I feel like what he is trying to imply in the video is that twitter helps people with the same world views / social experiences to connect and mobilize / start a conversation on a common problem. It is not segregation nor saying twitter belongs to black people. Its just saying that social media creates an extention of a physical comunity, that ends up being the voice of a group.
Okay, Anna's comment is one of the few rational and educated ones here. That's a lot better than just saying, "Twitter belongs to black people, and they should dominate it." ( Thank you, Anna).
***** I am all for communal empowerment but it's rather dividing cultures than uniting them... Look at South Africa, but again the way you use Twitter is no different from how other communities or personnel used Twitter.
Actually the stats pointed out in the video (3x more likely to use daily and used in different ways) show that it is different from how other communities use Twitter and that is ok. It's just a study in demographics and business. It happens all of the time. It only divides if you stand there on the other side of the line scowling and fretting. I for one, look across the line and appreciate, learn, and chime in when possible. Haru Yantoi'm referencing the US and by extension the western world. However, because America's biggest global export is entertainment, when it comes to products and or content based in the entertainment industry, again black twitter seems to be where it's at. The back consumer youth are, as they always have been for decades now the taste makers and trendsetters for all other races (for the most part) in America when it comes to youth, which by extension then expands outside of America to the rest of the world via the globalization of American entertainment.
Hey, they were told their ancestors arrived here in the bottom of a ship and they ran with! Not knowing there were no damn "Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade" in the first place ... just a "Middle Passage" with its own connotative. Hotep was deciphered off a supposed hieroglyphic by some foreigners claiming to be Egyptiantologist studying the life and times of the Kemetic people. Hotep literally means two things "Offering" and "To be at peace/Be pleased, be gracious, be at peace." Which is a part of an ancient Pharaoh named Hotepsekhemwy’s Nebty; ‘Hotep.’ If they are "woke"? It's probably due to undiagnosed sleep-deprivation. "Hotep's pick on Jews?" LOL. The Aboriginal American Indians are the Israelites that spoke block Hebrew here in America - the Askenazi/Khazarian Jewish people are nothing more than a bunch of lying converts.
If their are any non black people who do not like the phrase black twitter. You are more welcome to call twitter; white twitter, Latino twitter, Asian twitter, Arab twitter etc. We do not give a damn!! Its funny how anything that is labeled black is an problem. Mean while we have an International District or China town in every major city. We have little Italy, communities that are named Jewish. So glad to see there is a voice out there to touch on these issues. As a white guy I learn from this. As the husband to a biracial wife and father of my biracial babies, I want to see evidence of the world the are/will be connected to.
@kabadanke it's not quite irrelevant. Biracials come from a parent of either race. If he is white and his wife is biracial, technically their kid wouldn't be considered biracial. xXTheBl4ckC4tXx there is no divide. Black twitter is just where african americans (and some africans) congregate on twitter. Not every black/african person goes on black twitter or even know what it is. People forget that african americans are an ethnic group.
NickthesegaKid The divide I mean is the divide of the people, not twitter. The places with least people o foreign background have the most percentage of people not wanting foreigners.
Is black twitter segregation though? Isn't it just based on who you follow and what hashtags you follow? I could be a white dude in Norway and start following some prominent african-american personalities and then I'd have a foot in the door. Ok, listen up people. 'Beyhive' is pronounced like 'bee-hive,' not 'bay-hive.' This should be common knowledge by now, especially on a video about Black Twitter.
Not in the English Language it doesn't. 'e' and 'y' together is pronounced 1 way, and that is 'ay' and only 'ay'. Unless it follows a consonant, in which case the 'y' is either silent or you get the long 'y' sound out of it. Why would any English speaker assume that is pronounced 'bee'??
at first I thought the name black Twitter was just an overly racial description of Twitter, like calling the gas station, black gas station when someone black is there. but this video describes it very well and now I see that it's not really twitter where black users are, it's more of the social and political power that Twitter has given to people. great video. also black twitter has the funniest posts around
Umm......it actually IS about Black users engaging with the social media site and discussing things involving black culture. That's why they call it "black twitter".
