit.
Can I use any game genie? I think I have one but it might be for the SEGA Genesis 🤔 it won't work with the Famicom, will it?
is that converter is just goona work for the original cartridge?
I'm assuming the game genie is still usable on Super Nintendo games and not only to play Super Famicom games once it's modded?
Great Job Retro!
This helps me out a lot thank you I have a tun of Japan games and my retron 5 SNES port went out so I bought an original SNES
Sweet I have the snes game genie!! Now I know a new way to play famicom games!! Awesome thanks!
Uhhhh what???? I gotta try this out this weekend!
do it man!

And streetfight 2 Turbo or mk2 for fighter
I’m currently looking for Chrono Trigger on the Super Famicom which is WAY cheaper than the US version.
I just so happen to have a smashed up Game Genie that still works.
Thank you so much you just save me some money

I love the engrish of the rock man x games

So I have this problem but in reverse because I'm looking for a way to play American games on my Super Famicom

they ARE Ntsc games.. its only the outside shape that is different.

Or just buy a PAL SNES
Wouldn’t that make all games run at 50hz?
or you can get a reproduction's for 30$
or an emulator for $0. So.. that´s beside the point
you just break the 2 tabs inside the console. Its not really a mod.
No
Just cut the taps on the console easy
No
Waste of time
Not a waste of money *
