This is how I remember meat and potato pie being prepared! I'm from Yorkshire and it used to be a favourite meal with me when I was a kid. (I'm now almost 80). Thank you Paul.
I was looking for a beef and mushroom pie recipe and came across this video. I have no idea what was said. I was too busy looking at Mr. Hollywood. What a handsome gentleman!
I'll make this tonight, Nov 12 2023. I love the old big bowls you use very nicely. Your twirling you rolling on is like the fingers in a band who twirl their drumsticks. Love this channel and city bakes. I learn a lot and history which is the fun part.
Looks delicious simple to prepare I love the preparation and ingredients job well done you still have the touch after so many years once a chef always a chef no matter our age 🙂 thanks for sharing Paul 🐱
Wow What an exquisitely prepared and easy recipe Paul makes us see, another magnificent video with your guests and the final result of baking that delicious pie hmmm! Thank you! Greetings to you! 🤤😋✌️👏😍🤗
That looks delicious! In the US we call that a Pot Pie. They are more often made with chicken and mixed vegetables inside, though. Suet really does look like it makes a big difference. I wish it wasn't so difficult to get over here.
I made this pie exactly as shown yet my gravy was still as thin as water when ready to put into the pie. I had to thicken with cornflour. Any ideas on where I went wrong?
Henry VIII was long dead before the first potato was brought to Europe...so he never ate a single potato. Come on editors and fact checkers this is basic stuff.
I buy them from Amazon UK to avoid that. Buy yourself a kitchen scale, they are only about $20 or so. A british cup, though, is 250ml IIRC. But really, I prefer to use weights whenever possible, it’s more accurate. Consider that a cup of flour may be anywhere from 3.75 to 5.25 ounces.
@@nathanjustus6659 Thank you for your reply. I do have a scale that does those measurements. I will be trying PH's Bloomer recipe and will look up the oven temperature translation. I just don't want to invest in his books if it is not user friendly. But thank you ever so much.
Of course it is! If it can be a pie if it only has a pastry bottom - eg: Pumpkin or Key Lime, or Lemon meringue, or grasshopper etc - why not only a pastry top? And, what about Shepherd's pie or Cottage pie which has no pastry whatsover....? Depends where you're from! I'm from the north of England as is Paul. Many of our pies had both top and bottom crust, eg: pork pies or pies containing fruit, like apple. The way Paul made the pie is the way my mother made it, her dad and her grandmother made it and it was always called meat and potato pie. Fruit pies always had pastry on both top and bottom.
Paul seriously needs some cooking lessons, what a terrible pie, meat was not browned, no seasoning herbs or spices, no diced carrots and celery, it was not even a real pie, had no bottom, so bland, this pie should be called the most boring pie in the world, well done Paul, you failed yet again to cook anything other than bread. If you made this pie in a cooking show contest you would have come last LOL.

I've not seen that technique before... lining the edge of the pan / dish with a strip of dough, then putting your pastry topping on. Top tip. 👍
You are amazing , Paul ! it is always a pleasure to listen to your recipes! God bless you , King !.... King of the kitchen!
LOL yet another woman obsessed with Paul!

Put some butter in the freezer, then grate it when its frozen. Use as a suet substitute 😊

Does it show how many potatoes, beef and onions are required?! I can't find a list and don't want to guess!
me too... dang it
Espero algun día probar tan exquisitos platos, Dios te bendiga.
Am i missing something He uses Plain flour but his website calls for self-raising flour what the correct one Paul ?

Did you use a starchy potato like Maris piper? That breaks down and thickens the sauce.
🤤🤤🤤
My Swedish anscestry has given me heavy upper arms and I'm convinced that "bingo wings" are aerodynamically optimized for rolling dough....
💖🥧
Looks amazing Paul a will defently try this x
Looks delicious - does your guest get a bite?

I'm wanting your books, do your books come with American measurements and temperatures? I know I wouldn't spend the time translating each recipe.

The world doesn't revolve around the USA. People in American don't put measurements for others
@@EhsanMusic A book seller's market no one needs.
Hmmm, controversial... The old, old question. Is it really a pie with only a pastry lid 🤔
Hotpot i'd say.

Bonjour il y a tu un problème sur ton compte ou tu m as tu bloqué Lise Merci
Alright, what is a pud? I know what it means in America but I'm ignorant and I'm sure it doesn't mean that in "classy sounding" London 🤣
its not a pie there is no base
So what is it then
too much gravy for me inside the pie. but still looks nice.
Where's the celery, carrots, etc?
agree!!
@@harrybond007 Guys, its a meat and potato pie. Nothing more. Serve vegies with it if you want to.