"They should just give us Twitter. We have appropriated Twitter. This is the first thing that Black people have effectively appreciated." So true. The only reason that I keep coming back to Twitter is because of this community. They're informative and engaging on any topic that crosses your mind.
I FUCKING LOVE BLACK TWITTER... I hope cultural appropriation doesn't try to recycle it and make it theirs..... we couldn't own another goldmine as our own....

If y’all are in the comments all hung up and upset about the woman saying “twitter should belong to black people.” You missed the whole point of the video and you need to dismiss yourself. Or take a breather and rewatch it. 🙄
I'm not understanding the comment section black twitter doesn't mean blacks own twitter, it's a specific group of people on twitter nothing more nothing less how can anyone be offended by something like this?
everyone out in these comments are worried about fake racism or whatever and aren't talking about how funny that scene of MLK fighting with Malcom X on twitter was
I personally LOVE black twitter I'm actually in an environment where my voice is heard either through mems , gifs and other emoji junctions . I feel safe . and I make new friends everyday . btw I Lmao when I saw that Martin Luther King jr bit ... Lol #BlackTWITTER
First video on this channel I've disliked. Putting a label like "Black Twitter" on something used by millions all over the world shows there is an issue with the black community IN the black community. Rather than continuing to stamp the word "black" before a new or already existing popular title, we should all strive to be one community. Not purposely segregating ourselves while yelling "Racism!" at anything that offends us. In the words of my favorite actor, Morgan Freeman, "I'm going to stop calling you a white man and I'm going to ask that you not call me a black man. We are just men." Shame on Comedy Central and you Trevor for running this garbage. It looks like a grab for material and racism was the closet thing on the desk.
TechNICK Edits which makes perfect sense, it's a place where mostly black people congregate. It's been labeled black Twitter for the same reason certain parts in my city have been labled "little Italy" and "Chinese time square " it describes the people who are mainly there.
ok, "black twitter" is fun and whatever, but twitter is social media used by the entire world. i see a lot more Korean or Japanese things trending Worldwide daily~ Maybe we should just give it to East Asians, yeah? Or maybe fangirls/fanboys since they have hashtags trending in the top 3 daily, for hours on end? My questions are rhetorical because the real answer is NO. Twitter belongs to everyone who uses it. Black people may use the slangs first and all the young people (and some old ones) use them in greater numbers and with greater frequency making it a global phenomenon. And yes, "black twitter" has the power to bring the black community's issues into the limelight and get a discussion going. But at the end of the day Twitter doesn't "belong" to anyone.
Also, a serious question here, how do a group spread racial/ethnic awareness without acting like protectionism? Because I feel like in an globalized world, culture is like a fluid, it should be shared and used by everyone, but apparently a lot of people don't think so and calls those who uses other culture as ignorant or insensitive, just really baffles me
Yusen Ye It is very hard to compare the US to China in this regard. It is insanly divided in racial groups but united under nationalism. Even Europe is much more similar to China despite its diversity in language and culture. Your stance on culture as a fluid is interesting but sounds earily similar to our attitude till around 2000 when low birth numbers amongst white Europeans started causing serious demographic tensions. Sometimes fluids don't mix despite a belief they will...
I find the idea of cultural appropriation to be interesting. I guess I don't understand it because there's culture for me if I need it, so it's never been that important to me. But I guess for black people, it seems like a lot of them try really hard to be different, to build a separate culture that doesn't fit with the majority of Americans. To me it seems like they're trying to bring back segregation, but I guess from another perspective they're just a minority group that's constantly struggling to be heard among the sea of other cultures. If they get swallowed up by mainstream American culture, then they can be picked off by racists and no one will know. So... I guess it makes more sense to me now, but it's still pretty damn depressing.
DaaaahWhoosh Black people aren't trying to build a different culture, they've always had one. Cultural appropriation comes from the fact that their culture is being taken and advertised as someone else's culture. Basically it's intellectual property theft but on a large social/ cultural basis.
But wait. "Yass" and "Boy bye" are black culture? Seriously, someone help an earnest confused hispanic girl out here...I picked those up on tumblr....Should I not be saying these things? Super scared this comment is going to get hate, but I'm just surprised?
