I'm on the quest for the ultimate/easiest pie crust ever. Angela of Simply Mama Cooks made a Buttermilk Pie. Her crust recipe comes from an old Crisco recipe just slightly different. She presses the dough right into the pie dish which I like...I don't have the patience to roll out pie crust. But I never buy Crisco. I've seen other oil based pie crust youtube bakers and they also roll the dough but they don't use milk. So, I'll use this recipe, but I'm going to press it into the pie dish. Thank you so much this actually helps a lot. God Bless.
Glenn, I made the crust as directed, spread it with brown sugar and cinnamon, rolled it, brushed some butter on, and baked it. So awesome. You can't fail with this 151 proof recipe!
Wonderful! Thank you so much Linda for getting back to me. I hope you will share the video with your friends on social media. They will THANK YOU especially with the holiday season coming up. It's a winner!
Hi Sally! Be DARING! You can do it! Lol. Sometimes it needs a little extra liquid (water is fine) if the bottom of bowl seems very dry and all the flour is not mixed in (depends on humidity, type of flour, etc), but you only need to add a tiny bit at a time until all the flour mixes in when stirred. I hope you try it and love it!

TIPS/BAKING INFO: Measure carefully. I like to fluff my flour in its container first so it’s not packed down, then scoop, and then level off scoop with edge of butter knife. As with other flour recipes you may need to adjust flour quantity depending on type/brand of four, humidity, etc., or if the bottom of the bowl seems a little dry, add 1 tbsp of milk or water at a time until dough holds together well and picks up crumbs. For sweet pies, I also add 1 Tbsp SUGAR to the flour mix. For savory pies, you can a touch of herbs to the mix, if desired. Preheat oven to 425, once pie is in, reduce heat to 400 and bake until edges are golden brown and center is light golden brown, about 45-50 minutes. I rarely prebake or "blind bake" my crusts, but if you choose to do so, line with double foil (hanging over edges), add weights of choice, and bake at 375 F for 25-30 minutes. Then raise temp to 425, add desired filling and bake approximately 20 minutes longer until edges are desired shade of light brown. I've used the silicone mat here, but use two pieces of wax paper, upper and lower, on top of the mat or just on table, it's easier. If you don't want to roll the crust out, you can actually just PAT it into the pie pan.
@@katiecauthen8957 Hi Katie! I've never tried melted shortening, but I don't see why not. Let me know how it turns out! My concern would be how warm it would be. Chilled ingredients make better crusts.

Hi! Thank you! I made chicken pie today and used your recipe! The best!!! I stopped making pie because it was so much work and mess, and because it used up too much butter turning it too expensive. I will be making more pies now! I loved how light & flaky it turned out! Quick too 💕

Thanks for posting this! Ive not seen a pie crust recipe w/milk, so I’m excited to try it. Saving time on cutting in the butter would be fab. U. Lous! BTW, coconut oil at room temperature delivers a superb and flaky crust while reducing the cutting in time. Instead of a 1:1 replacement for butter, I cut back the coconut oil by about 20 percent. That said, it isn’t as fast as your recipe.

Thank you for sharing this recipe, pie crust and dumplings are always a adventure for me, never know how they will turn out! Farmer MeeMaw sent me over, love your bandana's, used to wear them all the time and still have a few.
Hi of course I’m super GLAD I found you. I’m preparing for thanksgiving a week in advance and i truly wonder if the pie crusts freeze well?? I’m cooking for a family of 20 plus friends and I’m not trying to be swamped on the holiday..
We were just at my in-laws' and the girl who helps around their property mentioned she makes a lot of pies. I told I hardly ever do because my crusts never turn out well except one that uses a TON of butter. She told me so quickly, "Oh, I just use two cups of flour, 1/2 c of oil, 1/4 c of milk, and a pinch of salt." I was shocked that the recipe was so simple and easy to remember, and I used it to make a blueberry cream cheese pie this weekend for my hubby for Father's Day. It was his mom's recipe, and his absolutely favorite dessert, but I have always avoided making it often because of the challenge of the crust. The pie itself is quite rich with the cream cheese layer without a super rich, buttery crust. It blessed his socks off to have his mother's pie! She passed away a little over a year ago. Anyway, I was happy with how it turned out, but thought the crust was a little bland. Using a teaspoon of salt as you suggested, rather than a "pinch" like she suggested, makes sense! I'll use the teaspoon next time, and I'm sure this will be THE recipe for pies for me! Thanks for sharing!!!
Thanks for the feedback and your story, Lea. I use a little sugar for sweet pies too, but not for savory dishes like chicken pot pie. Now you can make pies all the time!
@@BanDanaGramma Okay! Do you add the sugar right in, or sprinkled on the top crust such as on apple pie? How much of it goes in the crust? Thanks for helping a crust newbie! 😄

Hi Curtis! It's gotten lots of good reviews! Our family loves it. I hope you do too. Thanks for watching, and for your comment! ❤
I made your pie crust 4 times then decided to add another tablespoon of oil....it made it even easier and baked delicious like yours but even easier to handle & move ...Love to you & yours...Judy
Great! All recipes for pie crust may need to be adjusted for the brand of flour, the humidity, etc. Tweeking it a bit to suit your needs is the right thing to do!
Thank you for sharing. Looks nice and easy. Aria
Hi Ariainman, it is super easy! You're welcome!