LittleLionFlower Yes they come from black American culture. Have you never heard black people talk about how their culture is constantly being appropriated? You not even knowing where these terms come from is an example of how appropriation works, your at the end of it, the consumer. Alot of people in your position once told that these terms do not belong to their culture say things like, it doesn't matter, who cares, or they try to deny that it's even Black. I can't tell you if the black people around you would be upset about you using those terms, but I highly doubt it seeing as you didn't appropriate the terms yourself. But, one thing everyone agrees on is credit, other people should not be taking credit, or making money from something that belongs to another, without giving credit, because that would be intellectual theft. Even though you did not appropriate the culture or terms yourself you still use them, so moving forward it's your responsibility to be aware of the appropriated materials you consume and give credit to the communities they come from, also to hold people around you accountable for the same actions, especially the pop idols or entertainers you watch as a large part of appropriation comes from them.
4:56 "They should just give us Twitter." That's the most stupidiest thing i have ever heard. If it's true we only make up 25% of twitter, then that means 75% is everybody else :/. Why do we do this to ourselves? It's like black people feel like we can't share, we made this so only we can use it, and nobody else. This is how we stay divided!
I get where you're coming from with the "they should give us twitter" thing, although I think that was more of a passing remark than an actual belief statement. But the whole "we can't share" thing is far off. You're not taking into account the sheer amount of the culture and other non-white cultures for that matter, that get taken and used for corporate use, or simply because it sounds, looks, or feels cool. It get's to the point where there is no cultural identity that exists within the black community. So it's not that the culture doesn't share per se, but rather we try to hold on to whatever we have left.
+moti begna I get that, I'm black myself, but I have seen people say that only we can say that. Sometimes it gets to the point where it's annoying. Especially when they say you're not black enough. It's like we create a stereotype for ourselves.
When I seen that Black Mirror reference I immedietly got vietnam-like traumatizing flashbacks...my god...I swear I was 3.8 i need the ratings to get that apartment...
only downside of social media making mass groupings form faster is when they're uninformed. real shit when a court descion triggers riots by 3-4 towns worth of people to destroy a town they don't live in, storeowner whos shop originally got robbed gets destroyed by people who just wanted to help i guess; moved his family out of that town.
I don't use twitter, so I still don't quite get what this is. Is it some kind of private group? I thought twitter was sort of a big, endless mosh pit of stuff.
^^^ pretty much. Lots of people putting their two cents in, but I'm not sure they even have a twitter or know what black twitter is. If you don't have a twitter, don't even bother with it.
Understandably so. It's just not as serious as these people in the comments are making it out to be. And it's hard to understand unless you have a twitter. All good tho man
Grekkelmakker most people think their ideas and opinions are really important and must be broadcast. so they use Twitter to do the broadcasting and then a little while later they lose their job.
I feel like what he is trying to imply in the video is that twitter helps people with the same world views / social experiences to connect and mobilize / start a conversation on a common problem. "I don't think there's ever an excuse for chicken helmet. You decide to put on the chicken helmet, that's between you and your god." most surreal quote of the week

#AllTweetsMatter
Is trending.
Not all... tweets from blacks doesn't matter 😉
@@BrateNacho 😂😂 .....but you're watching this video.
@@littlegothgirl8869 and..? Know your enemy kiddie 😉
🤣🤣🤣😭
@@BrateNacho stay mad bitch.
If y’all are in the comments all hung up and upset about the woman saying “twitter should belong to black people.” You missed the whole point of the video and you need to dismiss yourself. Or take a breather and rewatch it. 🙄
"BOOTLEG MAN BOOTLEG MAN" lmao
But it's only 25% of Twitter...Does the other 75% not matter? That's why Twitter is not ours, because there are so many others on it.
I'm not understanding the comment section black twitter doesn't mean blacks own twitter, it's a specific group of people on twitter nothing more nothing less how can anyone be offended by something like this?
everyone out in these comments are worried about fake racism or whatever and aren't talking about how funny that scene of MLK fighting with Malcom X on twitter was
You don't disrespect Queen B on black twitter
Black twitter reaches out Globally. Huget influence of black twitter in South Africa
This was funny and so accurate~
Congratulations on 3M. 🥂 here's to 13M.
Black twitter and you don't interview Nathan Zed?!
Roy Wood Jr. always be killing his segments.
Black Twitter = Twitter
Black Twitter is the reason why i still have Twitter haha. Its hilarious and enlightening. Honestly one of the best parts of social media as a whole
The black community has so much life :)
I'm not even on twitter and just reading about it gives me life
black twitter is what twitter was made for

That ONE martin luther king sketch made me laugh so hard. Please more xD brilliant.

I personally LOVE black twitter I'm actually in an environment where my voice is heard either through mems , gifs and other emoji junctions . I feel safe . and I make new friends everyday . btw I Lmao when I saw that Martin Luther King jr bit ... Lol #BlackTWITTER
So powerful. Hope it keeps growing.
TechNICK Edits Black Twitter is a subgroup within Twitter it IS NOT Twitter as a whole.
Right so separating "black lives" from the rest with a label.
TechNICK Edits which makes perfect sense, it's a place where mostly black people congregate. It's been labeled black Twitter for the same reason certain parts in my city have been labled "little Italy" and "Chinese time square " it describes the people who are mainly there.
Legend says that barber is still looking for the money for Roy's haircut 😏
And you just know the racist comments are gonna start soon, smh
Roy wood jr is too funny 😂😂
ok, "black twitter" is fun and whatever, but twitter is social media used by the entire world. i see a lot more Korean or Japanese things trending Worldwide daily~ Maybe we should just give it to East Asians, yeah? Or maybe fangirls/fanboys since they have hashtags trending in the top 3 daily, for hours on end?
My questions are rhetorical because the real answer is NO.
Twitter belongs to everyone who uses it.
Black people may use the slangs first and all the young people (and some old ones) use them in greater numbers and with greater frequency making it a global phenomenon.
And yes, "black twitter" has the power to bring the black community's issues into the limelight and get a discussion going.
But at the end of the day Twitter doesn't "belong" to anyone.
This was tha bomb! LOL! :)
Seriously. I loved this piece.
People, it's a joke, made on comedy central
stop getting so damn butt-hurt and laugh
LOL the barbershop intro was too accurate
ah I see separate but equal.. that's a new concept isn't it.
Ok Tanner
This is a good one, I like that guy, I like him making more serious, yet still funny stuff.
Roy Wood Jr!!!!
As someone who is from China, I have no idea what black people or twitter is
Also, a serious question here, how do a group spread racial/ethnic awareness without acting like protectionism?
How about not appropriate Twitter to make the owners money but make our own social media platform?
They have been fucked over in the US since 1619 or something.
Expand your mindset. Talk to black people and you'll see how far off you actually are
This is how we stay divided!
but we're the ones with low IQs :/
The Plug what are you talking about?
+The Real Alister yea I wish we would stop hanging on to the past as much, I think we would be much better if we move on from most of it.
When I seen that Black Mirror reference I immedietly got vietnam-like traumatizing flashbacks...my god...I swear I was 3.8 i need the ratings to get that apartment...
only downside of social media making mass groupings form faster is when they're uninformed.
real shit when a court descion triggers riots by 3-4 towns worth of people to destroy a town they don't live in,
storeowner whos shop originally got robbed gets destroyed by people who just wanted to help i guess;
moved his family out of that town.
Roy Wood junior is a genius
I don't use twitter, so I still don't quite get what this is. Is it some kind of private group? I thought twitter was sort of a big, endless mosh pit of stuff.
don't bother if you didn't understand... smh
^^^ pretty much. Lots of people putting their two cents in, but I'm not sure they even have a twitter or know what black twitter is. If you don't have a twitter, don't even bother with it.
I was just trying to get some clarification, friend. Not all of us are well-versed in social media culture and practices.
OMG!! 1:08 Is SOOOO accurate!!! LOL!!
Where can I buy a chicken helmet at? Lol it's the tastiest form of protection.
Dang that intro reminded me how much I need to catch up on black mirror