Happy Christmas Lithuania Friends! I'm so glad I could help you celebrate! With love from BanDana Gramma
Hi! Thank you! I made chicken pie today and used your recipe! The best!!! I stopped making pie because it was so much work and mess, and because it used up too much butter turning it too expensive. I will be making more pies now! I loved how light & flaky it turned out! Quick too 💕
Yay! So glad you like this easy crust! Thank you so much for coming back and leaving a comment. Now that you know how good it is, please share the video with your friends, it really helps my channel, and your friends will THANK YOU!
@@BanDanaGramma I shared it on my Facebook! ❤
@@IGAIAKNITS Thank you so much!
hello beautiful and sweet momma, ty so much for sharing ur recipe, iwill difinitely try it....
You're welcome, enjoy! Thank you for visiting!
Love it! Will def be trying this. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Katie! Thank you for stopping by. You are so welcome! Enjoy making pies this Thanksgiving. My daughters and I make a bunch each year and they are delicious -- even the crust! If you love it, please share the video. It really helps my channel, and your friends will thank you.
Thanks! I am definitely trying this soon!
Hi Grandma looks to be a very popular recipe, I certainly like the eady recipe,.thank you so much. As I'm not a baker do I have to blind bake the crust before i place the filling in please.
Hi Shirley! Thanks so much for visiting! I rarely prebake or "blind bake" my crusts, but if you choose to do so, line with double foil (hanging over edges), add weights of choice, and bake at 375 F for 25-30 minutes. Then raise temp to 425, remove foil and weights, add desired filling and bake approximately 20 minutes longer until edges are desired shade of light brown.
@@BanDanaGramma Thank you so much for your reply. Wonderful recipe cannot wait to give it a go.
Perfect
Thank you! I will now follow your recipe, cheap and effective

You are very welcome!
Thanks for sharing this! I had never heard of an “Oil Crust”, but needed a crust for my quiche. I omitted the sugar and added thyme and black pepper. This was the most awesome quiche crust ever. It was very tasty and flaky, definitely perfect for savory applications. Thanks again for sharing!
Yay! I'm so glad you liked it. AND THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO LET ME KNOW! With Love From BanDana Gramma
Thank you for sharing this recipe, pie crust and dumplings are always a adventure for me, never know how they will turn out! Farmer MeeMaw sent me over, love your bandana's, used to wear them all the time and still have a few.
Thank you All things good! Looks like you've been perusing my channel pretty thoroughly. I'm so happy to have you here! I love Farmer MeeMaw too.
Hi of course I’m super GLAD I found you. I’m preparing for thanksgiving a week in advance and i truly wonder if the pie crusts freeze well?? I’m cooking for a family of 20 plus friends and I’m not trying to be swamped on the holiday..
Yes, you can definitely freeze this pie crust, just bake it first and protect the edges so they don't break off with handling.
Im gonna try this recipe today
Read tge tips, use fresh ingredients, and you will love it!

Hi, thank you so much for sharing this!! I can’t wait to try! Do I need to bake this before adding my filling or do I add everything and then bake? Sorry I’m new to homemade pie crust!!
hi Tina. I rarely prebake and they turn out just fine. Enjoy!
Just made an apple pie and yes, the crust was great and yes, much easier if you use a recipe X2 for a larger pie. Thanks!
Thank you Sally!
Thank you so much for this recipe! 💗
Question: Do I double the ingredients to get two crusts? Thank you, and God bless you all! ❤️
Yes! Top and bottom, or two separate. Enjoy!
@BanDanaGramma Thank you, and have a blessed day!
wow..
Great pie crust method, thanks! :) Just curious...when making pumpkin pie do you pre-bake the crust as in some recipes I've seen?
Some do, but I do not. I haven't had a problem with soggy crust on bottom. I think the oil makes a difference. Thanks for watching, and thanks for commenting!
I love your video
Thank you Shakeria. It seems to be very popular. Please share it with your friends now that pie baking season is coming up. They will thank you! Sending hugs with love from BanDana Gramma ❤
i'm going to try this :)
This is a GREAT RECIPE!!!! TYVM!!!
You're welcome, Liza. I've gotten a lot of good feedback about this one!
Love your blue pie plate. My Grandmother's crust uses crisco and vinager and has always been a family favorite. Even one of my uncles had her teach him when she went blind. I'll give yours a try next time I'm always ready to try something new.
My mother make the best pies! She always used oil. No milk though, water. Just a bit at a time till she was happy with it. I cannot use animal milk ,but Soy should work. I have left over stew. I think it's savory veggie pie time!!
Thank you. G.
Hi Gomez! Sounds great! Thanks for stopping by -- and for being in my livestream today!
